I’m feeling it. The pressure. The exhaustion. The regret. We’re less than 2 weeks out and I’m tired and feel like I’m missing a million details. My lists are getting shorter, slowly, but not without a few projects tossed out due too fatigue or just lack of time.
I keep telling myself I can do it, but sometimes I really wonder if I’ll get to that summery Saturday in August in one piece. Mr. Joey has been trying to calm me down and tell me that we’ll survive this, and while it helps, it doesn’t help much.
I don’t want to “survive”; I want to enjoy the last few days. I want to wish they would never end and not count the hours until they are over. I feel like we have so much on our plates and no one understands that but me. In a span of a week, I have my shower, bachelorette, rehearsal dinner, wedding, after party and day after lunch.
Here’s an example of people not understanding. My parents planned on throwing a small lunch the day after the wedding. It was supposed to consist of about 20 people—mostly the folks in the wedding party, and a few close friends. The told me on Tuesday that they would now like me to make 25 invitations and have them designed, cut, and ready by Thursday. I told them the people coming to lunch didn’t need invitations, and they told me these were for the other guests. The other guests? They are now inviting people (about 50), most of whom they didn’t invite to the wedding.
I tried to talk them out of it, but they aren’t hearing it.

Um, why hasn’t anyone told me how difficult and time-consuming reserving a block of rooms for a wedding can be? Somebody has really dropped the ball on keeping Miss Lab in the loop!
I’ve been trying for a couple weeks now to get a hold of someone at a few hotels I’m interested in, but haven’t had much luck. Either I call too late (this internship is killing all my free “business hours” time) or when I get a chance to call within operating hours, their sales teams are out for the day! I’ve tried leaving voice messages and emails, but no one is getting back to me. ARGH.
I was always under the assumption that hotel blocking would be one of the easier things to do in the wedding planning process.

Recently, foodgawker introduced craftgawker, a spin off gallery devoted to homemade goods. Most of the featured crafts link to another site from which you can make a purchase — Etsy, of course, is a popular one.
While the site’s still new, it currently boasts almost 50 pages of photographs featuring everything from jewelry to paper goods. Here’s a sampling of just some of the cute, wedding-appropriate items I spotted. (All images courtesy of craftgawker.)

The evening before our wedding I was a bundle of nerves. The weatherman had been teasing me all week—rain on Saturday, no rain, thunderstorms on Friday—gaahhh! All day Friday I was watching the skies, searching for clouds. But despite the weatherman’s reports, the evening was beautiful, and we didn’t get rained out. Which is fortunate, because we had no back-up plan. Eek!
Once at the venue, our fabulous officiant, Pastor Ron, explained the ceremony to us and walked us through the motions.
Please disregard the gazebo decor. There was another wedding that evening that finished riiiight before we were supposed to start. Cutting it close, Powder Puff style.
Holy feathered goodness! While I could wear one of these beauties every day of the week, methinks they’d look especially bad-ass on a bold bride. Little Von Loo makes clips, bands and combs that range from dainty and sweet to fierce and fabulous. From their site, it appears that down the road they’ll also offer custom designs; and with prices ranging from about $28-$130 - there’s something for any budget. Props to my mom, for turning me onto these and spawning a whole new obsession.
Better put a napkin down to prepare for the drooling that’s about to ensue…

So I figured after reading about our engagement, you might like to get a peek at my beautiful ring!
Mr. Star and I had looked at some ring pictures online and talked about what I did and didn’t like in an engagement ring. I kept hinting at the fact that the setting was really more important to me than the size and heft of the center stone itself. Much as I love me some bling, I knew we were on a budget (hello, we were still living in dorm rooms!) and I was much more excited to get a gorgeous setting that really reflected who I was, as opposed to spending all of what we had budgeted on getting an enormous rock.
I really didn’t have a clear idea of exactly what I wanted, though, so Mr. Star was left to search on his own. He went to about half a dozen jewelry stores before walking into one and immediately seeing my ring. He knew it was perfect for me the second he saw it, and boy, was he right! He must know me really well
I absolutely love my ring. It’s so delicate and vintage-esque and interesting to look at. Its unique shape really made it difficult to find a wedding band that looked good with it, so before I talk about our bands, I knew I had to show you the e-ring! Thanks for the help, Anne Ruthmann!
On cupcakes!
Okay, I couldn’t help it, so I did 4 hours of research (oh my, I need to stay away from the computer!) about eco-friendly stuff. One of my favorite ideas are these blossoms that can be turn into so many different things. They are made form the bottoms of plastic soda bottles! I already have a big and cool idea of what I’ll do with this, but I’m not revealing it until I can show it off a little better. So just keep those bottoms in mind!
Choosing our honeymoon location was not an easy decision! We wanted a place with wine, good food, beaches, and plenty of relaxing. One place we always pictured ourselves honeymooning was Europe. Two years ago, an internship made it possible for us to spend some time together in France. One of our favorite stops was Nice, so we set our sites on the French and Italian Riviera. Look how beautiful the towns are! With great wine and cheese, to boot. Ti Amo Italia!

We initially thought a two week trip would be perfect! We searched for flights, train tickets, car rentals, even bike tours. Needless to say, it added up quickly, since we really wanted to travel on our own. Then we discovered most of this coast was not going to be a beachy time like we had in France, because most of this area of the coast is, well, a cliff.
A beach is quintessentially honeymoon right?

Today is Doctorgirl Appreciation Day!!
Doctorgirl is one of our wonderful hostesses. A month ago, she mentioned that she was going to try and post 400 times in four weeks and make Honey Bee by her wedding (2500 posts!!) Of course, I was nothing but supportive… haha maybe not. This is what I told her:
If you hit 2500 comments by your wedding, I will shave my head!!!
ps I shave my head every day… so this offer is less valuable than it may sound. But seriously, if you hit 2500 comments by your wedding… I will break my long time blogging fast to post on Weddingbee’s frontpage and declare your wedding day as Doctorgirl Appreciation Day!!
And wouldn’t you know it - Doctorgirl shattered her goal, and is now at over 2600 posts! So Doctorgirl “wins”, and I have no choice but to declare today Doctorgirl Appreciation Day!
Reader cakes rocks the socks!

UPDATE: We’re trying out the streamlined layout as the default. If you’d like to switch to the classic expanded view, just follow the instructions in the post below!
Streamlined archives were a big hit… so now we’re testing a new optional streamlined version of the frontpage!

To try it out, just mouseover the word “expanded” at the top of the page (right above the MORE buttons) … and “switch to Streamlined”.

It streamlines the posts just like in the Archive pages.
We’ll test this out for a bit… and if the test goes well, we may make the Streamlined version the default frontpage view.
But if it’s not your style, no worries! There will be an optout so that you can set your frontpage to always show the classic Expanded version.
A few advantages of the streamlined version:

Sorry to keep bragging about how stress-free, laid back, cool, calm, and collected I was at the wedding.
Trust me, EVERYONE can accomplish this with a few easy steps - a hot cup of coffee, a hammock, a walk on the beach, a splash in the water, a sandcastle, and some yoga. Do this every day for 5 days, and I guarantee* that you will feel relaxed as well. The Jamaican mornings were some of my favorite times of the wedding weekend. Luckily, amazing Ashley was there to capture these unforgettable moments - she was everywhere!
It’s also nice to bring some friends along with you. Why shouldn’t they enjoy the mornings, as well?
The rehearsal dinner has been the source of some strife in the Stiletto household these past few months. We haven’t been able to find any places to host it!
I know you’re thinking to yourself, ‘Stiletto, what’s the deal? You live in Chicago and are surrounded by so many fabulous restaurants.’ That may be true, but the wedding events are taking place just west of the city in Oak Park, and I’ve been bending over backwards to keep everything in Oak Park, within walking distance of the church!
While Oak Park has some fabulous restaurants, the ones that could actually accommodate our group just didn’t grab our interests. Or if they did, we’d have to empty our wallets and then some to host our nearest and dearest.
