I love vegan red velvet cupcakes, pilates ,and mid-century furniture. Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. Project: Rehearsal Dinner!

July 27th, 2009 @ 8:32 am by Mrs. Sprinkle

Planning the rehearsal dinner has been so easy and fun. We are hosting the party in our own backyard (more on that soon), both to keep it casual and keep costs down. And we have a color scheme (I couldn’t help it, I had to use the red/aqua combo somewhere)! I have bought/found/borrowed almost everything we will need besides the foods and drinks. We aren’t sure about the dinner part yet, but dessert will be a make-your-own-vegan-sundae-bar, and I will personally make sure everyone eats one.

So far:

Project: Rehearsal Dinner! : wedding rehearsal 1 1
Tea lights (from Ikea via Freecycle), lava rocks (from Cost Plus)

Project: Rehearsal Dinner! : wedding rehearsal 2 2

napkins (from IKEA, to be Goccoed), vases and cups (gifts from a friend)

Project: Rehearsal Dinner! : wedding rehearsal 3 3

tablecloths, paper lanterns (save-on-crafts.com)

Project: Rehearsal Dinner! : wedding rehearsal 4 4

lanterns (from Target), to be transformed

Project: Rehearsal Dinner! : wedding rehearsal 5 5

party lights (a free donation from a friend!)

Project: Rehearsal Dinner! : wedding rehearsal 6 6

glass terrariums (from Cost Plus, to be donated to my preschool after the wedding for bug habitat building!)

I am wondering about hiring a photographer for a few hours at the rehearsal. Total unnecessary indulgence or a good idea? Maybe I will just load up on polaroid film on eBay, break out the actual film cameras, and take some photos myself… in between bites of sundae and re-lighting lanterns, of course.

Are you hosting any wedding related events at your home?

If you or a friend can do well with the camera, why not just do it your way. But if you still have some cash to spare then splurge.

Wow - I love all of the party supplies that you have! I can’t wait to see the pics from the rehearsal dinner! I would love to have a photographer at my rehearsal as well; I think that is a great idea! We are considering asking one of my mother’s friends…she has her own photog business…she isn’t as good as my main photog of course, but she does take great photos, and I would get some documentation of the event! I’d say it could be a nice little investment!

Oh wow I love the colors! I hadn’t thought about theming-out the RD. Might need to do that with ours, I’m dying to use some Green.

I love your RD color combo–red and aqua is such a fun, upbeat combination. How smart that you found so many great decor items!

Instead of paying for a photography, why don’t you splurge on a nice camera? Then you’ll get nice pictures AND have it for the honeymoon?

We had our engagement party at our own home. We made it an opportunity for everyone to get to meet each other.

You could enlist a camera savvy friend to take pics, or hit up your local community college in the art department. You may be able to get someone to do it for free in return for using the pics in their portfolio

I actually found someone on Weddingbee that is willing to do our brunch for free. There are often lots of listings for free photography in the classifieds. We actually had a photog that wanted to try out some new lighting techniques do our engagement photos for free and they were AMAZING!!!

totally get a photographer! it’s worth it to have a pictures taken on an event you worked hard on. I actually had mrs. avocado do my non-wedding events while she was doing it for free in the beginning stages of her photography business. This definitely helped out on additional costs, but still have photograhs take by someone not involved in the actually day. Look on craigslist for any beginning photographers!

I also was considering having a photographer at the rehearsal dinner. I don’t think its an unnecesary indulgence. It is still a wedding-related party which you will be spinning left and right for so I think it is perfectly acceptable to want to have some pictures of another event you may not remember much of.

I love your finds, gifts, freebies - especially the vases!

Sort of unrelated, your pictures are amazing. What kind of camera do you use? Could one of your friends snap pictures with said camera? Or is that you have a really good eye?

@ejs4y8: i do have a camera that i love, i just don’t know anyone other than myself who knows how to use it! might just hand it over to a friend and hope for the best though :) good suggestion!

@St. Patrick: that is awesome! my mom still hasn’t met mr. sprinkle’s parents, so i wish we could have done this as well!

@Mrs. Perfume: i use a nikon d40 and my pictures taking skills have improved immensely since i got it for my birthday a few months ago!

I love the colors you’re using! My MOH is using red and light blue for her wedding, but I may have to steal it for a shower or my rehearsal dinner!

I can’t wait to see these elements come together! I agree with the others… if you can find a friend to be the camera person or maybe hire a photography student. Either way, I think you should definitely have SOMEONE there in charge of pictures.

I regretted now hiring a photographer for our rehearsal until I got there and found out that my hubs’ uncle is a decent photographer with a digital SLR so we ended up with at least a few fun quality photos that I can touch up!
