A Juggler’s Workout

August 4th, 2009 @ 12:46 pm by Mrs. Sunbeam

A Juggler's Workout : wedding fitness Ourbik

Mr. Sunbeam and I used to belong to a gym. Strangely enough, about 5 months into our engagement we canceled our membership. Mr. Sunbeam’s job was no longer just down the road from our gym and I wasn’t motivated to go alone. Besides working full time and wedding planning, I am a part time student working on a Master’s degree, and there’s a lot of juggling for time going on here. So we quit. But wait, isn’t that a completely contra-wedding thing to do!? Sounds like it, but we didn’t give up on fitness!

We now bike to work! We’ve been biking now nearly 8 months and we’re not talking an easy coast to work sort of a bike ride either, I mean, this is San Francisco, have you seen our hills?

Buying bikes was probably one of the best decisions we’ve made. It’s an automatic (given it’s not raining) 20-30 minute cardio workout 5 mornings and evenings a week. And it’s a lifestyle change for sure since we’ll keep this up long after the wedding. Cardio galore!

What about strength training and warding off girly granny arms and what not? We came up with a plan for that too. Enter Netflix!

Hello Jilian! You ladies inspired me to get the 30 Day Shred, and man, can it be tough! Mr. Sunbeam actually does it with me, too. Of course he’s following the advanced maneuvers, while I struggle to beat down the granny arms with my 3 pound weights. We’re also trying to eat better. Remember those granola bars I spoke of? Here is the recipe!

I was going to do a cooking demo, but it’s really not that hard. The bars are sorta crumbly because there’s not a lot of sugar involved. Also note that some peanut butters want to burn on the stove top. I did a last minute switch from Jif to MaraNatha Organic Peanut Butter and it burned. I had used another brand of Organic Peanut butter previously that did fine, so just be cautious.

We’re certainly not being hardcore about our diets. I’m the girl that will have a chocolate cookie after eating a salad for lunch, and our time with Jilian has lessened, but we’ve *promised* ourselves to pick it back up! At least we’re still biking to work.

Have you made any lifestyle changes as you try to get wedding fit? Miss Lab’s posts have been inspirational and I’ve tried to step up working out with weights. Has anyone been a source of inspiration for you to step up your workouts?

I’ve definitely been conscious of eating much healthier as the wedding approaches…good thing, because late nights spent planning mean I’m not always at the gym in the morning any more! :-(

Good for you guys for being so committed to your biking workouts!

You should DEF rent Jillians new DVD’s, she has a 45 minute weights one! Also, have you tried shredding levels 3-2-1 in a row - it’s amazing!

I should totally get a bike. I’m a little bit clumsy, so I’m afraid of biking in traffic. I need to step up my workout regime (and my eating habits) too!

I bought a bike a year ago for that purpose but couldn’t get into a routine of riding it everyday! I definitely want to look into Jillian’s DVDs though

Oh my gosh, biking to work - you are awesome! I have a 2 mile walk/bike to campus for grad school, and I’m toying with the idea of buying a bike to ride to class…just have to figure out how to get that laptop and textbooks strapped on with me…haha!
