Matching the invite suite I designed for MOH-Ho, here are her thank you cards:
Becky stood guard by the door like my own private security detail, ensuring that I was well hidden until I made my grand entrance with my father. We heard a knock at the door, faint at first, and growing louder with a hint of impatience.
“Um, can I please come in?” a familiar male voice came through the miniscule crack in the door. Becky was about to send him on his way when someone in the room yelled, “It’s Ryan!!” Excitedly I gave her permission to allow our Best Man and my best friend to enter our fortress.
When he entered the room I felt my eyes well up for the first time that day. Seeing my “little brother” all decked out in his fancy tux just minutes before he’d be waiting with my groom at the altar hit me hard. It took all I had to crack a joke about holding him responsible for any makeup malfunctions due to tears. Ry looked like he was having a hard time keeping his emotions under control as well so after a quick embrace and a high five for good luck he was on his way out the door.

Two bees planning West Coast weddings from Chile? What are the odds? Meet our newest bee, Miss Poodle, who joins Miss Bear Cub as our 2nd bee blogging from South America!

Miss Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA
Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer
Fiance’s Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol
Engagement Date: February 25, 2009
Wedding Date: January 2010
Venue: Mr. Poodle’s Grandparents’ Ranch, Hesperia
About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who’s crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Yes, this is report from the field… specifically, Operation Mrs. Powder Puff: a date that shall live in infamy.
Mrs. Powder Puff, Mrs. Quiche and I all became bees right around the same time, back in late 2008. Sharing our freshman fears, we quickly became fast friends. We may or may not have consumed multiple alcoholic beverages in concert, ahem.
In any case, at our last dinner, Miss Powder Puff asked Mrs. Quiche and me if we’d like to come to her wedding. This is how the convo went:

With under 100 days until our wedding, things are starting to feel real for the first time. And finally, the 1001 little ideas I’ve sprouted over the past year-and-a-half are forming themselves into a somewhat cohesive vision of the big day. I’m not much for “themes” (unless we’re talking a Saved by the Bell party at which I was the only one to dress up), but I guess you could call our wedding theme “Rustic English Garden at Night”. Does that even make sense? Can I throw the word “vintage” around, too? Here are a few inspiration boards (via Snippet & Ink, of course) that I believe capture the feel of our wedding.
I have a minor decision to make that I can’t stop thinking about. I have a few weeks to think it over and I can promise you I’m not dwelling over this decision day and night. I think about my decision randomly (while at the grocery store or on the bus) and then move on after a few minutes.
What’s my decision? Don’t laugh. It’s what color nail polish to wear on my fingers and toes. I know, I know. We have 18 days and lots to do, and I’m worried about nail polish? I don’t know what to say. For some reason, it’s on my mind.
In the summer, I get a pedicure about once every 6-8 weeks. I change and maintain the color and length of my nails myself. It’s more about the scrubs and filing and making sure my feet get a little attention. I walk a lot in the summer, and my feet take a beating. Besides, I found a few places I like where I can get a mani/pedi for $25 total.
So, I have a few decisions to make. First, will my fingers and toes be the same color? And second, what color, or colors?
In the summer, I like the bright red (OPI Vodka and Caviar) or a bright magenta (All that Razz-berry). In the fall and winter I go for the darker colors (Midnight in Moscow or Black Cherry Chutney). I mix in the nudes in the spring, but mostly stick to the summer and winter palettes.
So the question is whether to go with a bright color or not.

I made another trip up north this past weekend for my bridal shower (post forthcoming – waiting for pics!) and jam packed the weekend with various other vendor appointments, including a meeting with our caterer (we have a menu!) and my hair trial.
The salon was booked later in the afternoon, so I snatched up their 9AM appointment in hopes I would be done and back for my bridal shower brunch at 10:30. The timing worked perfectly, and I think the hair worked out pretty good as well :).

This is not the easiest post for me to write. It means I need to be honest with you about myself - honest about my faults.
With less than two months before Mr. Bear Cub and I are back in Portland, I feel like I don’t know what to do. Oh yes, I know there are tasks that need to be taken care of - check up on the finalization of the invites, write our ceremony, learn our dance, pick some more key songs, do something substantial about the tables, pin down the menu… It just doesn’t feel like I’m getting anywhere with anything. As much as I try to fight it, I have one incredibly awful quality to my character. I crumble under stress.
It’s worse when the list of to-dos is longer. I physically can’t function with the thought of an insurmountable task list. And if I don’t know how to do some of the things on the list? (Um, hello, white vs. ivory??) My motor skills begin to shut down. The only way I’ve found to “reboot” from this mess is to take a nap. Everything’s always better when you have a new day to attack things, right? I’m well aware that this is not a productive way to deal with my stress. It’s just a Band-Aid, and it’s not helping me take care of wedding tasks.
The killer in this vicious cycle is I don’t actually know what I can cross off the list at this point.

Guests were enjoying drinks and hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail hour, while the rest of us were taking formal shots outside in the Upper Garden. I was grinning from ear to ear while standing next to my husband (!!!!), so saying “cheese” wasn’t going to be a problem for me. While posed shots really aren’t our style, we wanted to have standard portraits that our parents and grandparents could frame or show their friends.

I’m certainly not talking about Mr. Sunbeam! I definitely think he is “the one”. I’m talking about the wedding dress! In all, I must have tried on something like 30 dresses, trying desperately to sort out my preferences and hoping to find something that fit the feel of our wedding. I became a firm disbeliever in this so called idea that you’d “just know when it’s THE dress”, until it finally happened!

Remember this dress by Claire Pettibone? What made me love it was plunging v-neck and wide open back. It also had a nice layer of chiffon over satin that gave the dress a subtle swishy movement. The problem is that it didn’t look quite the same on me as it does on the model (what, I’m not a model??). The top wasn’t as deep and the drape was not so nice. My mom was not a fan either. So I moved on.

Last weekend was a big weekend for this bee. To get the weekend started off right, I went straight to the hair salon. Yep, that’s right, I finally got a post wedding chop.
Here I am on Thursday at work (don’t I look all serious and business-y in my glasses? Ha ha, what a lie):
And here I am this morning:

I considered writing out the whole phrase for “RSVP” on our invites, but then realized people might not know what it means. Luckily, they do know what “respond” means. We’ve already got 30 of our RSVP postcards in the mail, and we just sent out the invites last Monday! Let’s hope they keep rolling in!
We opted for RSVP postcards for a few reasons, the main one being to save money on postage and to avoid having to pay for RSVP envelopes.

Mid-summer has arrived, and that means it’s time to start working with my FMIL to plan the get-together Mr. Mary Jane’s parents are hosting a few days after our wedding! I’ve been wondering when the time would come, but have kept my mouth shut for the most part because this is their party - we’re just the guests of honor. If my FMIL wanted to plan it herself without any input from us, we’d be respectful of that (even though I am going through serious DIY withdrawals over here!). Thankfully, that’s not the case! I received an email from my FMIL yesterday, and she wants to meet with me this week to discuss/plan lighting, decor, and paper products for the party.
Sweet! To be honest, I hadn’t thought much about things like reception decor. What I’d pictured for this event was more of a low key, casual family get-together, but Mr. MJ and I are both humbled and flattered to find that his mom is seriously going above and beyond!
I decided that since we’re meeting this week, I ought to have a few ideas for my FMIL to work with - at least to see if she likes them. As you peruse our ideas, remember that we’re most likely serving barbecue (a la carte/buffet style), and (pending good weather) the majority of the festivities will take place outdoors.
I’m thinking thrifty and re-usable here. For lighting, I have always loved paper lanterns, so why not them? They’re relatively inexpensive, available in bulk at party stores, and reusable for future parties or in a dark space (such as a basement). They can be lit with regular light-strings, or some will function with tea-lights!
