A couple of days ago, Bridesmaid AC was skimming through etsy.com while at work when she came across something she thought I might like. Boy, was she right! I clicked on the link she sent over and, bingo, there were our escort cards.
I’d gone back and forth between doing horse breeds as our table names versus the traditional number scheme. I even dreamt of Mr. CB slaving away at drawings of each breed similar to the horse he drew for our save-the-date. Unfortunately, Mr. CB didn’t feel the same way and off I went, in search of something to suffice.
I personally think brides who rock the short dress are just the cutest and most chic thing. Take Miss Mouse for example! If I hadn’t had my heart set on something dramatic and show-stopping, I definitely think I might have rocked the short dress.
Some of you might know, I live in Midtown Manhattan — the Garment District, to be exact. I am forced to walk by cheap, gorgeous clothing every day of my life. I say forced because, even though it’s cheap, I have a wedding to pay for! I can’t be buying every beauty in the window.
So yesterday, as I was walking to rehearsal, I stumbled upon this gem:
It’s SO stunning! It’s floaty and sassy and has two gorgeous bits of embroidery/beading. For a moment, I considered getting it as a reception dress, but I just love my dress too much to take it off any sooner than I have to.

Remember when I had this great DIY idea for a vintage suitcase card box? Yahhhh… my first attempt turned out so badly I couldn’t stand to snap a picture of it before it landed in the trash. So, I went with my backup plan.
When I was planning my candy buffet, I picked up this black cake stand, which happened to come in a great box. I’m not using the cake stand anymore, but it’s been sitting around my kitchen in that box. It only made sense to stop trying to think of something new and go with what works - a hat box turned card box.

Mr. S cut a slot out of the center with a box cutter, then I took some extra damask fabric I had on hand to cover the top. I didn’t have a big enough of a piece of fabric to cover the whole top, so I used two separate pieces.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Beverages will be a big part of our wedding. Because our ceremony will be outside in the Georgia heat (but hopefully not scorching heat come November), we are setting up a refreshment table with drinks for our guests to enjoy before the ceremony begins. This will also come in handy while they are waiting on the trolley to take them back to the reception.
So I’ve been collecting ideas on how to present the drinks and quickly fell in love with infusion jars.
Aren’t these super cute? I love the way they add so much “punch” (*chuckle*) to any table. So I began keeping an eye out for deals on infusion jars.

Oh yes we seriously did. We seriously just decided the whole name change debacle with rock, paper, scissors. The stakes? If Mr. D won we’d either both take my last name as a second middle and his as our communal last; I’d also retain middle name rights or my surname as a first name for our future kids. If I won? We’d both double barrel and so would our future kids. We played best out of five to determine the winner.

Hey there hive… just wanted to give a quick update to let you know that our son, Garrison Reid, was born into this world naturally on July 8, 2009 at 4:50am weighing 10lbs 5oz and measuring 21.5 inches.

We have been home a bit over a week and it has been an amazing time of bonding and getting to know the little guy.
And just to keep this post wedding related, for those of you who remember, Mr Corn and I were married on 09-08-07 and as you can see, Garrison showed up on 07-08-09. Needless to say we are tickled over the coincidence… of course that means there is a bit more pressure on child #2.
Love to you all,
Mrs. Corn
I haven’t really decided what I’ll do with the bouquets I’m making for my wedding. I’m not sure if I will display them as is, or if I will disassemble them and create something new from the remnants. While searching through wedding blogs recently, I somehow came across these gorgeous paintings that are made from pressed bouquet flowers from Curly Art:
I found this really cool blog called Blossoms and I fell in love with their deco clay flowers. Check them out!

I’ve gotten a lot of questions and comments about my bridesmaids’ fabulous dresses, so I thought I’d take a quick little break from my recaps to let you know how that look all came together.
It was basically born out of laziness. I knew that I did not have the desire or the energy to pick out a dress for my girls that they would all like, and even want to wear again. So instead, I passed the buck to them!

Okay, I wont be wearing a crown or a tiara. That’s just not my thing, and my dress doesn’t really warrant that kind of accessory. I am talking about a veil! I know, I know, “What about the hair flower, didn’t we cover this?!” I’m definitely still wearing the flower for the reception, but I might wear a veil during the ceremony. I had been considering a veil on and off but thought with the extra cost I’d probably just forgo it. But then I started noticing Momma Sunbeam casually asking here and there, not if I would get a veil, but when. She even gave me a little extra something just in case cost was holding me back. I know, what a great mom! So I thought, it can’t hurt to look, and made a stop to Priscilla of Boston in SF to try on some veils the day I picked my dress up from the seamstress.
I was so surprised how much I started loving them!
Initially I thought with my lacy, layer-y dress, a veil might just be too much. Especially one with lace edging. Then I tried them on and now I might just love the lace veils! Let me share my trip with you in pictures.

When I wrote my last post, I had a mess of supplies, a fast-approaching deadline, and big DIY dreams. I literally got less than an hour of sleep that night; I was too busy thinking about these cards. What would I do for them? And how would I make them snazzy, cute, and FAST?
I had been envisioning multiple papers, ribbon-tying, and all sorts of time-consuming but drool-worthy ideas that I love. I turned to my fellow bees to vent some frustration, and those level-headed ladies set me straight. “Do a postcard!” they said. “Save the dates don’t have to be fancy!” they said. They reminded me that most people send a magnet or a little one-page card, not some elaborate edge-scalloped, belly-banded masterpiece. I had been looking forward to DIY for so long that I’d become bent on creating The Best of the Best. But I simply did not have time, and those smartie-bees helped me realize this.
And a postcard? I hadn’t considered that approach. That’d save on postage and envelopes! (Envelope-buying is a real problem for me - I’ll discuss it in a bit.) Once I OK’d the postcard idea with Mr. Mary Jane and his mom, I felt a lot more confident about my ability to finish these save the dates.
But what about all the paper FMIL had bought for me to use to make these? I love it, and really wanted to incorporate it in the STDs. I ultimately decided to save it for the invites. It’s double-sided, so it’ll make a perfect folder for all of the important information.
When collecting supplies for the postcards, I considered a few important factors:

My MOH has proven to be quite a resourceful gal through my planning period, and makeup was no exception. She is a former Chanel makeup artist, so I was definitely looking to her to find me someone fabulous at a reasonable price to do me and my girls on the big day. So, off we went to visit Abegail, her good friend, who still works at a Chanel counter.
My daily makeup routine includes the Clinique three step program (which I have been less then thrilled with recently), a bit of bronzer, mascara, and of course, my cherry Chapstick. That’s it. When I’m getting dressed up I’ll add some eye shadow or a touch of liner and gloss. Yeah, I’m fancy. My main concern with the wedding day makeup was that I didn’t want to feel like I really had painted my face. I just wanted to look like a polished version of myself. Mr. Cloud was also really concerned; I believe his words were “tell them to be easy on the gunk”. Before I left, I had him go ahead and take the dreaded “before” picture of me with no makeup on at all. I’m cringing to think I am really posting this…
So after getting all of your wonderful feedback and opinions on our polka dotted cake options (thank you, ladies!!), I had a meeting with our cake baker. I showed her some of the same pictures that I showed all of you and told her what I liked about each one. Like some of you suggested, she thought that it would be best to create an amalgamation of all of the things that I like about the cakes I’ve seen and make it into a unique Mr. and Mrs. Star cake!
Please excuse my TERRIBLE drawing skills, but this was the only way I could think of to give you a good visual of what we came up with. If our actual cake isn’t 100 times prettier than this drawing, I’ll be shocked.
Like I said, please don’t judge.
We decided on decorating the bottom and top tiers with white frosting and black polka dots, and the middle tier with black frosting with white polka dots. This serves two functions:
