Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

I’ve seen some window display inspiration pictures from Anthropologie that I HAVE to show you all! They’re so cute and inspiring…

Now let’s get closer for just a little bit. This is what I call “textured paper heaven”.

Okay, let’s go back to where I wanted to take you: to this next picture!

See?! I’m loving that lamp! So I had to give it a try and find a way to do my own.

I drew a sketch of how you have to fold the paper. In order to make it stay in the shape of a number 3, put a tiny piece of double sided tape in the middle and another one at the end.

This is NOT how the finished lamp is going to look! This is 1/2 of the total cones the real lamp needs. So this is just half of my lamp. It will be a lot more dense and soft, not like this trial one:

I made this one with some printed-on-one-side-paper that I was saving for recycling.  I ran out of it — that’s why I didn’t have the actual amount to make the trial lamp, but I’m saving again.  I’ll have the paper soon and I’ll post the review of the process.

I know it doesn’t look very cute, but it’s just the start. :)

Are you considering any types of unique lighting for your reception?

i love anthropologie! you’re wedding is not until january and you have pulled tricks out of every bag imaginable! how do you do it?!? those lamps look awesome and i know your lamp is going to blow that inspiration lamp out of the water. i really like it.

i was thinking of putting paper lanterns (not very unique) above the dance floor since the room is one big space and the ceilings are 45′ ft tall. i wanted to somehow make the dance part more intimate. so either paper lanterns, or a big piece of creative lighting. maybe i can get the mr. to try the lamp you posted. we would need to make a super large one. hmmmm……

I would have looked at that and thought, “too complicated.” But you made it look easy!

Very cool Ms. Poodle! You are one talented gal! What light source are you using to keep the paper from getting too warm? Also…just a thought, but can you imagine this with different scraps of fabrics and interfacing to stiffen it for the tubular shape?! Or pieces of plastic milk/water jugs shaped into cones and tubes with crazy glue? Can you imagine the way they would look in dimmed lights with a blue lightbulb in the center? Like Stars! Ahh! You and Anthropologie have inspired me!

Have you thought about making a chicken wire sphere shape first, and then wiring on the paper? It would make it easier to get a fuller look, like the anthro version. Also, you would not have to worry so much about the bulb burning the paper.

Whoever designs the displays and installations at anthropology is my hero. They are always really lovely.

That’s a gorgeous lamp! What happens if it gets hot, though - doesn’t the paper burn?

@ladybuglove: I’m so glad you want to try that, I soo need to save more paper to finish that one ;)
@Kat: Your idea is so cool!! I tried that on a normal light. I hot glue the different layers so there was a lot of room so the bulb never touch the paper, and I attached a little wire on the top to attach the lamp
@Miss Star: hehe your funny!! I think you are crafty :)
@mrspaetz: trust me there’s a HUGE list of things I can’t do hehe

oh and I’m interested to know how you will be getting all of these projects to the US for our wedding? I’m also planning from out of the country and realize shipping is expensive and airlines have weight and size limits so I’ve nixed many of my DIY ideas. Do you know something I don’t?

Wow this is crazy awesome looking! How do you keep the paper from getting too hot and lighting on fire? I can just see myself making this and having it burst into flame…ahhh!

@slicey19: well most of the projects will not travel fully done, like the paper flowers, I’m folding until the step before you open them so I can carry them around, In the case of the lamps I’ll be just making trial here and then once I’m in California I’ll d the real thing :) I wish I could afford to have a plane all for myself :P

@KatieBug3017: your funny! but I don’t think that’s possible, the idea is to keep the paper away from the bulb, they are never supposed to touch.

@Miss Bruschetta: I’m just planning on it, still dont know if this will work :P

@Miss French Bulldog: I soooooo want BEEs on my wedding!!! :)
