Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. Boutonniere What??

August 3rd, 2009 @ 11:07 am by Mrs. Poodle

I have to confess that I had to learn how to pronounce that word, and even now, and after tons of training, I just can’t pronounce it!! Now, as you can guess, and because I knew so little about weddings (besides the obvious white dress, ceremony, and party), boutonnieres were one of the things I only recently came across.

At first, I saw all the normal ones with natural flowers (I have nothing against them), but I knew from the beginning that Mr. Poodle would not dig the “wearing a flower” thing. So, I started the search for ideas for different boutonnieres that would not include flowers in them, or at least, not so obvious flowers.

After I started making the purple roses for my bouquet, I started thinking about ways to add some more green, and in honor of the Irish part of Mr. Poodle, I thought it would be nice to add clay shamrocks for the boys’ boutonnieres.

Anyway, here some of the ones I’ve found:

There are a lot of really cute ideas out there!! I can’t wait to start working on Mr. Poodle’s - it’s going to be fun! smile011

I’ve seen couples mixing materials in their bouquets and boutonnieres,. What you think about them? Where are you getting yours?

The top picture is cute — would be fun for a St. Patty’s Day wedding — and I love the herb that’s among your inspiration shots as well.

I absolutely love the first button one from etsy that you posted! How adorable! It would be so fitting for a whimsical wedding.

P.S. It’s pronounced boo-ton-ear. Much easier without the french spelling starring at you! I work in a flower shop and we just call them bouts (boots).

These are great photos. I can’t wait to see how these turn out. Weren’t you working on your clovers during BeeTV the other night?

Lots of great inspiration. Can’t wait to see what you are doing. And I love mixed materials in bouts and bouquets. Makes them so much more interesting in my opinion.

I love your inspiration choices! I’m partial to Princess Lasertron’s stuff… I think she’s amazing!

We didn’t do a traditional flower bout either. My husband is a HUGE fly fishing addict, so he actually made his own bout, which resembled a fly on a hook. He tied all the bouts for the groomsmen! It was such a fun way to incorporate one of his favorite past-times into our day.

ms poodleh! Thanks so much for the great chat that you and Ms. BC had on Saturday night! I loved the green clay clovers you were making! Could you make them into a bout like pic number seis?!

I didn’t use the standard flowers either. I ordered some felt and button bouts. from etsy. I love them and they are going to go awesome with my button, paper, and felt flower bouquet!

Believe you’ll get the hassle from some of the people in your life about how it’s not “traditional” or what not, but you know what it’s your day not theirs….at least that’s what I keep telling myself:) Good Luck!

That first bout is my favorite! I love the new tread w/ mixed materials for bouts… Mr Frenchie didn’t want flowers in his bout so we looked around at other options too.

Just call them bouts (”boots”)! I heart the shamrock bouts–I am 3/4 Irish myself. (We spent a good part of our honeymoon there.) The first one is great, but maybe a bit chintzy? If he isn’t crazy about flowers, he probably won’t be crazy about feathers, but men know the drill with flowers/feathers on the wedding day. I love guinea feathers, so I made my husband wear both! The clay (too heavy to pin on?) & paper ones are so beautiful! You really picked a selection of awesome bouts! **Oh & newsflash, until BeeTV, I had NO idea you were Chilean! I though you were an American living there. I mean you write in flawless English. I guess I missed the posts where you say “MY country.” Tee hee.

I like the green one by Jurine.

We’re not doing bouttonnieres at all. My fiance just isn’t into the idea, so they guys are just having red pocket squares. Fine with me (and cheaper! :-) )

I love these! I want to do clovers for my Irish background but the St. Patty’s day connotation is tricky. So we are thinking the clay hydrangeas from Etsy are the way to go.
