More Bridal Bling…

August 6th, 2009 @ 12:20 pm by Mrs. Gloss

With a little prompting from the State of Massachusetts, we picked up our wedding rings last week. How did they prompt us, you wonder? They decided it would be a good idea to raise taxes by 25% on August 1st. We had already met with our jeweler and he worked his magic, making us beautiful rings, but we decided to leave them there as long as possible since:

  1. I knew I would wear it around the house, and
  2. We figured it would be safer than to have them hanging out in our apartment.

I tried on just about every ring he had… at least twice :), ya know – just to make sure. He would be creating my ring using the platinum bar my grandmother had given me and when he was writing down the specs, he noted there were 13 diamonds…

Me: Um, excuse me – did you say there were 13 diamonds?
Jeweler: Yes
Me: ‘Oh, hmm. Do you think that’s bad luck?
Jeweler and Mr. Gloss stare at me with puzzled faces.
Jeweler: We could do 12?, or make them go all the way around?
Me: No, I don’t want them to go all the way around- I need to know which side is the top.
Jeweler and Mr. Gloss stare at me with puzzled faces… again.
Mr. Gloss: If they went all the way around you wouldn’t have to worry about ‘the top’.
Me: Yes but I NEED there to be a top and a bottom, so I know it’s on correctly.
Lightbulb turns on over my head – ‘LETS ADD TWO!, THAT’LL BE 15! ITS OUR WEDDING DATE, ITS PERFECT!’.

There may have been an eye-roll here coming from Mr. Gloss, but I didn’t care – I was too excited! :)

Mr. Gloss was also super picky about his ring. He wanted something simple, but not too simple, and absolutely NO BLING. I swear he was more difficult to please than I was. We left without him deciding on a ring and after numerous email conversations between himself and the jeweler, we ended up with a fairly thick band in a brushed finish with polished, tapered edges in Palladium.

Whose wedding band was more difficult to find for you?

Wow! I love your rings! That is similar to what I wanted. :)

Both of us have been having trouble finding our rings. We’ve been to at least 3 jewelry stores.

Beautiful! I’m a fan of pave and shared prong mismatched rings :-)

Haha, you are too cute! I’m glad you were able to avoid the number “13″ (I think it might be bad luck too).

They look really nice. My ring was harder to find than his.

Hehe, and one more thing: Isn’t MA a Commonwealth, not a state? ;-) I lived on Commonwealth Avenue in grad school…only reason I remember that!

I’m really liking your wedding band up against your three-stone ring. I have a three stone and trying to find a band for it has been one of the hardest parts of wedding planning.

I like to know what’s top and bottom and what is front and back! Very pretty!

That’s smart, waiting until the last minute. Our first pair of wedding bands got stolen when our house was broken into. :(

So this post made me realize that I don’t know how many diamonds are in my wedding band, so I counted. And it’s 7 - which is our wedding date!

@Miss Mouse: I’m so sorry - that’s awful! :(

Ooh la la! Love it. Your wedding band is very similar to the one I wanted, but didn’t get in order to be budget friendly :)

Fortunately for us, we were able to swing a little deal by paying cash so that we didn’t pay tax..woo hoo!!

…oh, and you will want to wear them around the house all the time, I do!

Those are so pretty. I like the way you lined up all three! I had to count how many diamonds I have on mine (14) - I never thought to check! Guess I’m glad it’s not 13!

They’re beautiful, Gloss! I too feared the 13, but ended up stuck with it as our wedding date and it turned out perfect. Silly superstitions! :o)

Your ring is exactly like mine. Except mine has some diamonds and the filligrain pattern on the sides too - making it really hard to find a wedding band because I don’t want the sides of my e-ring covered up. I wish I had gotten one like yours instead so that I could find a band easier!
