I’m probably going to book my hair trial for two-and-a-half weeks or so from today. That’ll be about three weeks before the wedding. My hairstylist, Lauren, is so amazing that I don’t have one doubt in my mind I’ll be using her on our wedding day. As a bonus, she does makeup too! I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done with my hair if I hadn’t found Lauren. Mrs. Kitten introduced me to her a few months ago, and I never looked back. She took my hair from a poofy and dried-out-at-the-ends bird’s nest to a layered and evenly colored shiny masterpiece.
I only wish I could be as decisive about my hairstyle as I am about my stylist. Ever since getting engaged (wow, was it really a year and a half ago?), I’ve imagined wearing my hair down in long, flowing curls. Hell, that is why I have been growing my hair out for months on end and taking prenatal vitamins like it’s some sort of religion. This what I had in mind.
Or maybe this more natural version with bangs.
While hair down is still an option, I’ve recently considered other hairstyles. I have to admit, it was these photos from Weddingbee Pro that had me straying from the idea of long waves in the first place.
It’s hard to see exactly what this hairstyle looks like under the flower, but it looks to me like some type of low, messy bun. Of course, my version would have bangs. They’re not going anywhere.
Finally, and most recently, I fell in love with the following hairstyle from last month’s issue of Glamour. It doesn’t hurt that the photo was taken by Patrick Demarchelier (and that the model has the most enviable eyebrows I’ve ever seen).
I love how messy and yet romantic it is. The double headband thing adds volume and interest. My hair would have no problem maintaining that level of volume—it’s got texture, I tell you! I’m not sure what I’d do with my bangs for this style. They could either get swept back under the front headband (they’re pretty long at this point), or I could just wear them down.
I’m planning on taking all of these photos to Lauren on the day of my trial to get her opinion. She’s not afraid to tell me when something won’t work on me!
Oh, one other thing: I have to decide once and for all whether I’m going to be wearing my glasses on our wedding day. Right now, I’m thinking of wearing contacts for the ceremony and portraits and then slipping into my glasses right before the reception. When I’m actually wearing makeup, I prefer myself with contacts. However, I’d say I wear glasses 95% of the time. I want to avoid glare from my glasses during the majority of the wedding photos. But I think popping the glasses on for the reception will be good because I’ll feel more like myself. Not to mention, my eyes get crazy-dry when I’m wearing contacts.
Anyway, the glasses-versus-contacts decision is important because a hairstyle that looks good with contacts might look kinda weird with glasses. Not to mention the glasses and headband combo usually gives me a pounding headache.
Any other brides out there planning on getting married in your glasses? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
