Hair Foliage

August 7th, 2009 @ 2:17 pm by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

I always knew I wasn’t going to be a veil bride. It’s just not me. Then, I went back and forth between a hair flower and headband. In the end, the flower won. I just couldn’t back away from the floral prettiness that is organza-and-taffeta petals and blush- and ivory-pearls.

So, as every other bee has ever done, I searched Etsy for some hair flowers I thought suited my look. I stumbled upon this beauty by Portobello and was pretty keen on the center of the flower and its petals (sans the feathers and birdcage veil).

I’d bookmarked Mrs. Quiche’s flower-maker, Muscari Designs, way back when and kept returning to their Minnesota Bloom. They were all sold out but I thought I might be able to finagle my way into a custom flower.

I wanted to combine the look of the Minnesota Bloom with her set of two flowers, the Sweet Peas.

Easter at Muscari Designs agreed to blend the two styles for me, using blush-colored pearls and fabric, and here’s what she came up with. She sent me three images of different samples she made.

I ended up asking her to take the velvet out from behind the pearls. The third of the above was my favorite so she took note that I liked the blush fabric and created these lovelies for me…

I have two of these adorable flowers. They’re both pretty small and would fit beautifully with a half-up, half-down style, trailing down the back. My hair trial with the new stylist is coming up this weekend and since I have the hair flowers in-hand, they’ll be making their debut.

Did you choose a hair flower, headband, veil or other hair accessory? Fill the hive in on who you got it from and which it is! We can always use suggestions.

I’m using flowers I bought at David’s Bridal to match my dress.

Your flowers are so beautiful, Miss CB! Easter did a fabulous job! For our ceremony, I wore a mantilla-style veil that matched the lace on my dress.

I had my hair half-up and pinned it back with my “borrowed” - my friend’s hairpin that she used for her wedding. I went sans veil and instead placed bobby pins with “pearls” on the tips in my hair. (My mom bought them from Claire’s.) It worked out PERFECT!

I opted to go with a real flower. But I love, love, love everything I find on Etsy and see here. Can’t wait to see yours in action. :)

I’m going with a veil, but I love the flower look! I may have to figure out some way to do both!

Those flowers look amazing! I ended up making my own, with buttons and satin. I’m glad I did, but it’s not on par with those!

I’m debating buying a hair flower. The one you have is gorgeous! I’m not a veil kind of girl, but I feel like I need to have something in my hair!

I made a hair flower with the tiniest little wisp of a mini birdcage veil. I wanted something veil-y but not all over my face.

I love the idea of two smaller flowers! Also, the blush color is so pretty.

i want to do both a veil and hair flower. since i don’t plan on wearing the veil after the ceremony, the flower will be a nice stand in.

i’ve been waffling on making the flower myself or buying one. i might practice a bit more though

I want a veil for the ceremony but since its not practical for the reception I was thinking of something like a flower or my MOH made a peacock feather headband for my engagement party that I am thinking of repurposing since she made it with feathers from her families birds.

I haven’t gotten that far in the decision making process….but I do love your flowers! I think they would look great with a half up

I love the first one WITH the veil. You made an inspired choice getting rid of the velvet & using blush fabric! I got my beauty from PresumptuousMe on Etsy. Great work at affordable prices.

that’s gorgeous! i’m with you about removing the velvet patch.

as mentioned before, i made mine out of faux flowers at Ikea. sounds horribly cheap, i know ($2), but it still looked fab in the pictures :P

These are absolutely gorgeous…I love that they are small in size…some of the hair flowers I see are so darn huge! I can’t wait to see how they look in your hair!
