Miss Poodle's Picture
Miss Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Green, Grass, Fruits and Even Vegetables

Yes! I love them all! There are so many ways to save and be eco-friendly in the wedding planning process. Here’s some of my favorite eye candy smile021:

Would you consider having fruits and vegetables for your centerpieces?

We will most definitely be having “alternative” centerpieces. I started with lemons and limes and have moved on to grass with flowers (like 1 or 3). I love them all and am so torn!

Wow, that last picture is unlike anything I’ve ever seen — very different! :-)

Ok, I may be missing something here, but how is having apples considered eco-friendly?

I am considering it! I think we are going to have lime slices in the ceterpieces for the green color splash!

Wheatgrass is the main component of our centerpieces. It’s so easy and inexpensive - and then I can feed it to the chickens after the wedding!

i thought of using bowls of different fruit at first.. and naming the tables after the fruit too.. but the groom wasn’t as keen.

@lou, apples could be considered eco-friendly because after the wedding they could be put to use (eaten) instead of thrown away. They are especially eco-friendly if they are local and/or organic. I’m not sure how flowers for center-pieces/bouquets are grown, but I’m guessing that most are conventionally grown with chemical pesticides/herbicides and are often flown long distances to that we can enjoy the out-of-season flowers that we love (NOT eco-friendly at all).

We are using pinneapples as our centerpieces. Locally grown, so we support the economy. And a tasty treat after the wedding!

I’m looking into grass and moss utilized in the centerpieces, so I can have a few (read: lower price) orchids.

That makes so much sense, even growing (not cut) flowers. Not just for being green — I felt so bad to see people cleaning up after my wedding and throwing out my flowers! I really hoped some would get taken home.

I love the idea of the fruit because it can be eaten but I am concerned with the “recyclable value.” A few months ago I saw a wedding where they planted their centerpieces in their garden after the wedding. I thought this was a great idea but we’ll be in an apartment so it won’t be too helpful. I like the fruit idea but most guests won’t be taking fruit back to their rooms. Anyone have good ideas that would work better for us?

I love wheatgrass! On of my best friends has painted little tin soup cans of different shapes and sizes and grew wheat grass in them. She tied ribbon on them and put them in groups of three down the table…they were the cutest centerpieces!

Green/red apples and lemons are one of the best ideas.

I love the poppies in the first photos! The cuts of meat on the cow card was a little different…
We are gluing paper flowers onto branches for ours.

Ha, never would have thought of using asparagus in a centerpiece. I really like all the wheatgrass options though!

We used wheat grass as well and it was fabulous! Easy to grow and it went home with a lot of guests. We learned one thing to note: if guests take it home after about a week and a half it attracts mass amounts of fruit flies so keep it outdoors.

We are using green apples in our centerpieces. One of our colors is bright green and it fits in with the time of year of our wedding. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

Ahh, so pretty. I really love the purple potted flowers. (Of course, I am partial since purple is my favorite color. ) I also like the asparagus arrangement, so cool.

We’re doing lemons, limes, and tangerines! I am so excited! I love the simple colors. We’re using random vases, bowls, etc aquired at yard sales and estate sales. Can’t wait!

I love this look! I really wanted grass centerpieces, but the fiance thinks they look awful. How sad, huh? Although I haven’t given up! I’m working on him and we will see how it works out!

Love the potted wheatgrass and the white carrots!! I think going to a fancy organic grocery store and picking out really unique veggies would be a fun way to decorate.
