About Mrs. Stiletto

The Perfect Trio

July 29th, 2009 @ 2:43 pm by Mrs. Stiletto

I shared a while back the story of where Mr. S bought my engagement ring, and the style of wedding band I wanted. Simple. A few diamonds evenly spaced around the band.

Well, a couple of weeks ago Mr. S and I took a trip back to Chicago’s jewelers’ row to seek out our weddings bands. I brought along pictures of what exactly I thought I wanted and we tried on ring after ring. When I finally tried on the ring that I’d thought I had to have, it just didn’t do anything for me as a wedding band (as a ring on the other hand? Perfect, sign me up! But not with my e-ring).

I ended up finding an AMAZINGLY sparkly ring with prong-set round cut diamonds. Swoon. But it would have put us at the top of our ring budget (we’d been looking to spend $1,200 max for both bands). Hmm. I put on my budget hat and tried on another happily sparkly band with round cut channel set diamonds over the top half of the band that was SO freaking under budget, there wasn’t a question which ring I’d choose. I love me a bargain.

Mr. S wavered between a brushed white gold band and a shiny tungsten band… he happened to fall in love with the tungsten which was also very budget-friendly… woo hoo!

Here’s some shots of the rings (please disregard the horrendous lack of focus… my camera was dying)…

Mmm…sparkly….

…I secretly love wearin’ these together around the house, shhh….

The Perfect Trio : wedding rings Ringsh
We picked up our rings last week, all sized and ready to go, and while there they spruced up my e-ring… I’ll be perfectly honest - bling looks a whole lot bigger when it’s all shiny and clean! My e-ring has never looked better.

I’m so pleased that we both got rings we love but only spent $675 of our $1,200 budget. I definitely don’t think you have to empty your wallet to find something special. AND with the leftover money that we’d allocated for our rings, we can go ahead and pay off one of our vendors now rather than in September (I’m so excited to have one less payment leading up to the wedding!).

Did you stay within or bust the budget when you picked our your wedding bands?

So pretty! I think both of ours were pretty much within the budget we’d set for them. I’m getting nervous, though, still waiting for mine to come in with about a month to go!

Very elegant! (I wore mine around the house before the wedding, too - until Mr. P got wind of it and hid it from me!)

It took a lot of looking, but yes, we did come in at budget! I found my wedding band at an estate wholesaler’s for a quarter of retail price and my FI is buying the floor sample at last year’s metal prices and having it sized. Metal has gone up so much recently!

My fiance and I were JUST talking about this, and we wanted to keep the cost under $1,000. Do you have any specific recommendations in jewelers’ row (we live in Chicago too)?

congrats! They are lovely rings. We ended up spending almost the same amount on our rings. The mister when with a tungsten while I went with a half eternity milgrained band. I second how big the ring looks when clean. I’m getting mine redipped and cleaned two weeks before the wedding.

Oh yay that’s awesome! We came in at 2K under budget for our bands! It’s a good feeling to put that money elsewhere. Realistically, I don’t think we knew the prices of bands in general before we set our “budget” though so we were pleasantly surprised =]

@Mrs. Perfume: I get yelled at a lot for that…it’s just so freakin’ tempting!

@aabride: I’ll look tonight to find the name of the place we went to, it’s also where my e-ring came from. They’re super helpful.

@sarsk624: My band was quite fugly, so getting it redipped was AMAZING!

@couturebowl: I konw, it’s one of those weirdly tempting things…spend a lot for more bling, or stay in budget…but I’m sure whatever you end up with will be lovely!

Just picked ours up at lunch and I may have worn it for a few hours at work and secretly took pictures with my phone under my desk and emailed them to my friends.
Haha….2 1/2 more weeks until it’s legit!!

OMG! We have almost EXACTLY the same e-ring and wedding band! I just sent mine off a few weeks back to be soldered together and so I won’t wear them until the wedding (which is K.I.L.L.I.N.G me) because Mr. B can’t wear his either. *promises promises!* Anyway, I was chuckling to myself the entire way thru because you were describing me! I’m ADDICTED to getting my ring cleaned everytime I’m anywhere even close to the store! Beautiful! We can’t wait the next 30 days! HOORAY!
