“You see how picky I am about my shoes and they only go on me feet.” - Cher, Clueless
Like many brides before me (and I’m sure many brides after me), I cannot make up my mind when it comes to my shoes. Two weeks ago I showed you all these lovelies and I was determined to make them mine.

That was until I saw the shoes of this lovely bride—my friend, Alisa.

I have not talked about my engagement ring, so here it is.
It’s not that I don’t like my engagement ring. I LOVE IT. Yet I often feel particularly uncomfortable about discussing it with people or for lack of a better phrase, “showing it off”. I guess I’ll reveal to you all my insecurity about the fact that my ring is a bit bigger than I expected (Ugh! It pained me to write that!!!). While I love it as the most lovely and generous gift that Mr. Swan has ever given me, I find that often some other people view my ring (or really engagement rings in general) in a different way.
The moment I got engaged to Mr. Swan I was this big ball of emotion and tears.

Even looking over the pictures again makes my heart swell. It was such a wonderful day, filled with so much love. All of my worries were for nothing. Even though I was still a bit anxious about opening presents, I had a few of my fabulous ‘maids right next to me to keep the chatter and laughter going all afternoon! Other than my ‘maids, and an old high school friend, most of the guests were Mama Cloud’s friends. I grew up in the area, but my parents have moved back to Boston, where we were originally from, a few years ago so I know she was also very excited to see everyone.
The company was not only great, but the decorations were amazing also! The whole house smelled amazing, courtesy of all the gorgeous peonies, my favorite!!

Don’t worry, I’m not talking about us. I’m talking about our guests. In the last few months, we’ve had 3 invited couples break up. All 3 were in long-term relationships and all 3 just sort of broke up. I know that all 3 of these break ups were hard, and some more complicated than others. For us, it was hard because through each break up, we sort of lost a friend (at least temporarily). Each couple consisted of someone we were really good friends with and a partner we were just getting to know and like or become pretty good friends with. When couples like that break up, we usually end up severing or suspending ties with the partner until things settle down. It’s complicated but doable, until your friends break up around your wedding. Then, what are you supposed to do?
Are they still coming as a couple (if they broke up on good terms)? Possibly, but probably not. Do we have to say something to one or either person? Probably, but it’s weird and awkward. They just broke up and we’re worried about our numbers? Lame. Do we just leave it and pretend that our friends’ exes (who are recently your new friends) may come anyway and just make sure the couples aren’t sitting together? These are all tough questions.
And what do we do if our friend breaks up with their partner and the is partner invited to other events like the bachelor party, showers, or after party?

We had so much fun at our raucous door games that no one — not even Hot Mama Cocoa, the keeper of time and traditions — paid attention to the clock. So by the time we collected ourselves and got back to bit’nez, it was past 2:30, the auspicious hour when the tea ceremony was supposed to begin.
Sorry, Chinese astrologer lady who set our schedule; we tried!

I hustled my embroidered Chewish butt downstairs to one of the hotel’s meeting spaces, where all the relatives participating in the ceremony were already gathered. Who knew that Jewish and Chinese people could be so on time?! And there wasn’t even going to be food involved!
I already made one ‘hanger cover’ for my dress, but in the meantime I had come across this board post by MrsPaetz, and got motivated to make cute initialed hangers for all the ladies (aka the Glossy Gals). I figured making them for the boys would be a waste of time, because lets face it, I’m going to be happy if they remember to bring their pants.
So, when I went to pick up my dress (she is now back in my possession!) and realized I was already more than halfway to IKEA, I figured I’d just pop over and grab some white hangers. If you have ever been to IKEA, you know how long it can take to make it through that store – even if you have just one item you are planning on getting :). Minutes after my decision was made, as if on cue, I got a text:

The Sushis’ wedding rings
Mrs. Sushi’s Ring
Engraved yellow gold over top of white gold, Hawaiian Jewelry
Vendor: NEX, HI
Price: $575

“I knew I wanted to get Hawaiian jewelry as my wedding ring, so we waited ’til we were in Hawaii to order my ring. I ordered my ring a week before the wedding and paid a whopping extra $25 to make sure it would be ready in time. My ring available for pick up the evening before the wedding. Talk about cutting it close! Thanks to the military and the Navy Exchange, I was able to get my ring far cheaper than if I would have bought it locally (no tax, too!). ”

I’ve spent endless hours writing DIY posts that include everything from detailed instructions to downloadable templates (I know I’m slacking as of late, y’all, but I’ve got a good excuse!). Honestly though, even with plenty of your kind and wonderful feedback on my quirky creations, I often wonder if they are ever put to use.
Yes, I succumbed to the P.W.C., otherwise known as the Post Wedding Chop.

I love it! I was SO tired of my hair by the time I cut it, so I am in heaven. It is the perfect summer style - so light and fresh! It doesn’t hurt that Mr. Quiche loves it, too.
I have been wanting to chop off my hair for quite a while now, but waited so I could pull my hair back for the wedding. I also wanted to donate it to Locks of Love - but my stylist told me that I couldn’t! I was surprised. He told me it was because they no longer accept blonde hair, which didn’t sound right to me, but how was I to know?

With six months to go until the wedding, it was time to start planning our honeymoon! We had already decided we wanted to go to Greece. The Dude’s never been to Europe before, so he was game for almost anything. I liked the idea of having at least a couple days to relax on the beach, and he couldn’t wait to see some ancient ruins. Island hopping in Greece seemed like the best of both worlds. Sure, plane tickets would be expensive, but the Dude’s been diligently saving ever since we got engaged.
Imagine our surprise when my mom generously offered us her airline miles on British Airways!

Despite almost every bee before me advising that their day of coordinator was one of the best investments they made in their weddings, I just refused to listen. I considered myself a laid-back bride. I definitely thought that if things went wrong during our wedding day, I would just be able to roll with the punches. This is NOT what having a DOC is about. Anal or not, someone will have to take on this task on your wedding day, whether you pay them or not, especially if you’re a DIY bride. This is my experience, and I hope that if you’re on the fence as to whether or not to hire a DOC, this helps you make your decision!
Our wedding was very DIY in almost every aspect. Our florist was not on-site, our friend was our DJ, and other than the cake and groom’s cake bakers delivering our cakes, the only real vendors on site were people associated with our reception venue. With so few vendors on site at our wedding, someone had to take the reins and make sure everything was in place… and that person was NOT me. Don’t delude yourself (like I did) into thinking that you can swing by the ceremony site in the morning and run around and set everything up as a DIY bride. It’s unrealistic, and really, it takes away from the experience of your day, I think. At crunch time you should be spending time with your closest friends and family, primping and preening!
I was pretty selfish when it came to planning out the setup of our wedding day. There were so many people that told us that they were available to help set up the wedding, that I was just oddly confident we could all just throw something together at the last minute. After all the sweat I put into all those DIY projects, I thought, ‘we’ll just throw it all out there.’ I have no idea why. Finally, during the week of the wedding, I realized that it was unrealistic to send out a massive gang of my family members out to the site (most non-English speaking) and have them just throw it all together. They really had no idea what I had been planning all along, and describing it to a gaggle of Thai relatives just didn’t seem like the right thing to do. So, I realized I had to put someone in charge; someone who already had a real idea of what I’d envisioned.

I saw this picture what seems like a million years ago now and knew immediately I HAD TO HAVE red shoes. Our colors are black and white with a hint of deep red, so what better then to have a hint peeking out from under my dress?

Colored shoes are obviously everywhere these days, and I would like to say I’m not a fan of many things once they have been really overdone, but I just can’t let go of this one. One of my particular favorites is Jessica from tying the knot and her super cute purple pumps.
