Mrs. Crab Cake's Picture
Mrs. Crab Cake, Columbus, GA Age and Occupation: 25, Registered Nurse Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Director of Education and Living History for a museum Engagement Date: April 6, 2008 Wedding Date: June, 2009 Blogging Since: November 26, 2008 Venue: Holy Family Catholic Church, reception: National Infantry Museum About Me: I'm a perfectionist trying to balance two jobs, motherhood, my craft obsession, and wedding planning. I am obsessed with all things wedding, especially creative ideas for saving money and DIY projects. A Southern Belle at heart, I love anything southern, especially sweet tea, grits, afternoon thunder storms, crab cakes, and good old Southern hospitality. Mr. Crab Cake and I are planning a vintage inspired wedding with tons of Southern flare (can y'all say that with a thick Southern drawl?).
About Mrs. Crab Cake

I decided to title my recaps “Love’s Valley of Dreams” because they are lyrics from our song, Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller. Thus begins the recaps!

About a month before the wedding (or 6 weeks ago, whatever), my photographer and I got together and did my bridals.

Apparently, this is a Southern thing. I didn’t know that. I learn something new every day. Anyway, we decided to do bridals instead of another engagement session, since Mr. CC and I had one engagement session already and I couldn’t convince Mr. CC that we needed another. I actually wanted to re-take our engagement pictures since I wasn’t very happy with the original session, but Mr. CC was not seeing the point in that. In the end, I’m really glad I got to do bridals. It gave me an opportunity to try everything out together, including finding the easiest way to get into all that nonsense, lace it up, etc., etc.

Kristian and I decided that we would visit Callaway Gardens and do most of the session there. The night before the session, we chatted about the weather, since rain was in the forecast. It had been raining for 7 days straight and was supposed to be clearing up some, but it wasn’t looking good for our particular day. We decided that we would go for it anyway, since the wedding was closing in on us and it was too late to reschedule my hair and makeup appointments. There were some areas inside the Gardens that were actually indoors, so we figured the worst thing that could happen was that we’d be confined to those spaces.

On Friday morning, I got a bright and early start. I was up at about 7, dressed, and out the door with Mini in tow by 8:15. My appointments started at 9 and I needed to get her to school before heading to the salon. She was terribly upset that she didn’t get to go with me, and I had to bribe her to get her to go to school quietly.

When I arrived at the salon, there were some nasty looking thunderclouds above, but no rain yet, so I crossed my fingers, said a quick prayer, grabbed my veil and hairpiece, and ran inside.

About Mrs. Star

First off, let me say that I absolutely love how my last post touched so many of you young-ish brides out there. It was really amazing to read all of your stories and know that I’m not even close to being alone in struggling with this issue.

So, in my quest to continue to help you young-ish brides out there (and in turn get the support of you wonderful bees out there!), I bring you the latest installment in the series: family issues.

Many of you wrote poignant comments about how young your parents got married and how many decades they had made it so far, which I loved reading. My parents were also married young: my mother was 21 and my father was 24. My parents, however, were not quite as lucky. They were married for twelve years (pretty unhappily) and got divorced just before I turned 13. They now are on such poor terms that they do not speak at all.

This, needless to say, did not create warm, fuzzy feelings in my parents about the prospect of my getting married in my early twenties.

Mustaches and Masks

My friends Sophia and Mike are an artistic couple, so I’ve been trying to think of things that I can send them that reflect their fun, laid back style.  Then I remembered these super fun mustaches on a stick photographed recently by Carl Zoch – how fun would these be for a photobooth?!

Mrs. Mouse, Austin Age and Occupation: 25, Weddingbee Editor/Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil Engineer Engagement Date: December 19, 2007 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Barr Mansion About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!

Alterna-Dance

July 5th, 2009 @ 2:20 pm by Mrs. Mouse

The Dude and I have known a couple things regarding our wedding reception from the beginning: 1) we want everyone to dance like crazy and have a great time, and 2) we don’t want to play “typical” wedding dance music. You know, the kind of music that middle-aged white people dance to? Yeah, you know what I’m talking about. The YMCA. Celebrate. The Hustle. Anything resembling ’80s hair metal. I know it gets people on the dance floor, but I Just. Can’t. Do it.

Instead, I’ve been trolling through our CD collection over the past few weeks, picking out some potential alternative dance song gems. My ultimate goal is a list of poppy, indie songs-with-a-beat, that are danceable enough so that people who have never heard them will want to get out there and boogie. Throw in a splash of Top 40 hip-hop (I like Kanye and T.I.), a classic Prince song or two, and some Electric Light Orchestra for the Dude, and we’ve got ourselves a party!

We can do our best to select cool music, but we can’t help it if people dance like this.

THE List!

July 5th, 2009 @ 12:05 pm by Mrs. Cloud

I admit, when this whole wedding shebang began, I was very naive. I have been obsessed with everything weddings for quite sometime, but even despite that, I never understood all the drama when it came to the issue of the guest list. I just figured we would invite who we wanted and no one we didn’t. Easy peasy, right? Wrong, wrong, wrong, SO VERY WRONG!

THE List! : wedding guest list Wed 53

[Source]

I kid! I kid!

Our list venture began innocently enough; we asked both sets of parents to come up with a rough list of the people they would like to invite while we came up with ours, as well. The only problem was, when it all came together, we had over 450 people! Now, we weren’t planning on having an intimate affair, but this was no Platinum Wedding either!

So, we took a good long look and got real about who we should and should not be including.

Here is a peek into how the bees budgeted for live entertainment for their weddings! Be sure to check out the rest of the posts in our Real Bee Budgets series!

Mrs. Quiche’s Live Entertainment

Band: Steel Drum Band
Price: $400/hr x 2 hr = $800

Ceremony music (Calypso Trio (included for ceremony) & hired for an additional hour): $100
Speaker/Microphone/iPod hookup (for after) - $225

The Bees' Live Entertainment Budgets : wedding budget Rehearsal 36

Our resort offered a number of options for live entertainment, but initially, we didn’t want to spend the money on it. For example, the reggae band was $3,000!

In the end, we wanted to have authentic Jamaican flair & hired a steel drum band. What a great decision! They were awesome. We changed our minds about having them at the reception & decided we’d rather have them at the rehearsal dinner. It was awesome!

He is the calm, logical and number crunching finance guy. I can’t even multiply double digit numbers in my head and I am so indecisive that trying to choose between light green or slightly lighter green paper stresses me out (Wedding planning is going to be soooo much fun). We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!
About Mrs. Martini

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry for such a long hiatus! Rather than make excuses for my laziness, I will just say that I’m back in full blogging force. I finally received our wedding pictures from our photographers, Cly Creation, and all the pictures are just absolutely amazing. I’ll definitely post them soon, and I can’t wait to share them!

But first I wanted to finish up the post I’ve been meaning to finish - here are a few more last minute things that kept me busy just days before our wedding:

1. Petal Cones

I know that I wanted petal cones for our ceremony, but it was tough trying to figure out how, because the chairs in the ceremony room had rounded backs. It was something that bothered me at first because there would be no way to hang the petal cones on the chairs like this:

Miss Latte Gets Married!

July 3rd, 2009 @ 5:41 pm by Mrs. Latte

It’s time. Today’s wedding day for the Lattes! It’s been a crazy couple of weeks filled with lots of packing, moving, crafting and last-minute planning. Don’t worry, I’ve been going picture happy so I promise to share with you all of my projects after the wedding. So… escort cards, photo booth details, favors, programs and so much more to come.

But I will leave you with this picture of us getting our marriage license. It summarizes much of what has been going on… we’re both tired from running around all day (that particular day, I had my makeup trial, Mr. Latte delivered some OOT bags, and we were behind on our “To Do” list), but were excited that our big day was near!

Miss Latte Gets Married! : wedding license relationships License

Oh hive, I just want to give you a big, fat THANK YOU for your positive enthusiasm, creative energy and most importantly, your unending support throughout the Latte wedding planning process.

About Mrs. Star

So today marks the big 1-0-0 for the Star household. I can’t believe how quickly everything’s coming up!

I’m beginning to feel a little frazzled and like I need another month or two! Luckily for me, I’ve seen many a bee get stressed and feel like she couldn’t possibly get everything done, but totally pull it off with time to spare! I know we can do it.

What’s helping me to stay sane is a little organization. At the beginning of our engagement, I started out with one long list of things to do. Talk about overwhelming. On top of that, I was getting email reminders from The Knot every few weeks nagging me about all the “unfinished to-do list items” that I had piling up. No bueno. Then I stumbled across Mrs. Cheese’s post about how she was keeping her last minute to-do list from terrifying her by putting items into either a “sooner” or “later” category, according to the urgency of the task. It sounded like an awesome idea to me and so I created a Google Document with my to-dos organized in this format and spread the word to immediate families and the bridal party that they could take a look at it, too, if they were wondering how they might be able to help.

Unfortunately, this method of organization still wasn’t enough for my frazzled self and I still found myself staring at this impossibly long list and wondering where to start. And my bridal party, as awesomely helpful as they’ve been throughout this process, was having trouble looking at it, remembering that it existed, etc.

Enter: Fairy Bridesmaid, the most organized woman on the face of the planet.
