Mrs. Sprinkle's Picture
Mrs. Sprinkle, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 26, Preschool Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Television Production/Writer Engagement Date: December 24, 2008 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: The Marvimon House About Me: I'm a Bay Area native trying to create a life for myself (and my fiance, and our three cats!) in the vast city of Los Angeles. I love vegan red velvet cupcakes, pilates ,and mid-century furniture. Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. We are planning a vegan, green-as-possible, DIY wedding, and I couldn't be more excited to share all of the details!
About Mrs. Sprinkle

A few short months ago I was really, really struggling to make all the elements of this wedding come together. I had so many ideas, so much inspiration, but none of it fit. It just seemed like a really bad combination of really good ideas. Mr. Sprinkle and I talked it over many times, and pinpointed what we wanted our wedding to feel like to us, to our family, to our friends.

We want it to feel like home. Classy, fancy (yet casual, not stuffy) home! We want it to be the wedding we would have at our own home, if our own home could hold one hundred people (because if our home could hold 100 people, it would be here!). And now that we have that idea in mind with every decision we make, it does feel like everything was meant to be. It is all working out. We may not have a real “wedding theme” but take the idea of home, throw in some grey and mustard, a touch of vintage rock, and a lot of love and happiness (I never said I wasn’t cheesy), and you have our wedding theme!

That said, it is still hard when I see a great wedding like this. Hands down the best bouquet I have ever seen. Grey and yellow? Wonderful. Palm Springs pool party?! So fun. Even though I love what we are brewing, I still have pangs of wedding lust.

During those “lost months” I did some practice. We also started a big project: hand-making over one hundred mini chalkboard menus. We actually had to purchase a saw for this project! Neat.

We won’t be using these colors, I just happen to only own orange napkins, and I found super cheap brown fabric at IKEA. Our caterer has tablecloths and napkins available, but they are purple and brown striped, which means we are going to be renting these items.

Project: Tablescape Trial Run! : wedding decor reception theme Dsc 00601

Project: Tablescape Trial Run! : wedding decor reception theme Dsc 007 (tofu soup will not appear on our actual menu, that’s my failing creativity!)

So far, I think it looks too “glassy.” I need more texture in there. I have to remind myself that this is only a mock-up using what accessories I had on hand, before I had a “wedding vision” in mind. Our real napkins will be brown, our tablecloths grey, and those little recycled jam jars? They will be stuffed with rosemary (my absolute favorite herb!) instead of being loosely filled. :)

I do love the way the chalkboards look (they will eventually be printed with the menu, as soon as we have a final menu). I know that an entire chalkboard menu for each guest is total overkill, but I have great plans for them after the wedding, and we will be leaving chalk on the tables in case anyone feels like getting creative during dinner.

Our caterer uses stemless wine glasses and ball jars as water/tea glasses, so that will change the look a bit as well. There will also be several 7″ hurricane vases with candles. And full jars of skinny breadsticks. And pitchers of sangria. And bowls of olives. And nuts. And infused olive oil. What started off looking empty is beginning to sound very full.

Does your wedding have a theme? Tell me about it! I love hearing about creative wedding themes.

That sounds great–your ideas are coming together!

are you nervous about your guests taking those chalkboards home with them though? I think my guests would’ve!

What about some different colored vases–milk white or blue or green?

Our wedding has two themes: my parents 34th anniversary and where we met (DC). My parents had a “bi-centennial” wedding in 1976, same year my fiance was born. We are doing navy like my parents, but with yellow as the accent color instead of red (didn’t want to be too patriotic). The guys have gold and navy palmetto state bowties for my fiance and the girls are wearing navy dresses with gold shoes. The food is themed for our hometowns and our first date (ceviche, oysters = raw bar, hometowns=southern soul food buffet and barbecue). Our table names are named after DC traffic circles to represent unity. Our guests will have our home state flags, DC flag and current state flag as our send off and for the escort cards. The children will wear pinafore sundresses and rompers with their monogram.

I am starting to love the mustard/gray look. I love the fancy, yet homey feel of your wedding. We jumped on the bandwagon-a semi-formal b&w (w/ touches of red) damask wedding. It was the setting (the Chgo. Botanic Garden) that really stood out though. That way, we didn’t have to go crazy w/ flowers-just giant white potted Phalaenopsis orchids in red-painted pots for guests to take. (Thank you Home Depot!) Our flower budget was either the cheapest ever or the most expensive, if you count the rental fee of the Garden!

Ooh, I like the idea of the guests getting creative with the chalkboards. That would be really fun and could result in some really funny/cute artwork!

Ohhh, I love your colors and the chalk board idea!!! We’ve just begun the wedding planning but our themes are going to be fall country in New England. Our colors will be a rusty orange and chocolate brown mixed with a farm setting and the new england fall foliage..I’m just crossing my fingers for good weather.

I think I prefer weddings that aren’t too “theme-y.” It took my crazy visions a lot of time to come together as well. Your vegan, vintage rock, homey wedding will be amazing!
