I’m not talking about the Penelope Cruz movie, even though I really like it and wish I could cook like she can. I’m talking about cake toppers!
Mr. Poodle is a very good climber and I love to go climbing with him every chance we get. (Notice how I didn’t mention I was good at it!
I’m not… yet!)
So after I told him that I thought it would be cool to have climbers on our cake, the first thing he said was, “Ohh, can I be climbing the cake and can you be at the top helping me out?” I said, “Of course!”
I searched for the perfect climber’s pose. The girl will be on top of the cake holding a rope, and the boy will be climbing his way up. (Go Mr. Poodle! You can make it!)
During my first attempt, I used normal, cheap clay—not the same kind I’m using for the flowers.
Our invitations came in two parts. Mainly because our stationer had to skip out of work for a week to attend her sister’s wedding. So, hey, I can’t complain right? Weddings, as we all know, are a very valid excuse for most anything.
Since they came in two parts, I’ve been staring at the first bunch (about 90% of the goods) for almost two weeks and trying to find ways to “play” with them. I stamped the RSVP envelopes, I numbered the RSVPs in case guests forget to write their names and I tied and re-tied the raffia once or twice. Today, I received the second part, our handkerchiefs. The portion of the invitations that will display our home-drawn map (Mr. CB’s drawing, not mine. Luckily). Ready for ’em? Cuz I am.
The whole suite (including our rehearsal dinner invites, bottom right):

Planning the rehearsal dinner has been so easy and fun. We are hosting the party in our own backyard (more on that soon), both to keep it casual and keep costs down. And we have a color scheme (I couldn’t help it, I had to use the red/aqua combo somewhere)! I have bought/found/borrowed almost everything we will need besides the foods and drinks. We aren’t sure about the dinner part yet, but dessert will be a make-your-own-vegan-sundae-bar, and I will personally make sure everyone eats one.
So far:

Tea lights (from Ikea via Freecycle), lava rocks (from Cost Plus)
A while back I posted that I have no idea what to do with my short, bobbed hair, specifically because I have a slight problem with putting stuff on my head.
Since then, I’ve been thinking, procrastinating, looking, thinking, looking, ignoring the situation, thinking, and looking some more for an appropriate solution. I don’t want to wear my hair like I do every day; it’s my wedding day! But my hair isn’t very long, and I am not having it professionally styled on the day-of, so I’m going to have to come up with some kind of solution that’ll have me looking pretty (and not “pretty stupid-looking”).
I’ve been doing a lot of my searching on Etsy. And for several weeks, I’ve been hemming and hawing over this next one. It’s got pearl, a little bit of netting (without being a full birdcage veil), and it’s not too big. But it’s a headband and… eh, I’m not good with those. They either squeeze my brain or they slip off, and they never actually hold any of my slippery, fine hair back.

Dear Marc & Lilly,
Please stop making cute white dresses and putting them on sale. In case you are not aware, I have already bought seven, yes 7, dresses for the rehearsal dinner and/or wedding day morning. You are making my wallet very upset.
xoxo,
Miss Gloss
P.S. For those of you who haven’t yet purchased a week’s worth of clothing for one day, please buy one of the cute dresses below and send me pictures so I can live vicariously through you.

Please save the date for a Bee get together at my apartment in the West Village on the afternoon of September 12th!
Mr. Bee and I are moving towards the end of September, so we wanted to take advantage of the backyard we’ve hardly used due to the unusually rainy year we’ve had. There will be barbecue! Fun! Smokey the cat (her sister Sparky will be hiding)! And… Mrs. Penguin will be here all the way from California too! Hope you can make it!
If there was ever a reason to call it a wedding “party” it would be when referring to the crazy cast that will be standing up for us on our big day. We have an eclectic group of lifelong friends, family members, sorority sisters, and other crazy characters. Nine on each side to be exact. Yeah, that’s a LOT! One best man, one maid of honor, seven bridesmaids, seven groomsmen, one junior bridesmaid, one junior usher and the cutest flower girl and ring bearer you’ve ever seen! Three ring circus is also a term that comes to mind when you think of this rowdy bunch!
Personal Images (this is almost everyone!)

Our next big wedding task was to purchase and make all of the floral arrangements. The farmer’s market is an awesome place to buy flowers for cheap if you go at the right time of year. My oldest brother-in-law (the one not getting married) and I managed to get all of reception flowers and greenery, seen in the picture above, for about $60. $60!

It’s been glaring at me from my to-do list since “6-8 months” before the wedding. Book Florist. I know I should do it, I know we need to decide, but there are just too many choices out there! On top of choosing what flowers, there is the DIY vs Florist choice to make. I’ve seen Bees and Brides in the hive make beautiful bouquets themselves and save lots of $$ doing so. Here are a few homemade bunches from the WB gallery:
Ed. note: Miss D has her hair trial in the morning and would LOVE your opinion! If you’re up late tonight, it would be awesome if you could let her know your thoughts!
~~~
Zah! I was supposed to be looking for hair inspiration over the past few weeks to prepare for the trial (which is this morning!). Instead, I’ve gone on hair hunts a few times and have seriously overwhelmed myself again. I’m all over the map! Structural chignons, curly loose updos, loose chignons, buns, high, low - ack!
Here’s the deal, I have an oblong head (it’s true, think Alanis Morrisette) and I need an August ready (read: humidity happy), head shaking, boogie down, birdcage wearable updo. Uh… right. Here are the few photos I’ve found that have struck a chord with me.
The fabulous Cherry Pie:
Hi hive! Remember me? No? Hmmm. Oh, that’s right… I’m MRS Latte now.
It’s been 3 weeks since the most amazing day ever (aka the wedding!) and a lot has happened since then. We went on our honeymoon to beautiful St. Lucia, I packed up and moved out to sunny California and we’ve been adjusting to married life (hooray to the end of long-distance!). It’s been a busy July but I’ll confess that it hasn’t stopped me from daydreaming about the wedding…
I’m so excited to share everything with you all! I promised to post about all of our projects and pre-wedding details so that’s where I’ll start. I’ll wait for our pro pics to recap all the events and details of the wedding day, but in the meantime, here are some teaser shots. I drool over these often (ok… a couple of times a day) and can’t wait to see the rest from our fabulous photographers, Todd Laffler and Walter Van Dusen.
Okay, actually it’s just two of them and they’re getting married today!
I just wanted to give a quick shout out to my bridesmaid Brooke and Mr. Lab’s groomsman Jimmy. We’ve all been friends for years and cannot believe their day has finally come! I will definitely post photos of their black and white with splashes of red wedding being held in a day chapel at a botanical garden.
Mr. S and I are not telling anyone our honeymoon destination until we return. Part Irish tradition (something about drinking mead in a hidey-hole for a month so our families can’t find us and break us up), part paranoia about people telling us that our trip sounds weird. Friends and family have been guessing for months, and some have come very, very close, but no one has pinpointed the exact location yet! I can say, due to time constraints, we are staying in the continental United States, leaving the day after the wedding, and returning six days later. I would love to take a two week tropical or European or Asian adventure, but when you run a small business or don’t get paid time off, that is virtually impossible.
The places we considered going, in order of consideration:
1. Ireland. When we first started planning, Mr. Sprinkle wanted to go to Ireland; Ireland, and only Ireland. I finally talked him into one week of Ireland followed by a week in Italy, but this was before we realized we only had one week to honeymoon. We don’t want to do any part of Europe in only one week, especially since Mr. S has never traveled overseas.
