About Mrs. Mascara

An Unnecessary Project

July 28th, 2009 @ 11:47 am by Mrs. Mascara

With a little more than a month left to go, you would think I would be taking projects off of my list at this point. Instead, I added one on. Uninspired when it came to designing our programs and sick of teal taffeta table runners being the only sewing I’ve done in months, I decided to make a simple garter to wear on the wedding day.

An Unnecessary Project : wedding accessories diy Garter

It’s made of ivory silk dupioni, which is one of my most favorite fabrics ever. We won’t be doing the garter & bouquet toss since those traditions have never been our cup of tea at other weddings we’ve been to, so I really do not need a garter at all. But who can resist a quick and easy sewing project (with beautiful silk dupioni) when in need of some instant gratification?

I have no doubt that I’ll need to prioritize within the next few weeks in order to get the important elements on my list finished before the wedding, but for now, I’m still hoping we can finish most of the projects that we’ve been hoping to bring to the big day. And admiring my completely unnecessary, yet still gratifying ruffly little garter!

If you want to make a simple garter, check out this tutorial from the purl bee!

Did anyone else add a last minute project onto their list? What was it?

Very pretty & very luxe! You could glue a little ribbon and rosette (from the craft store) on for your something blue. I decided to make my own, then I ran out of time, then I bought a cheap one, WHICH DIDN’T FIT! Then…I ordered a monstrosity from ebay–um yikes, and finally I bought a plain white one from Frederick’s for about $5 & embellished it a bit. Looks great! We didn’t do the whole garter thing either, but I have to say I love how pretty and simple yours is!

Definitely did NOT add any more projects to our list :) No more space in the suitcase!

Although, for our upcoming Ohio reception, I am doing ridiculous DIY. I don’t know why, either!

very sweet and simple. I kept my original garter and love having it to keep. I think you will too even if you forego the traditional toss!

It’s beautiful! At least you’ll know it’s there. And Mr. Mascara will probably appreciate it as well. ;)
