I freaked out about this before, but I’m freaking out (slightly, again). Our wedding is during a very busy weekend in Seattle, Seafair. I have NO IDEA why I didn’t check the date of Seafair when we booked the Lake Union Cafe. It’s probably the reason our date was the last available date this summer when we were looking 14 months ago.
So, the big deal about Seafair is the whole bridge closure-thing. Our ceremony is on the east side of Lake Washington (20-25 minutes from the actual bridge) and our reception is on the west side of the bridge.
Months ago I asked Mr. Joey if we should consider getting married somewhere else. Yes, the invitations had been sent out, and yes, it was pretty unlikely we’d find a church at the last minute, but I was willing to try. He said we’d be fine. I had emailed the Washington State Department of Transportation (WDOT) 11 months ago to find out what time the bridge closed on wedding Saturday, and they said 12:45PM. We’re getting married at 10AM and hoping everyone will be on the road by 11:10AM. Mr. Joey talked me off the ceremony edge, and all seemed well.
Then this week, a friend sent me a note saying the bridge was going to close at 11AM. WHAT!!! I frantically emailed the guy at WDOT again to confirm the time of the bridge closure, and again he said it would close at 12:45PM, and sent me a link to the event’s website. That should have satisfied me, but it only made me more confused.
Last Sunday my future in-laws and I stopped by Publix to pick up my cake samples. Boy were we surprised at Publix’s idea of a “sample” size.
It was practically an ENTIRE cake! I honestly thought I wouldn’t have enough to share with my FMIL & SIL when we went to try it. I was clearly wrong. Publix even threw in an extra flavor combo (half & half, aka chocolate & vanilla). It was around lunch time when we brought home our sample, so we undoubtedly gorged ourselves. Hey, it’s all in the name of wedding planning, right?
Um, Mr. Lab, I am going to politely ask that you refrain from clicking the “read more” link below. K, thx!

After four months of waiting, my handmade wedding dress finally arrived yesterday! It was just what I needed to brighten my mood and indulge my overstimulated brain after a marathon bar study session.
I haven’t told you guys who my dress designer is yet because I wanted to keep it a secret–it’s Sarah Seven! Miss Cowboy Boot blogged about her gorgeous fairy-esque bridesmaids’ dresses back in April. Well, news flash: she also has a gorgeous line of handmade wedding gowns, and they’re ultra-affordable!
Although she typically does custom orders, at the moment Sarah’s Etsy shop is fairly limited due to her immense popularity (because she is awesome, duh!). But she does have a few bridal listings up.
I want to share with you guys the “Pink Petals” dress that I had custom made in white. Please excuse the background clutter (this is the room where all of the wedding project stuff gets relegated to). Oh yeah–and please forgive the lack of a photographer. I gotta keep this one thing a secret from the Dude!

A couple months ago, I took a flower arranging class at a quaint little shop called Rose Red & Lavender in Williamsburg. The topic that evening was Ikebana — the art of minimalistic Japanese flower arranging. Flower arranging classes are a fun alternative bridal shower or bachelorette party, and Ikebana is an easy, inexpensive and beautiful method of diy’ing flowers so I thought I’d share a bit of what I learned!

Now, because our venue (Mr. Poodle’s grandparents’ ranch) is really dusty, I decided to go with a simple plain puffy tulle bottom, so that way the fabric wont catch as much dust.
But the top is not going to be like the picture you’re about to see. Don’t worry, I’ll have the “girls” well covered!
Something about pearls is just so… bridal. Chic and timeless, classic and romantic.

Thump, thump went my very happy heart when we finally got our save the dates out the door (only a month after we said we would)! It was one of those moments where you felt like your wedding was REAL! We had them printed at Vistaprint, unlike our invitations, for two reasons. First, they were super duper inexpensive. Second, two of our friends had used Vistaprint and their invites turned out just fine! It always helps when you’ve seen the product first hand before getting it yourself. Time for some eye candy!

Now you can drink your dessert. Dessert cocktails are all the rage. At Al Copeland’s Sweet Fire and Ice in New Orleans, one can order a sippable Banana’s Foster dessert called the Sweet Fire and Bananas Foster Cheesecake Martini. At Florida’s 1 Bleu Restaurant, cosmopolitans and pina coladas are transformed into desserts made with alcoholic gels.
This would be perfect for a cocktail wedding, or a dessert reception.
Here’s a recipe that Bailey’s fans will love:
I think before Mr. Beagle proposed, I always assumed that I would just take my future husband’s last name and, in the process, drop my last name. I hadn’t really thought of the seemingly endless possibilities of creating a new name or keeping my own, or even combining both of our last names.
Then, he proposed. And during one discussion soon afterward, he told me that he would be perfectly okay with, even be greatly supportive, if I decided to keep my last name. (Um, how did I find this guy… isn’t he great?)
The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. My father had two girls, and he’s the only son of my grandparents that had children of his own. I liked the idea of carrying on my name and representing my lineage. I’ve been known as Miss Beagle for almost 27 years now, and changing my name—essentially becoming someone new—started making less and less sense.
For the same reasons, I understand why people do change their names when they get married. A marriage is a new direction for two people, and from that point on, one union is formed. It’s romantic and symbolic to share a last name. It’d also be nice to have the same family name as your children.
On the other hand, I love Mr. Beagle’s last name and I really liked the idea of adding it to mine.

This weekend is a very exciting one for this bride-to-be. It’s my bachelorette party weekend! I’ll be heading up to Milwaukee for a weekend with my girls! I cannot wait to see my sisters, sorority sisters, and friends, and I am so grateful that they are all taking the time to travel to help me celebrate! The girls have been pretty good at keeping their lips zipped about the party, so I have no idea what’s in store. The only instructions that were given to me were what to pack (casual day outfit, swimsuit, and dressier outfit for the evening) and to make sure to bring my liver (and an extra one, if available) and a smile. The smile, I can do! The extra liver? That one’s just not going to happen!

My new swimsuit! Now if only I could look like her!!

There’s one picture I left out of the virtual venue visit the other day. Although I won’t experience it until the wedding weekend, I’m 100% confident the food at Westwind will be delicious.
Mmmmm…. Three types of heirloom tomatoes with fresh (buffalo, I hope?) mozzarella make quite the delectable Caprese Salad!
The best part (which I’ve mentioned before) is that everyone I’ve spoken to says the food is incredibly good!

UPDATE #2: Someone submitted this post to The Consumerist!
UPDATE: The owner of Urban Expressions responded to my email shortly after this post went up earlier today. This is what he or she said:
if the customer responds to me with several foul mouthed emails, they get foul mouthed replys right back. i figured if “fucks” and “shits” and “bitches” was her preferred tongue, I’d speak her language.
by the way i sold this company and all rights to its 1.7 million in inventory as of last week. it now operates under a new name, and at a new address as soon as they are done moving..
so you are wasting your time bashing it, but feel free. I have my money in my hand now.. so bash away ok..have a nice day, and have fun being an E-warrior hiding in the depths of the anonymus internet blogs that no one reads..
But Mrs. Martini’s friend only wrote that one email below. Her fiance did write an angry email to Urban Expressions without her knowledge, but that was only in response to the owner’s comments below. I believe that it was not a customer service agent that left those comments, as it appears to be a very small company, but the owner him/herself?!
Please note that this post is in reference to Urban Expressions the craft supply store hosted at eCrater, and not Urban Expressions the handbag store.

Wait… what was I writing about again?
Oh, right, Bride Brain. I’m normally not a very forgetful person. I remember to call people back, I reply to an email almost immediately (if I know the answer) and I am rarely late (unless I’m going to work).
I am what some people might refer to as impatient. I also try to employ the “Golden Rule” whenever possible - you know? Treat others as you would like to be treated. Thus, I want responses right away, so I try to respond to others right away. I would like my “dates” to be prompt, so I aim to do the same for others. That is, until lately. It isn’t like I’ve become a flake on purpose, or I don’t care all of a sudden. I am just really forgetful lately. Embarrassingly so.
