About Mrs. Meatball

Every once in a while (or, if you’re like me lately, every few days) a time comes in a person’s life when splurging is simply the requirement of the day. Your day’s splurge might be thanks to the blues, a celebration, hormones, boredom, entertaining, or any number of worthy (or unworthy) reasons…. but if you’re going to do it, you wanna do it up RIGHT.

Periodically, I happen upon a splurge so good that I want to share it here, but then I think to myself: ;Self, this is not a healthy recipe! What will all the readers who look to you as a good example of fitness and diet savvy think?; But after a few recent splurges too-good-to-withhold, I have decided that from time to time, I’ll share a favorite naughty recipe with y’all - because you deserve it! I mean, why should you suffer because of my guilt? It’s just too delicious to be nutritious!

To kick it off - my newest obsession….

MONKEY BREAD

This melty, gooey, bready goodness is super easy to make and packs a major punch on a breakfast buffet or dessert platter. But beware, this stuff is mad addictive, and you should probably cover your lap with a napkin - both because this stuff is so ooooeygooey and drippydroppy, and to also hide the oft-embarrassing foodboner you’re sure to pop when enjoying it!

Ingredients:

  • 4 cans refrigerated biscuits (I prefer the flakey kind)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

Pre-heat oven to 350. Pull your biscuits apart and rip into smaller pieces (roughly 4 per biscuit). Try not to eat too much of the raw biscuit dough, like I always do! Mix your biscuit bits with the cinnamon and white sugar and pack into a buttered bundt pan. In the meantime, heat the brown sugar and butter together until melted, and pour over the top of the biscuit mix in the pan. Bake for about 45 minutes, let cool, and invert onto plate. Enjoy!

This shiz is too yummy to not try! You can easily make smaller batches, using a loaf pan and only 1 can of biscuits and a shorter cook time. Just eyeball the cinnamon, sugar, and butter amounts. It’s not a perfect science, if you like it more or less sweet/gooey, do it up to your tastes!

So, there you have it, your first taste of temptation. It’s eeeeevil, like fru-its of the dev-il! But, oh so mouthwateringly irresistible!

What’s your favorite food splurge?

Oh yum! I love monkey bread! Chocolate or ice cream is usually my weakness. :-)

Ugh, I LOVE monkey bread. Let it get a little stale and it makes the most amazing french toast. Though I’ve never ever been ever to keep a loaf around for more than an hour or two…

Rather, able, to keep a loaf around. I had monkey bread-induced aphasia.

We make this every Christmas — it’s SO good. My cousin calls it crack bread, b/c it’s completely addictive.

Oh man, do I love monkey bread. It is a Christmas tradition in FI’s family and I actually received a monkey bread pan as a shower gift! I may break the “rules” and make it sometime other than Christmas!

It’s interesting to see how many people have this as a Christmas treat!

This is our Thanksgiving and Christmas treat at home! We put FROSTING on ours and it’s the most amazing thing ever. I know I can make it whenever I want, but somehow it doesn’t seem right unless it’s Christmas or Thanksgiving.

Garlic parmesan monkey bread is also amaaaazing! Same concept, take prepacked biscuits, but use garlic powder, butter, and parmesan instead of cinnamon and sugar.

I love monkeybread so much… our housemaster in college used to make it for studybreaks and people would literally be diving over the table with their toothpicks to get to it. I was in Williams-Sonoma (swoon) the other day and they even had a monkey bread kit!

Oh man, my future mother-in-law introduced me to the insane goodness (badness?) of monkey bread. She throws pecans into the syrup-y part and they turn into crunchy carmelized pecans. AMAZING. And this from a girl who HATES pecans. But for some reason they are totally awesome with that sugar coating…^_^

My grandmother made this for us when we were growing up, except she always called it “Monkey BALLS”. That was a fine name until I became a teenager and suddenly placing “balls” in my mouth just didn’t sound appetizing. lol.

I do love it though!

Just have to agree with you wholeheartedly (and stomach-ly!) on how delicious this stuff is! Growing up, my dad would occasionally make this for breakfast. He called it “special breakfast”. I may have to whip up a batch this week…..or….you know, today……..

Ohhh yes monkey bread is beyond good. My mom and I used to make it with those frozen rolls…you had to prepare it the night before to let them defrost/rise, but they turned out sooo yummy! I remember dipping the balls in butter, then rolling in cinnamon sugar, and smelling the goodness!

Have you ever made this as a savory monkey bread? If you’re craving something that isnt’ sweet, you can do it with things like parmesan cheese, garlic salt, italian seasoning…etc etc…there are a lot of other options!!!

Oh man, I love me some monkey bread.
And I am happy to hear that I am not the only one who eats raw biscuit dough. My husband thinks it’s disgusting, but I do it anyway. Raw cookie dough, raw pancake batter… hehehe. :)
