The wedding planning is winding down, though the wedding crafting feels like it will never end. We just finished the programs and finalized centerpieces, but we still have a lot of cutting, pasting and assembling to do. I just finished the signs for the wedding party’s seats during the ceremony, and we met with our awesome photographer over the weekend so he could explore the chapel and the rest of the school.
FMIL Joey is arriving 9 days early to help with the wedding and I can’t wait to have her here. She’s volunteered to do any last minute crafting and I’m definitely taking advantage of that. She’s going to make the ring bearer’s tie and sew the little bags for our Arrhae tradition. I might need her to sew one more table runner for the breakfast at the Chapel.
Speaking of the breakfast, we finally nailed down the menu and our AMAZING baking friendor Mary has been testing away in her kitchen.
Here’s the final menu:
Our wedding colors! I sort of hinted at this here and there, but thought it was time for a color post. There are so many inspiration boards out there that choosing colors can become quite a task (remember my swatch pile?!). One excellent source is Snippet & Ink. This was the first board that caught my eye from S&I.
(All pictures from Snippet & Ink unless otherwise noted)

I love the neutrals of it all, with hints of gold and grey. If our venue was at all white, or had the white swags like the upper right image, this might have worked, because I feel like the lightness of it all is really the main appeal. Since our venue is 100% wood from top to bottom, it might be hard to pull of this light airy feeling, and a punch of color would be nice to dress my girls in.
Then, I came across this similar board that had a bit more color with softer golds, pinks and browns.

We are currently hosting a Gallery contest where we are giving away 10 $40 coupon codes for My Publisher photo books. To enter the contest all you have to do upload your wedding pictures on the gallery and if we feature your picture on the blog, you will receive a photo book! Remember, your images must be under 1MB in size, or they won’t load.
After we all got our makeup done, we headed straight to our venue, The Venetian.
Mr. Martini and I decided to have our rehearsal on the day of the wedding because of scheduling conflicts with our parents and the fact that two of our groomsmen were from out of state. So, we felt this would be the most convenient for everyone. When I got there with my BMs, Mr. Martini ran up to me, gave me a quick kiss, and calmly told me that there was a minor issue with one of the groomsmen. Apparently, he was nowhere to be found! Everyone left countless messages on his cell phone, and because he was probably one of the most responsible out of the six groomsmen, they were convinced that he was dead in a gutter somewhere and were very worried for him.
Anyone familiar with How I Met Your Mother might remember the Miracles episode at the end of season three. Ladies and gentleman, the following story is a true miracle.
Miracle number 1: Mr. M. called one of his friends who lived nearby to ask him to stop by groomsman P’s apartment to check up on him. He managed to get in touch with a group of friends that were carpooling and had already left for the wedding. But, just a little while before Mr. Martini called them, one of them realized that he forgot his shoes and the car was already turned around and heading back home. What are the chances of that?

I’m officially in love with CLAY! I just started to play with clay, and even though I haven’t had much time to practice, I wanted to share with the hive what I’ve done so far:

A little sprinkle is certainly welcome in the heat of July! Say hello to our newest bee, Miss Sprinkle!

Miss Sprinkle, Los Angeles
Age & Occupation: 26, Preschool Teacher
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 30, Television Production/Writer
Engagement Date: December 24, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: The Marvimon House
About Me: I’m a Bay Area native trying to create a life for myself (and my fiance, and our three cats!) in the vast city of Los Angeles. I love vegan red velvet cupcakes, pilates ,and mid-century furniture. Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. We are planning a vegan, green-as-possible, DIY wedding, and I couldn’t be more excited to share all of the details!

Alright, hive, the Monday before our wedding was a holiday and a big old frenzy at the Peep household. And I haven’t had a chance to post about any of it.
First up, the favors.
Something that I’ve never shared with you was that my old roommate works for an amazing organic chocolate company in San Francisco. This means we got the most perfect chocolate favors. On top of that, we did a lovely exchange of wine for chocolate… so basically, we got the perfect organic chocolate flavors for free!!
Just to get your mouth watering, everyone got a Fleur de sel:
I bought the fabric for my new sash over the weekend! If you recall, my dress came with a piece of black satiny ribbon attached to it:

And that’s just not fitting with anything else in my or Mr. Mary Jane’s attire. I also wanted to lower the sash just a bit, since it’s supposed to drape around the natural waist, and as a tall girl, it currently drapes around my ribcage.
Off to Jo-Ann’s I went! I decided I wanted to find something with green in it to match my shoes.

Things are getting serious. This weekend is our first wedding shower, and it is far from the busy streets of NYC. It is at Mr. AC’s parents’ home in West Virginia. We are both really excited about the shower. It will be the first time (in 6 years) that my mom and sister have been to their home. It is the first time my sister will meet Mr. AC’s parents.

I have had a lot of stress in the last few weeks. The wedding is really causing stress in my life, but I have to say I am really looking forward to this shower. Being together with your family, your future in-laws, friends, and family is what weddings are all about. And being less than 2 and a half months out, this is an important reminder for me.
Since all of my bridesmaids, including my sister, live in North Carolina, I haven’t seen the BM dresses in person.

Our invitations are officially out of our hands and out of my mind as of today! I lugged them all to work on the train and mailed them from the (oh-so-convenient!) post office in my building.
And, of course, who doesn’t need an entourage when sending their invites?! My co-worker Megan was kind enough to accompany me down there to snap a few shots of the big “ta-da” (please don’t mind that I rolled out of bed a tad late today and didn’t put on a drop of makeup, ugh).

Last night I sealed them all and packed them up for the journey on the train. Don’t they look nice? That damask pattern across the top of the envelopes is one of my favorite details.

Having friends over to eat is one of our super bad ass budget and diet tricks. It gives us control over the menu, the cost, gives us incentive to keep our place presentable (which, clutternuts that we are, is quite helpful), and allows us all to enjoy a leisurely meal and great conversation in a cozy atmosphere. Some people find entertaining to be a high-stress race against the clock, but I have found that with some creativity, doing dinner in can be easy, breezy, and, well, entertaining!
The other day we had planned a lovely meal for some friends who had to cancel at the last minute, but we didn’t let that put too much of a damper on our plans - we just turned it into an impromptu, light and refreshing date night in! It’s hot as an oven here in LA, and we were coming from across town to make dinner in a hurry, so we had already honed in on light, fresh, no-cook dishes that take less than 5 minutes to make.
The menu:
The morning of the wedding I woke up and was completely calm. All the butterflies of the week fluttered away, and I was left with a feeling of peace and a spark of “hells to the yeah, it’s my wedding day”!!! It was an incredibly gorgeous day outside (no thanks to you, weatherman!), and I could not wait for what was to come.
After showering, lounging for a bit, and getting my daily recommended dose of caffeine, my bridesmaids and some family started to arrive. It was time to get gorgeous!
My cousin’s lovely wife, Stefanie, agreed to get us looking fabulous, and wasted no time getting started.

I know I said I’d post about my dress next, but I just had to share these incredible pictures of the boys getting ready. Mini Quiche A stole the show with his smoldering Blue Steel and deserves a spot in the next J.Crew catalog. Don’t you think?
Some of you super observant readers noticed my new bio picture and guessed that we FINALLY had our engagement pictures taken. You were right! I’m under strict orders from the mister that these pictures not get plastered around the internet… but I couldn’t hold out from you guys. So, I figured I could post just a few of my favorites, and deal with any consequences later.
Originally we didn’t intend to get e-shots taken. We didn’t think we would use them for anything and that it would be a waste of money. Oh, and Mr. Gloss HATES having his picture taken. One day I was mindlessly wandering through the Weddingbee Classifieds and came across a post for free engagement session in Boston with Nicole Chan. At this point, I was regretting not getting any pictures taken previously, because I wanted to use them for our guestbook, and I also thought it would be good practice to be in front of a camera. Additionally, I wanted test out how my ‘wedding-day makeup’ actually photographed. So, I dragged Mr. Gloss down to the Boston aquarium during the 4th of July weekend, thinking that everyone would have left the city for the holiday, since we typically do. I convinced him it would be empty and no one would see him getting his picture taken. Boy, was I wrong. The city was packed, since it was one of the first nice (ie not rainy) days of the whole summer!
So, Nicole and her assistant showed up, and we tried to erase the scowl off Mr. Gloss’ face. It took a little while, but eventually he warmed up. She was a pleasure to work with – neither of us are very comfortable in front of the camera, but by the end, we felt much more open and were really enjoying it (well, I was probably enjoying it more than the mister). Some of my favorite shots are definitely the outtakes with the genuine smiles, rather than posed shots, which completely confirms my decision to go with a ‘documentary style’ photographer for our wedding pictures.
So without further ado, here are a few pictures from the lovely Nicole Chan*:

Hi hive! I’m now T-minus seven days until the first day of the bar exam. You probably won’t hear a lot from me over the next few days, but I don’t want you guys to forget about me!
While the majority of my time these last couple of weeks has been spent reading over volumes of notes, taking practice multiple choice tests, and writing practice essays, I’ve also taken a little time out to continue working on the wedding plans. In fact, I hand-canceled and sent out the invitations this morning! I’ll be unveiling them after the RSVPs start rolling in.
Meanwhile, I thought I’d share with you a teeny glimpse into my life while studying for what may possibly be the hardest exam I ever take. My study group and I have been dividing our time evenly between a local coffee shop and my house. Here I am at the coffee shop. That’s supposed to be a look of disgust on my face, but I don’t know if you can tell.
One thing that has fallen by the wayside during the last week or so is my regular workout routine. Normally I try to exercise about five times a week, alternating between fun cardio (The Shred or Billy’s Boot Camp) and Pilates or yoga. I had to put these workouts on hold for a couple of weeks in order to cram in more study time. Luckily my friend and fellow bar examinee, “Ace”, let me in on a little trick known as “muscle farming.” We do this from time to time when studying starts to get us down.
