About Mrs. Mary Jane

Ring-A-Ding-Ding!

July 29th, 2009 @ 11:34 am by Mrs. Mary Jane

Last Wednesday, I went to visit Mr. Mary Jane’s custom-made ring!

When we finalized the design and initiated the process back in June, the jeweler told us it’d be done around the first of August. We didn’t make any payment then; we’re repeat customers, so I guess they figured we’re good on our word. I was simply told I could come in at any time and pay for the ring, and also give them the engravings I want on it.

I decided to have our wedding date engraved on it, so I dropped off the wedding date and the payment with the Jeweler on Wednesday. (I also decided to get something else engraved on Mr. MJ’s ring… but you’ll have to wait to hear about that because it’s a surprise for him!) But now: we OWNS US A RING! (Though the jeweler is still working on it; hopefully we’ll have it soon.)

But why did I wait so long to pay? I’d had the money for over a week already, figuratively burning a hole in my pocket. Well, Mr. Mary Jane and I left for a trip on Thursday (we’ve been on vacay all this time and are coming home today, actually!), to visit my parents and grandparents. I haven’t seen them since Christmas time, so none of them have seen my ring (except in pictures). Can you blame me for wanting it to be extra-clean and shiny before I showed my mom?

For some reason, I was too embarrassed to just go in to the store and ask for a cleaning. But since I just happened to be there paying for Mr. Mary Jane’s ring, and we just happened to be going on the trip the next day, why not get it cleaned too? :D

Is there anything shinier than a freshly cleaned engagement ring? Are you ever embarrassed to ask to have yours cleaned?

I don’t have my e-ring yet, but I hated asking to having my promise ring cleaned. I always had to get the mister to do it for me, so don’t feel bad!

Yes! I try to do it at home but it’s just not the same.

The only time I’ve had it professionally cleaned since FI proposed in mid-June was when we went in to look at bands and stuff about three weeks ago. I’m addicted. Sadly it’s a good 30 minute drive into Denver (pain) and I won’t get up there enough. Which reminds me, I need to clean it before I go on the trip this weekend!!

Nope! the Mister paid a lot o’$$$ for it and part of that was the service of free cleanings for life. I get my diamond jewelry (ring and tennis bracelet) cleaned every six months to make sure that I keep the diamond warranties in check. If something were to happen to the diamonds and they hadn’t been in for their routine cleanings and checks, then the warranty is voided.

You can buy some gentle home jewelry cleaner and use a soft toothbrush on the stones in you want to clean it yourself.

My family owns a jewelry store and we never mind people coming in to have their jewelry cleaned. It gives the customer a chance to look around the store!
I just hope no one here is a ring licker (women that put their finger in their mouth to get the ring off and then hand it over to the salesperson). Its gross!

the jewelry store in DC where my fiance got my ring is amazing. it is just a few blocks from my office and sometimes when i’m out to lunch I’ll pop in and get it cleaned, and they always are so nice about it. I think I’ll probably stop in next week before i go home for a family reunion the next weekend.

No way, anytime I’m in the mall I always swing by to have my ring cleaned. They really don’t mind and it gives them a chance to inspect it too. I have to get mine done every 6 months anyway so I figure a couple times in between definitely does not hurt. I’m going to take mine at the end of Sept for the inspection to make sure its in tip top shape for the wedding, I’m hoping that it won’t have anything wrong with it!

I get my ring inspected every 6 months per the insurance policy on it, and they always clean it when I’m there. The platinum part is almost always shiny, but I’m a bit of a grungy girl, and it’s not uncommon for some bike grease or cheesecurls to find its way around the diamond. I’m planning on taking mine on Wednesday before the wedding to get the setting checked and have it cleaned :)

I’m always embarrassed to have mine cleaned because I do it so seldomly, it always looks pretty sad :( I’m thinking its time to invest in a home cleaning machine to keep her sparkly!

I do it at home every couple of months :) I am NEVER by our jeweler, but if I was - I’d definitely stop in and ask to have it cleaned. So sparkly!

At first I did feel embarrassed, but now every time we go into Tiffany’s (okay…or walk by one) we go in and have it cleaned!

Not at all embarassed - I actually got it cleaned for the first time less than a month after I got it! My excuse was that my FI had been wearing it and touching it and showing people for over a month before he proposed.. it was so much shinier after that first time! Now I go whenever I’m in Knoxville, which is where he bought the ring and where neither of us live, so it isn’t as frequently.

I’ve never had my ring cleaned and I wouldn’t know where to go :( Mr Frenchie bought my ring online (James Allen) and we’re buying my wedding band online (Etsy) and his also online (Blue Nile). I guess I could take it to the jeweler who re-sized it for me… how long does that normally take?

I’m never near the place where I bought my ring, so I’m always embarrassed to ask anywhere else to clean my ring. I need to get over it already, though, because I can’t figure out a good method for cleaning it at home.

My mom taught me a fun trick. Just mosy into any old jewelry store “just to look” and then point out how pretty certain pieces are with your left hand. I’ve never had to ask to have it cleaned, they always offer!

Umm…. I’m addicted to having my ring cleaned. More than anything, I have the vague worry I could clean it TOO much! HA HA! It’s just so gorgeous - and since I seriously (STILL!) spend at least half my time looking at my left hand anyway, I love it to GLEAM! :)
