I could have just bought them a panini press. But I had to go and design invites instead.
I went a little nutzos when I heard that Gocco supplies were dwindling, and gobbled up enough flashbulbs to last me into the next century. But of course, this means I should actually DO Gocco projects. So when my very good friend Robin asked me to make her wedding invitations, I was more than happy to do so! I just forgot how time consuming the printing process is… but how rewarding it is to create something from scratch. She only wanted a 1 color print, in copper (which is a discontinued color, but luckily, I snatched up a few tubes) so I figured it’d be easy peasy. It was actually really fun, and Robin didn’t have many preferences on anything, other than the fact that we incorporate a small “logo” of sorts: birds looking at a star. This is adorable because her name is Robin, and her husband’s last name is the name of a constellation. Robins looking at a star… how symbolic!

The bird image and the branch are purchased and adapted from these two images, available on iStockphoto.com:
The font for the invitation is Burgues Script.

Because my new love is my Cricut, I had to make sure to get some cuts in. Robin bought this rubber stamp from PaperSource, and we used the shape to make cuts on the Cricut.

I used the cuts for the RSVP return:

The supplemental font is called Plantagenet Cherokee. I think it comes free with Microsoft computers. I used the same imprint on the back of the outer envelopes:

I lined the envelopes with really pretty paper from PaperSource… the copper flowers tie it all together! It’s called Motivo Copper Flowers… find it here.
Robin really loved Miss Cowboy Boot’s RSVP wording, so it may look familiar (right down to the same RSVP date)! I liked that all the pieces are in portrait, rather than a mix of portrait and landscape. I think it gives it a nice, cohesive look. The sizing is as follows:
Invite: A9
Accommodations and Events cards: A6
RSVP and RSVP envelope: 4 Bar
I modified all the files to remove critical information, and made them available for download. If you don’t own Burgues Script, the text will probably look funny (because I used a lot of glyphs to make the “swishies” [clearly, a technical term]). But at least if you’re looking for a jumping off point for some simply set up invites, you can have at it!
All created in Adobe Illustrator CS3
All in all… I love them! Robin bought all the paper and supplies, so all I had to do was design and print them, so it saved me a cool $150 or so on buying her a gift. Man, I am a cheapskate.
Do you find yourself helping out on your friends’ wedding projects? I know I don’t want all my fun DIY equipment to go to waste, so it’s nice to have some projects to work on after the wedding is all over!
