So, we mailed out our 80 invitations this week. It was quite the relief, because pretty much every piece of those things was handcrafted by yours truly. This was by far my most ambitious wedding DIY project. I’ll post later with pictures of them and some tips on what I learned, but for now, I’ll give you some pictures that tell the story of our mailing saga.
We had quite the drama over what would be the correct postage for these puppies. I delegated to Mr. Star the arduous task of taking a finished invitation to the post office (which is ALWAYS crowded in New York, despite the fact that there are about 5 within a few blocks!) and getting it weighed to find out how much it would cost to mail them.
He went to one postal worker who told him it would be nearly $2 to mail each invitation, and while this seemed high to him, he didn’t know how much I was expecting to spend and went ahead and bought $160 worth of postage.
When he came home and told me what had happened, I freaked.

Two nights before the wedding (a Friday), we expect our bridal party and a few other people will be roaming around Devil’s Thumb Ranch and the surrounding areas looking for something to do. Our rehearsal dinner won’t be going on until the following night, and since it’s a destination wedding, we’re pretty sure quite a few of our guests will already be in town, making a vacation of it! So, we figure we should provide a little wedding-related entertainment.
Enter: Wedding Crashers. Yes, the movie. I mean, who doesn’t looooove Rachel McAdams? One of the unique things about our venue is that it has a 37-person movie theater, so we’re taking full advantage.
We’re renting it out, supplying popcorn, sodas, and candy, and making sure Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson’s fabulous antics are displayed across the big screen for all to see.

When we left off, I was starting to rethink the purple shoes. I started thinking they were a little too random when combined with all of the other carefully planned elements of our wedding. Instead, I started leaning towards more neutral colors, like nude or gray. The Dude’s suit is gray, and there will be accents of gray in the floral arrangement, so it will fit in a bit better. That said, I wouldn’t turn down an amazing pair of all black or black and white pumps.
I tried on these shoes from DSW, but despite the great clearance price, they were way too big and the heels were too high. I gave these pale gray Nicole Miller pumps a go as well, but they cut my ankles off in a horrible way, giving me the dreaded cankles! They were also waaaaay too high—they almost looked a little dominatrix-y on me!
And now for the front-runners: they’re also from DSW, and the brand is Seychelles.

Hi hive! My apologies for the delay in recaps—life happened and time passed so quickly! I’ll get right back into it where I left off: our rehearsal dinner. Now I know it’s summer and the middle of July, but just picture the mountains of Colorado and a light snowfall. Got it? Okay, now picture the trees lit up with Christmas lights and warm winter jackets. The night of our rehearsal was perfect, and if any of you are familiar with Colorado weather, you know it’s rather unpredictable. I had worried about the possibility of a huge snowstorm that would prevent our guests (and many of our vendors!) from reaching Vail, but the light snow the night of our rehearsal put my mind at ease—we would NOT be snowed in!
We rehearsed at the Vail Chapel and walked literally right across the street to a local restaurant for dinner. It’s located within one of Vail’s oldest and most unique Bavarian style hotels. The are a few restaurants within this hotel, but the restaurant we chose has the true Western, feel complete with antler chandeliers, and we wanted guests to experience something with Colorado style.

Hullo everyone! I’m back and I’m a married lady! The wedding day was the most fun, joyful, and amazing day of my life. After battling bundles of nerves in the week leading up to the big day, I woke up Saturday morning feeling calm. I was ready to get hitched!
And boy did we ever get hitched! I can’t wait to share all of the details with you in our recaps, but needless to say, we laughed, we cried, we busted fatty moves all night. Best. Day. Ever.
Our photographer promised us some teasers early this week, but while we’re waiting, here’s a sneak peek for you guys. Enjoy!

We’re ringing in the new week with a new bee! With 2 1/2 months to go, she’s got a lot of gorgeous details to share with us about her renovated barn wedding. Say hello to Miss Sunbeam!

Miss Sunbeam, San Francisco/Grove City, PA
Age & Occupation: 26, Grad Student & Office Manager
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 27, Motion Designer
Engagement Date: May 10, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: Harbison Chapel & The Maple Lane Farm
About Me: Mr. Sunbeam and I are high school sweethearts. We both come from a small town in PA but are growing to love the California lifestyle. He loves wine and I love cheese… the perfect combination! When I’m not drooling over wedding blogs, I’m attending grad school, out being a foodie, or attempting to “walk” our cat in the park. Two things guaranteed to excite me are wedding cakes and breaking out my suitcase to travel. Mr. Sunbeam and I are personalizing our hometown wedding to celebrate our high school sweetheart status and PA roots with a few CA touches. After ten years of dating we couldn’t be more excited to call each other husband and wife!
When Mr. Joey and I were talking about the ceremony way back when, I asked him if he was interested in incorporating a few Filipino traditions into the regular Catholic ceremony. He was game for it and was excited to spice things up a little. We checked with our priest and he said as long as they were cultural, a few added elements to the ceremony were OK.
I don’t know if any of you have been to a Filipino wedding, but they have a lot going on. They are usually full masses, include multiple sets of marital godparents, a veil and cord ceremony, a candle ceremony, and a few other elements. I won’t go into detail but if you are interested, I found a blog that does a good job of summarizing the traditions.
We’re not doing the veil and cord ceremony, and while we did “select” godparents, we’re not having them do all the things typical godparents do. They are going to serve as our witnesses. The traditions we did decide to incorporate into our ceremony are the Unity Candle and the Arrhae.
The Unity Candle has may different meanings, but the one of the more common ones is the uniting of two families. We really like this. We get along great with our families and they seem to get along well, too. We like the idea of our families formally coming together. Usually 2 godparents (one from each family) each lights a taper candle and the bride and groom each take a lit candle and together light a larger candle - the unity candle. Instead of sponsors, we’re changing it up and asking our moms to light the taper candles. We think it’s a nice way to include them in the ceremony.
The other tradition we’re adding is the Arrhae.

If you knew my flower girl, an adorable yet rambunctious 4 year old, you would know that no ball of flowers stood a chance of surviving the wedding day. I would give an hour, max, to even the best made pomander. That made the high price tag of floral pomanders even harder to swallow. So I started doing research, and after reading tons of tutorials (none of which I bothered to bookmark or save of course… bad blogger), I figured I could easily take this one on.
Off I went to Michaels to pick up some supplies. This actually took multiple trips because I am cheap, and since Michaels is actually on my way home from work, I am not above picking supplies up, one per day, to fully take advantage of 40% and 50% off coupons. Silk flowers are expensive, people! Here are the supplies I used:

Total: I can’t correctly give a total or cost per head because we took lots of unconsumed bottles of wine and Coke home with us and only drank a third of the keg(!!), the rest of which was bought by the saloon for re-use there.

Cost breakdown:
I’ve known ever since we decided to incorporate polka dots into our wedding scheme that a polka dotted cake would be the perfect way to showcase the theme at the reception!
There sure are a lot of different ways to do polka dots on a cake, though! Surprisingly many! I’d love to share a few of them with you and get your feedback.
I like this one because I love the idea of having a polka dot cake with a differently-decorated tier in the middle. Plus, the green is so cute!
I know we’ve all heard (or experienced) stories about brides demanding ridiculous things from their bridal entourage (aka bridetourage). I love my girls and want them to look and feel as amazing as I do when the big day rolls around. For dresses I chose about six or seven dresses from J.Crew and told them they could chose whatever style they liked. Of course they all ended up choosing the same dress
(but I didn’t push it, I swear!). So when it came time for shoes, I left it up to them. I said I would like them to be yellow, to add a little POP to their ensembles.
Setting: MOH and I are having an internet shoe searching date. I suggest about 4 normal pairs and throw in the pair below (sent to me a few days prior by Glossy Gal K).
MOH proceeds to fall out of her chair laughing and comments that she thinks her grandmother has them. She then decides to send an email to the rest of the bridetourage with a link saying the following.
“Ok Ladies… I finally did it and took the plunge. I ordered my final choice for shoes this evening… Thanks to Glossy Gal K for discovering them!!! They’re running short on sizes so order fast if you want to get a pair like this, too!!!”
Glossy Gal K immediately responds : “Don’t you LOVEEEE them? I’m so excited that they’re perfect for the wedding, walking on water, and possibly running a marathon.”

While the more masculine half of our group was knocking off in the grill, the girls had some serious business to get down to. We filled the boardroom at the Club to capacity and as I looked around, I realized how incredibly blessed I was to be surrounded by my favorite ladies in the whole world. My mother, sister, bridesmaids, flower girls, and aunts were all there, as well as our florist, the lovely Jenna, the female contingent of our awesome photography team, Karen, and our amazing DOC+, Becky. It was a full house that afternoon, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
We began by unpacking and laying out all of our accessories.
