So, following up on an idea I found many months ago, I finally got around to personalizing a special pair of wedding day socks for Mr Lighting. It is probably the easiest and sweetest gift you can give a groom - and perhaps each time he wears them he’ll remember that those were the socks he got married in!
To make this super easy project I bought some good quality socks with an argyle stitched pattern, used one sheet of think card, and a small length of ribbon.

Dances, you ask? Why yes, there was certainly a lot of dancing going on at the Quiche reception. As a matter of fact, the dancing began before the dancing was “supposed” to begin - during dinner! A slight mix-up with our Dell-to-MacBook playlist conversion resulted in a few songs that were, um, out of order. No worries!
When my and Mr. Q’s favorite Tim & Faith duet started playing, we knew we had to get up and karaoke. Yes, I quasi-karaoked at my wedding. SCARY! But fun.

I used my Red Stripe as my mic, Mr. Q used a butter knife… classy…

Mr. Sprinkle’s wedding gift is complete! When I had last week off from work, I did a lot of sneaking around. All of our finances have been merged for a while now, so it is pretty hard to hide things that I buy for him. In this case, I had to get very creative. One part of the gift was a little pre-wedding, de-stressing, overnight adventure.
When I dropped off Mr. Sprinkle for work last Thursday (we own only one car, so on days that I don’t teach, I take the mister to work so I can have wheels for the day!) I secretly placed an envelope into his lunch (yes, I pack his lunch every day! Healthy and inexpensive!) with bus fare and some instructions. I told him I would not have phone access for the day, but I would see him in the evening. It was all very mysterious.
After following his detailed directions, Mr. Sprinkle ended up in Beverly Hills, where I treated us to a night at the Avalon Hotel. See, it’s been 100 degrees and super smoky in our ’hood this past week. We live only a few miles from some crazy raging wildfires, so we have been breathing in raining ash and smoky smog haze for days. We also live in a 1920s bungalow with no air conditioning. Let’s just say, it’s been hard to concentrate or work!

That’s right. It’s so obvious, I made it my title. After seeing Miss Apple Cider’s post on her DIY out-of-town bags, I got right down to it. I’d been conflicted over where to find cheap, bulk bags to use for this project. The best ones I had seen were at Hobby Lobby—brown paper with handles for .50 cents per bag.

But then, Miss Apple Cider came along and introduced the hive to muslin bags from this website. I followed suit and ordered 50 5″ x 8″ bags.

After the toasts and dinner were through, it was time to dig in to our yummy cake!
Now, for all you curious souls, I have to tell you, there was absolutely no way that Mr. Powder Puff and I were going to be partaking in the cake smash tradition. In the months leading up the wedding, I had regularly schooled Mr. Powder Puff on the reasons why I hate the cash smash, and how there would be MAJOR trouble for him if he even thought of attempting it on our wedding day. So, like the sweet man that he is, he promised, nay, SWORE ON HIS LIFE that he would not smear that cake.

Getting a slice onto the plate in one piece was a big challenge!

Play nice, Mr. Powder Puff!

Aww, how sweet!

I have been in DIY mode the last 2 weeks. This weekend we worked on our out of town bags and they were all do-it-yourself style! I have been thinking about our out of town “bags” for months, and finally came up with a design and plan this weekend and made them! I am really excited to share them with you.
You may remember that I purchased this gorgeous paper lace from Etsy. I decided I will incorporate it into the out of town “bags”, which last week became out of town boxes.

I haven’t written any posts with tons and tons of beautiful pictures of what I might want our invites to look like. I also haven’t been stalking Etsy for the most stunning designs, or even playing in Adobe trying to make my own. In fact, I haven’t thought about our invites in over six months. Why? Am I a crazy bride who is leaving this very important piece of planning to the last minute? Nope! In fact, our invites have been sitting pretty in my dining room begging to be stuffed and sealed since February! And finally, FINALLY after all the months of waiting and anticipation, they are in the mail and have been received by most of our guests. So without further ado, its time for their Weddingbee debut!!
It kills me to blur out all the pretty print ![]()

And this bee — and her mister — did it this past weekend!
We’ve just finished packing up — the post-wedding cleaning up will hafta wait — for our dreamy dozen days in Italy. As much as I want to sit and replay every. single. moment. of our wedding (and the days leading up to it) with our nearests and dearests, I’m also giddy at the thought of having my husband (!!!) whisk me away. I couldn’t board the plane, though, without giving the hive a little something to buzz about until we get back…
We watched in awe as our friends and family came together Saturday to celebrate something so simple, and yet, so significant: our love. The day — 5AM ’til midnight — was filled with unexpected surprises, intense emotions… and amazing photography.
A couple months ago I did not even know what a manzanita branch was. Now I’m OBSESSED with them. I drive down the road and see fallen branches and think, ‘Can I turn that into a manzanita branch centerpiece?’ We all know the answer to that… no. But it does not stop me from really thinking about it. While we are at the park with our dog, Mr. Fro Yo is searching for walking sticks and other things to whip cactus with, and I’m looking for manzanita branches. It’s sad really, but they are so expensive I can’t even begin to think how much it would cost to have an arrangement on every table. And then after the wedding, what am I going to do with 16 manzanita centerpieces? Maybe I can settle and have them on one table? I don’t know, but I must have them somewhere. Look how gorgeous they are:

I totally used to be one of those fourteen-year-old girls who had a LiveJournal account with dozens of silly entries talking about everything from the boy I liked at the time to the poetry I’d been working on. So it makes perfect, logical sense for me to have an inner blogger that was just waiting to emerge! It’s only shocking to me how long it took for me to really discover the world of blogging as a grown-up!
I started my personal blog, Diary of a Manhattan Actress, about a year and a half ago, right after we moved into New York City. Mr. Star was working a lot and I was making a concerted effort to explore the city as much as possible. I saw some crazy things and often wished that I had more people to share them with who would understand my passion for the city. I also loved sharing some of the wacky experiences that you inevitably have when you’re working as a NY actress!
Why I decided to apply to Weddingbee:
I had been reading Weddingbee and yearning to become a bee blogger for months. I commented on posts and board threads every now and again, but mostly tried to keep my mouth shut, for fear of giving away any of our wedding details in the unlikely event that I became a bee! I kept talking about applying, but was always too afraid to try. Plus, I didn’t even have a wedding blog to show for myself at that point!
Finally, Pengy posted about the new generation of Weather bee icons that were being unveiled, and this just about pushed me over the edge. I wanted to be Miss Star SO BADLY!

Remember my flower belts post?
Well, my friend Lulu has found a great Etsy designer who makes flower pins! I can simply buy ribbons and pin these on to them to make belts!
From the Etsy shop of Accessoire
A couple of people asked on my last post about how the dance floor got so packed so quickly. I must say, the same thing happened at my younger brother’s wedding this summer - and didn’t happen at many of the other weddings we have attended. It seems that there are a few things that can make a difference.
1. The bride and groom must be happy.
If they are happy, it is much easier for everyone else to be happy.
2. The right music is crucial- and live music helps.
Of the three weddings we’ve attended with live music, 2 had tons of dancing. Of the DJ or iPod weddings, roughly 25% (2 of 8, I think) had a lot of dancing. Regardless of how the music is played, it should be music that everyone, from grandparents on down, should be able to tap their feet to. Our big band played standards from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s; my brother and his wife had a funk band that played classics from the 1970s through today. But in each case, most people knew most of the songs.

Mr. Mary Jane’s aunts threw me an awesome shower this past Saturday. I brought my camera, but I was having such a good time, I forgot to take a single photo! Until I get the photos from other attendees, you’ll just have to trust that there was plenty of this…

And many of these thoughtful things…
Remember when I shared with all of you my first attempt at a hair flower? Well, clay was not the right material after I realized how dangerous my head was (I usually poke Mr. Poodle in the eyes with whatever I have in my hair).
So, fabric was a really tempting option.
Miss Bear Cub and I wanted to try to make our own, so while I was visiting her (remember our BeeTV?) a few weeks a go, siii! We started playing with cute fabrics, pearls, feathers and beads.
This was our Monday morning project! Um, well… if you remember the amount of Pisco we had the night before (during our BeeTV broadcast), you can guess we were not in the best shape to craft! LOL. I did as much as I could, but I didn’t finish my flower. I left that cutie waiting for me while I researched for the beads and pearls I wanted for the center. And now finally, I’m done!!
{ My finished flower! }
Of course, as always, I wanted to share with all of you how I made mine, just in case you want to make your own.
