In Serious Need of Hive Hair Help

July 26th, 2009 @ 1:00 am by Mrs. D'orsay

Ed. note: Miss D has her hair trial in the morning and would LOVE your opinion! If you’re up late tonight, it would be awesome if you could let her know your thoughts!

~~~
Zah! I was supposed to be looking for hair inspiration over the past few weeks to prepare for the trial (which is this morning!). Instead, I’ve gone on hair hunts a few times and have seriously overwhelmed myself again. I’m all over the map! Structural chignons, curly loose updos, loose chignons, buns, high, low - ack!
Here’s the deal, I have an oblong head (it’s true, think Alanis Morrisette) and I need an August ready (read: humidity happy), head shaking, boogie down, birdcage wearable updo. Uh… right. Here are the few photos I’ve found that have struck a chord with me.
The fabulous Cherry Pie:
A cute retro veiled updo
An adorable bun with bows:
All of these are from Project Wedding’s hair photos:
Please help me hive! What do I suggest for my trial?
The last 2 are so classic, but fun. I vote for one of those.
My vote is for #3, the one with the four photos and the brooch in the back.
I am kind of feeling the first one. It has structure up front and in the updo, but has the curls and loops to make it fun. I also really like the super loose one, but it also looks like it might not hold up to any serious boogie time. Good luck!
I like the second to last, with the brooch. It looks very elegant.
It really depends on exactly what kind of wedding you want to have, simple or not so? If you want a simple feeling wedding go for a classic and simple style, such as Miss Cherry Pie’s ‘do, or if you want a more formal feeling wedding go for the second to bottom. My personal opinion is that simple is better, but then I don’t like things being too fussy…
I love #5, it’s not all “perfect” looking so with dancing etc it’s still going to look fantastic….
I think they all look great! You can’t go wrong with any of them. I am partial to chignons though… :) Let us know what you decided to go with!
I love the 2nd to last, has a very ‘breakfast at Tiffany’s’ feel to it, and the one with the heart brooch. I really love the pinup feel to that one, with the finger curls in the back. I vote for that one with a birdcage veil.
I’m with Pengy, Snapdragon, and Noelle-a-Belle–the 2nd to last is so classic but fun! How far forward on your head does your birdcage need to sit? That might affect how high you want your bun/chignon, etc. to sit.
I love the first one (cherry Pie) and the last one for your needs. The second to last one is also really nice and different BUT I can forsee a humidity problem with those little under hairs at the back of your neck if your hair is at all curly. Good luck!
speak to your hair stylist, play around, and go with what looks best on you.
what works for someone else may not turn out as fab!
It looks like everything you like has a bit of tease and volume at the crown, side swept bangs and smooth sleek up do, between being a traditional chignon and something with a more artistic flair. If you’re planning to keep it up all day and test it out, make sure you let them know! Otherwise many stylists go lighter on the hairspray at trials. Oh and of course, if you already have your veil and hair pins/combs, bring them with! Also, if you’re not keeping your birdcage veil on the whole time, you may want to make sure that any comb damage to the ‘do is hidden! Hope all goes well later today! =)
I agree with Mary while there is a variety you seem to have a favorite theme going on. Take some pictures talk to your stylist. It probably won’t come out EXACTLY like one but put the little pieces together you like most & work with your veil. They are all beautiful and graceful looking. Good luck! Let us know!
I like the 6th picture the best–the one with the four pictures of the girl. Except I like a little more volume in an updo. It’s beautiful, especially with that clip!
I have always LOVED cherrypie’s updo. It was simple yet elegant, and looks like it could stand up to a bit of humidity!
I ended up trying a hybrid of the last photo and the 4 pics photo. I LOVED the second to last one, but it wouldn’t work with my veil. I took pics though, so you guys can all see! Thank you so much for your help, I was so lost!
