Did you guys read this story about a Chinese groom who purchased for his bride a wedding dress adorned with 9999 silk roses and a 1.2 MILE-long train?
Three astounding facts:
1) The train was so long that it took GUESTS more than three hours to lay out the gown. (And to think all we entertained our guests with before the ceremony were our programs.)
2) The bride reportedly “laughed and cried at the romantic gesture.” (Yes, I’m sure she cried. Much like I laughed and cried the day my grandfather gave me a white knee-length puffy coat pimped out with marabou feathers and sequins. This day, by the way, was not back in the day, when I was a tutu-wearing, pink-loving five year old, but actually last Christmas.)
3) The gown cost around $5800. (I think that buys you a veil at Kleinfeld’s.)
Awesome? Or spectacular wedding fail?

I saw that yesterday and almost posted about it — glad you did! I think that’s a pretty epic fail.
Wow Fail!! Can you imagine not being able to move in your own wedding dress!? Forget about walking any isles. What did she do, show up and get dressed in front of everyone. Please don’t tell me she got dressed and had to have her train ride in a limo behind her when she rode to the ceremony.
That is HILARIOUS. I hope she had someone to cut the train off for the reception. Can you imagine the bustle???

I don’t understand the symbolism behind the gesture. “See, bride . . . I can buy you lots of really really long stuff after we get married.”

that would be so awful. this picture is funny to laugh at but I would have a bridal breakdown to end them all.
ahh…just read the story. he did it to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records (and because he loves her, of course!)
“‘Both the length of the dress and the number silk roses pinned on the wedding dress can make history,’ the report quoted groom Zhao Peng as saying.
Zhao, who has applied to Guinness World Records, said he was inspired after seeing a story on the previous record holder in Romania, where the dress measured just over 1.5 km”
I love chapel/cathedral veils but this is too funny. I hope it was detachable! :o)
wait, is that a picture of the veil?! can you imagine, you’ll be walking by your own veil as you walk back down the aisle!

This is just crazy!!! And I just have a lot of why’s floating around in my head! WHY?!!!
Mar I looked at the links and these brides and grooms are just crazy and bizarre!! Again why! And the 2nd one with the heavy dress…why would you want it to take you 8 hours to get into a dress!! Wedding planning and wedding days are stressful enough!
Seriously, if anyone offers you this, TAKE THE CASH.
My question is, What in the world do you do with all of that material afterwards? Did it double as the reception tent?

Um…all I can ask is, WHY?! (Besides getting in the Guinness book, of course…)
@mar: Naturally. What goes better with a 1.2 mile train than wings? You can’t walk, so you’d better fly! As for the girl with the heavy dress, what REALLY shocked me about that article was that she was 16!! Yikes.

Haha, I saw this last night and I was stuck on the fact that the groom put this idea in motion. And the world thinks BRIDES are the only crazy ones when it comes to wedding planning.
Bigtime fail… I mean… what was she thinking? Did they find this funny? Classy? I don’t even know! It’s neither, I don’t know why but I just think this is ridiculous more than anything!
Epic Fail. I mean, I get wanting to be in the GBWR, but I’m not sure that is quite the way to do it.

Never in my life would I want to attempt a train longer than my own legs! I vote a fail! I think doing something simple can go a long way…and speaking of long way, how long did it take her to walk down the aisle with that!? Insane! That must have put her in such a dilemma. Did she get dressed at the alter? =) I’m actually in quite a pickle…I want to have a live Chicago Wedding Band at the reception, but my finace just wants to stick to a DJ. How can I convince him that the live music will be a lot more lively and fun? I actually think his concern is budget. Maybe we need to cut the budget from other areas?
