Bye Bye Birdies *Sniff*

July 30th, 2009 @ 3:42 pm by Mrs. French Bulldog

Mama Frenchie received an email from My Wedding Favors on Tuesday saying that our adorable birdie favors were on backorder and wouldn’t be available until the Monday before the wedding.

I immediately called and asked what that meant. Did that mean the birds would ship on that Monday?

Because, then we would get them by Tuesday, which could work. Or, did that mean they would process my order again on that Monday? Because then I most definitely wouldn’t get them before Thursday, when I would no longer be in Orange County. Although, Michelle (with My Wedding Favors) was very helpful, understood my concern and apologized that it took them so long to notify me about the backorder. (I should have been notified 3 days after my order was placed, not 11, which is what happened), I still wasn’t confident that the order would come in time, so I canceled.

Mama Frenchie immediately sniffed around for other options. We really liked the photo/memo clip place card doubling as a favor idea. It was really hard to find plain memo clips.

Globes, Apples, Flip-Flops, Beachy, Western

Some of those would be really cute for someone else’s wedding, just not mine.

Luckily, Mama Frenchie found these on Displays2Go.

Bye Bye Birdies *Sniff* : wedding favors Clips

Aqua Base w/ Alligator Clip, Clear Base w/ Bird Clip, Aqua Base w/ Heart Clip

You may be thinking, “Bird clip! Miss Frenchie you should go with the bird clip!” Yeah, about that - I’m not a huge fan of the gold metal. I know I’m weird, it has a bird, it’s perfect… ish. We’re doing birdie signs on all the tables, coming out of the centerpieces, and the shape of the those birdies don’t match the bird clips. (Mama Frenchie and I are working on that this weekend so I promise to blog about it soon.) Mama Frenchie really wanted them to have a color and I wanted them to be more than just a cube and a clip, so we ended up ordering the Aqua Base with Heart Clip.

Now for the best part - Each birdie from My Wedding Favors was about $3.45/bird. It was pricey, but we liked them so much we went with it. The new favors are costing us $0.71/clip! 71 CENTS per clip!

Did a disappointment or unavailable product for your wedding end up saving you money?

That’s awful that it took so long to get any indication that you wouldn’t have had your favors.

I ended up saving money because I was disappointed with the bridal stores in my area. I decided to buy a dress online, but wanted to be professionally measured. When I went to a store to be measured, I saw a beautiful bridesmaids dress that could double as a wedding gown. I saved about $400 once the alterations were complete.

I can’t believe you weren’t notified of the backorder for 11 days after you placed it! But I’m glad you were able to find a cute substitute and save money!
There were many times I lusted after something that was out-of-stock or too expensive, and I would be so bummed…until I would find something even better in the long run! Then I would be ever-so-thankful that I didn’t go with an earlier purchase! That’s the fine line you walk with wedding purchases - if you wait too long, things sell out, but if you wait a little longer, something better comes along! That’s why when I made a decision, I’d “try” to stop shopping elsewhere and be happy with what I chose!

Yikes! I think something like that happening so close to my wedding might make me turn into a bridezilla. I’m glad everything worked out in the end.

Also thanks for the website. I’ve been trying to find stands for my tables and that site has some things that would work and are not too expensive!

Ooops! I forgot to add that I was a little nervous with the site, since I had never heard of it before, so I checked their status with the BBB in RI (where they are based) and they had an “A” rating :) With 2 complaints filed in the last 36 mos, both of which had been resolved. Hopefully this means we’ll get them in 3 days like the site said :)

I’m glad you saved so much money, even though those birdie clips are just adorable! The ones you picked are still cute.

Miss Frenchie Im sorry about the birdies and that they took so long telling you about it. But I love the heart cubes…very cute! Does the aqua of the cube go with your colors? How cute would those western clips be for Miss Cowboy boot!! My MOH just text me a pic the other day of butterfly clips for our table numbers…I LOVE BUTTERFLIES! I love that these were cheaper for you too!

@D.Marie: Yep, the aqua matches our colors… at least the picture does, but I’m not too pick as long as it goes :)
I was thinking the same thing for Miss Cowboy Boot!

You handle disappointment well. People appreciate the little details, but most never notice that things are just the way you might have planned. I am feeling deja vu, but cannot remember what went wrong with any of our wedding orders. The birdie clips were adorable, but a heart translates well for a wedding. I am glad they fit w/ your color scheme & are A LOT cheaper! We actually registered for memo clips like those @ C&B to organize all of the post-its I leave around the house (and a few for my classroom!) I heart the apples-I may get them! And the Western ones would be good for Miss Cowboy Boot!

@eileen marie: I almost got those C&B Clips for the wedding, but the Displays2go ones were cheaper and had the heart :)
The apple clips are from a company called Made in China

Darn those birdies. Planning a bridal shower or baby shower for anyone? If I were you, I’d find some excuse in the future to use those birds! And keep a couple spares :)

The heart is a great find and thanks for bringing my attention to this company. When you mentioned they are located in RI, I was curious (my wedding is in RI) to see what they had and I just found great tall table number holders for $2.50 each!

Glad you found a substitute clip — I think that aqua will look amazing in person, since it already looks great in the picture!

I was going to say Ikea and Crate and Barrel have memo clips. This was one idea I really wanted to do. I even wanted to get two colors so you could tell what meal people were eating. Anyway, love your choice.
