Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.

‘Tis a Black Lace Capelet

July 24th, 2009 @ 12:29 pm by Mrs. Perfume

I’ve been gone a while - we’re waiting for the pro shots to come in. I promise to post recaps soon (like you care, but I’m just saying). I’m so uninspired these days. But when I saw these images on one of my favorite blogs, Little Winter Bride (all images by LWB), oh myyyy, I couldn’t take my eyes off of this beautiful Italian wedding!

It made me (almost!) want a do-over. Oh the beautiful vintage-y, indie simplicity. I’m so inspired now!

We honeymooned in northern Italy - perhaps that’s why I’m so captivated by this bride and her Milanese affair. It makes me yearn for that la dolce vita; that making of sweet, sophisticated things out of simplicity. (Of course the Italians don’t have the exclusive rights to this sort of lifestyle - it’s just they seem to do it so well!)

Check it out:

No veil or long dress - just a lovely wrist corsage, a tea-length swing dress, cool head-piece, and an AMAZING black lace capelet. So beautiful!

I’m really liking the bunches of baby’s breath. Simple and elegant alone.

Good lawd, I love this black lace capelet. I think I’m going to see if my mom can make one for me. It would look great with any strapless evening/cocktail dress. Don’t you think?

(The ’capelet’ is actually a lace shawl the bride tucked it into her gown… I lovesss it.)

If you could get married in a foreign country, where would you wed?

The first photos is timeless! You don’t know if it’s from the 50s or today. Love it!

And Mrs. P, I for one am dying to see photos of your wedding!

I’m getting married in Italy (to an Italian) and I am terrified of wearing the wrong thing! I know what flies in the U.S., but I’m kind of clueless when it comes to Italian wedding fashion. This bride looks great. I need help!!

Ha! Thanks for caring, ladies. But am I the only one who loves the black capelet?

@Jenn R: Oh, an Italian wedding. You should read Little Winter Bride. Do you have your dress yet?

@Mrs. Canary: So true about it being timeless! And waiting for Mrs. P’s recaps!

Hmmm, if I were getting married in a foreign country, it would have to be somewhere in either France or Italy, no doubt!

She probably wore the capelet because in Italy they’re pretty strict about covering your shoulders if you’re having a church wedding. But oh, to cover them in such style….now that is a feat. Thanks for sharing these beautiful pics with us!

I would love to get married in Ireland, but I doubt my friends and relations would fly all the way out there for a wedding. Our wedding is going to have a lot of green in it, though, so a green capelet is in the works for me! Or a green bolero. I can’t decide.

i care too!! mrs. p, before i started posting on this board, i was your typical, oh so innocent lurker who used to stalk your posts religiously (i mean that in a good way——-no need to call in the fbi:-). i loved all of your ideas and am dying to see your recaps!! the small morsel you provided in an earlier post is no longer enough to hold me over. i cannot wait to see the rest!

i love this wedding you posted. i love italy! i spent 2 weeks there and am dying to go back! the corsage is so pretty. i am thinking of doing this for my bms and moms. italy would be my #1 international destination wedding. have any of you seen the pics from the wedding in ravello photographed by the image is found? to die for!!!

I love simple and chic weddings like this! Sometimes I wish I had bucked convention and just found a shorter dress and kept my ensembe more simple especially with a daytime wedding. Lovely!

Beautiful pics! And Mrs. Perfume, will you be posting a honeymoon recap? Mr. Bruschetta and I could probably benefit from your Italy experience, since we’re heading there right after the wedding!

@Mrs. Perfume: I do have a dress - it’s that J.Crew number that’s being advertised everywhere this fall - including on this page. (I bought it on sale last spring for $500 less than it costs now.) I was thinking that with a lace mantilla - very classic and conservative. And maybe some kind of wrap - it’s a December wedding. I like the wrap Little Winter Bride wore, but I don’t think I can morally stomach fur. Ideas anyone?? Seriously - I totally open to ideas.

OH, I’d get married in France (duh). We really, really tried to make that happen, but it was just too difficult.

Our very dear friends were married in a hill town overlooking Florence two years ago - it was the most incredible event I have ever attended. sigh. Traipsing around a 13th century castle, finding secret rooms, the pictures & furniture of the previous homeowners, the whole nine yards…

I absolutely love that bride’s dress and am swooning over the corsage! I wonder if she had that in lieu of a bouquet? I’m a fan of the capelet too, but I’m not sure if I would have picked black with the awesome dress; it keeps distracting me.

Looking forward to your recaps, Perfume! I loved your planning posts and I totally stole your OOT lunchbags idea and gave them to my guests. They were a hit!
