About Mrs. Sunbeam

My Preciousss

August 2nd, 2009 @ 2:15 pm by Mrs. Sunbeam

The story of Mr. Sunbeam’s ring, in his own words. “On the one year anniversary of our engagement I was surprised with a ring of my very own.

A few months back we looked around for our wedding bands, at the time it was just another thing to cross off the list. I am by no means a man of sparkle and fancy, so I was never that excited to pick out a piece of mannery. However, our first visit to the jeweler was promising. I saw a ring I liked, maybe enough to wear for the rest of forever. The problem was, it was just out of our price range, so we left the store without it.

Over the next month or so we stopped in a few times to look at it and try it on, but we never walked out with it. It was still a struggle to for me to spend money that much money to bejewel my hand. More time passed and it was May. On the anniversary of our engagement, Miss Sunbeam surprised me by taking me to the jeweler to get the ring. She had wanted to purchase it as a surprise and give to me like I had given her a ring one year ago, but the ring could not easily be, resized so they talked her out of ordering it without my hand present.

(you can see the texture a little better here)

Each ring is forged to order in the Mt. Doom of Switzerland, so it took four weeks to arrive. Most importantly, we were told if I bang it up in the first two years, the Swiss will refinish it for free and if my fingers ever plump, their trolls will reforge it.”

Can anyone spot a LOTR fan?? I’m was so sad I didn’t get to spring the ring on him for our anniversary, but he was still surprised when we ended up at the jewelry store after a nice celebratory brunch, but at least he won’t be stuck with a ring that doesn’t fit! Now if only I could find a wedding band for myself.

Did you present your FI with his ring in a special way?

Love the story from Mr. Sunbeams’ words! Welcome! I am loving your ring by the way (the rolls did a great job…) Sadly, I didnt have that great of a story giving my Mister his ring. We went to the store together, he tried on 2, and that was that. :)

LOVE IT! It’s so nice and simple yet elegant. Can you describe what it’s made of or where it’s from or a brand? I’d love to show my FI this!

I gave my man a ring before we were engaged. a simple silver handmade band that says i love you on the inside. Now we are engaged and getting married soon and he decided he wants to use that as him wedding band and wont even look at anything else. i just wish i had gotten him something a bit more durable

That is so sweet! I bought both of our rings while I was working abroad after we had dated for 1 month. I surprised him with them several months later, when I started to think he was shopping for e-rings. He was thrilled! Not sure how durable they’ll be, but for less than 20 bucks for the pair, they will get us through a few yrs till we are in a better financial situation :)

@alvina: Sure thing! It’s by Jacot Furrer and I think the finish is called pearlesque. We got his ring and my e-ring from Shreve in San Francisco.

How sweet, Sunbeam-It was nice to hear his side of things! Present my husband’s ring in a special way? Oh yeah, real special…”Are you SURE you want THIS ring cuz it’s too late once I get it sized & cleaned to change your mind.” I wear my mother’s ring & e-ring on my left hand (my own very simple e-ring on my right), & my husband wears my dad’s ring. So, here’s the catch…every time we look at his ring we both say, “by the power of Grayskull…” Yeah, so it’s huge & blingy & ostentatious & gangsterish & just plain whoa, but it was my dad’s. My mom had the most simple plain band & gorgeous vintage looking e-ring, but my dad..in Dr. Phil’s immortal words: “What were you thinking?” My guy is a sport to wear it. And high-five to my dad for my ma’s bling! Here’s a pic of all 4:

Very nice ring, the texture grabs the light nicely giving it a very unique look. Those brilliant earth rings are very LotRish!

I really like this ring! The texture is great, and that’s awesome that you got him to tell the story himself :).
@maegan: Have you considered buying an identical platinum ring, having it engraved, and surprising him? Platinum is the most durable precious metal, and it’s naturally white so it will have the same overall look, but that way he can be happy w/the similarity but YOU can be happy with the metal!

Oh my god! I LOVE Lord of the Rings and I LOVED his story! I may over-use the phrase “LOL!” but this actually DID make me laugh out LOUD! Good thing it’s just me and the kitty, though Mr. B is getting used to my Wedding Bee outbursts. :)

Awww love the ring! I wish I could surprise my FI with his ring, but I definitely wanted his opinion on it…buuuut go figure, the one that I picked out was the one he liked the most…I should have known that I know him well enough.
