Up until a few years ago, I’d never really been a fan of women. Frankly, they scared me. A few bad break-ups (the friendship kind) in high school and college, a few intimidating (or, let’s be honest, silly) girlfriends of good male friends, a few too many snarky comments – I was done. I had a few male friends and my mom. That was it.
And then, at a very low point in my life, I met L. She was my vet, actually, one of many vets I’d had in my life, but for some reason, meeting her changed my life. She was so funny and smart and sweet, and for just a second, I wondered what it would be like to be friends with her.
And then I was.
Since those days, more than two years ago, she’s moved on to bigger cities and better dreams, and I miss her all the time. But she boarded a flight and bought a dress and traveled all the way across the country for little ol’ me. And I needed her.
Because she, too, laughs with her whole body.

After attending Mrs. Kitten’s beautiful wedding in Grand Cayman and seeing her cocktail hour trivia cards in action, I knew I needed something to keep guests entertained throughout the reception. I wanted to create some type of photo project so that guests could share in our memories or even pick themselves out in a photo or two.
Enter this amazing project I found via A Practical Wedding.
The project, Polaroids strung up on a line, was everything I’d been looking for and more. Simple, interactive, and best of all–it matched the casual, vintage feel we’re going for! I initially thought the project was going to be too much work, but for some reason I just couldn’t stop thinking about it! So I headed back to the post on A Practical Wedding and scrolled through the comments, trying to figure out how the bride created these authentic-looking Polaroids.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
In my last post, I briefly mentioned that we were not only planning on meeting before the ceremony, but that we were also exchanging cards to each other. Only we both forgot to get each other cards. Oops. That morning, while I was looking for the thank you card I had for my H&M stylist, I realized I had 2 extra cards. Perfect! One was rushed over to Mr. Sushi.
I actually don’t remember much about leaving the hotel or the drive to the ceremony venue. I remember my mom telling me that the shuttle was at the hotel, which meant Mr. Sushi was leaving, since he was taking the shuttle with the guests to the venue. I remember frantically trying to get all my crap together and then throwing it all in my bestie’s car. Then magically, I was at the temple.

Hi, Hive - I’ve missed you ladies! (And gents! - Gents? Do boys read this blog?)
Long time no blog - mainly because I was busy crying in my oatmeal. (Kidding - mostly!)
I just got back from my Honeymoon turned Sistamoon, and I promise to share all of the deets with you soon: including cruise and travel tips, as well as a DIY travel journal to end all travel journals (The journal is either incredibly amazing, or incredibly obsessive-compulsive, depending on how you look at it.) Before we get to that though, I was moved to write this blog because I am still active on the Weddingbee message boards, and on a fairly regular-ish basis, I see a post by a bride who had to call off her wedding, due to a variety of horrible circumstances.
Weddingbee is about the experience of moving towards the altar, and for some brides, that journey gets cut short, which is what happened to me.

This past weekend I had my second bridal shower. I don’t have any pictures back yet from the photographer (yes, there was a photographer) so I don’t want to give a full rundown of the event until I get them back. But I do want to share a sneak peek with you of the beautiful tablescapes that were created for the shower! They were so pretty!
Hive, I need your opinion. It’s been 6 weeks since our wedding and I have yet to send a single thank you note!!! And as each day passes (and the wedding becomes more and more of a distant memory*), the pressure to send them out is flying out the window.
I know I need to send them, but I feel like I am going through an internal struggle about what thank yous to send.
Here are the conversations that I have been having with myself (yes, I am part crazy lady, with multiple personalities):
Responsible, rational Peep: You need to start writing and sending thank you notes, STAT.
Crafty, lazy Peep: But wouldn’t they be so much better if they were crafty like Mrs. Corn’s?:
Or had an uber cute wedding photos on them like Mrs. Daffodil’s?:

A big part of our wedding, and theme of our whole wedding weekend, is the city we live in: Richmond Virginia. Richmond is not only the capital city, but it’s also where we met, and fell in love. It only made sense to really feature its historic beauty for all of our guests to see, most of which will be traveling in and have never been here before. As I have mentioned before, neither Mr. Cloud nor I are originally from Richmond, but as we began to decide where we wanted to say, “I do,” and celebrate afterward, we wanted to pick locations that would not only be memorable, but would also show our guests a true slice of the city.
One good thing about going to a school with an amazing art program? Lots of stunning pictures of the area you live in.

When I first moved here, it was as a college freshman attending Virginia Commonwealth University in the heart of the city. The campus is unlike many traditional college campuses mainly because of its location. As students you are sharing the area with offices, apartment buildings, and churches, all of which are located right smack between school buildings. In fact, most of the offices for the various university departments are located in restored row houses in Richmond’s fan district.

I recently had my first bridal shower. Going into it, I was excited but slightly nervous. I am not one to be the center of attention, and knowing that people would obviously be looking at me a lot was a little overwhelming. (Just imagine what I’ll be like before the wedding! Haha.) However, once I arrived at the shower, I had the best time.
For our ceremony reading, Mr. Candy Corn and I agreed on a popular children’s book, “I Like You” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg. The obvious choice was to ask my brother to read, since we are so close and I wanted him to be involved in the ceremony in some way. His theater background certainly helped with capturing our guests’ attention. I got the giggles part way through from complete and utter nervousness, but tried to mask it by squeezing Mr. Candy Corn’s hand for dear life.

I like you and I know why.

After our experience with the “big brands” (e.g. Bed, Bath & Beyond and Williams-Sonoma), we felt an overwhelming need to find more “us” stuff. Don’t get me wrong… we registered for plenty of stuff at BB&B, but we have a love of unique art pieces, so I thought we should create an Etsy registry.
Currently Etsy doesn’t have an official registry, so I decided to create a button on our wedding website and a post a few items that we liked.
Ever since our wedding planning started, I wanted to do a candy buffet. I wanted to make sure our guests were comfortable and felt appreciated when they left the wedding. I started to collect different jars slowly. I didn’t buy all the jars at once. I just shopped around at Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, Target, etc…

I didn’t want to have just candy, so I did some research on cupcakes and came across this site: bakerella.com. She had some cake pops that looked really fun, so I started making them. I normally don’t eat desserts that much, but my husband is a HUGE fan so I thought it’d be fun to make a big spread of desserts and candy.
