So, I know that the reception usually gets tons of attention, what with the booze flowing and the fancy footwork on the dance floor. However, early on I identified our wedding ceremony as the most important part of our wedding day and tried mightily to ensure that we didn’t lose sight of the real reason we had all gathered together on the golf course that sunny afternoon.

Our officiant, the lovely and charming Rev. Susan Ross was an absolute dream and everything we could have hoped for in an officiant. She gave us the latitude to create a ceremony that was uniquely “us”. We chose to craft a highly personal ceremony while incorporating traditional marriage vows.
She opened the ceremony with a few lovely words and transitioned into the rose ceremony. We had never heard of this before, but fell in love with the idea of honoring our mothers each with a classic long stemmed rose and thanking them for all they had done for us over the past 29 years.
We also incorporated a hand binding as well as the ubiquitous unity sand ceremony.
As you may have picked up on by now, the Mister and I are pretty traditional people. While the idea of writing our own vows was very enticing, there was something so beautiful about reciting the same words our parents and grandparents had delivered to each other many years before us.
A poem by Roy Croft, a reading of our favorite Beatles song, I Will, and a simple prayer rounded out our simple yet magical ceremony.
Around this time my gorgeous cousin (who happened to be part of our little house party) made the rounds with a big ol’ basket of petals, encouraging our guests to grab a handful or two in anticipation of the grand finale.
And then, Rev. Ross uttered the sweetest words I have ever heard: “…with the power vested in me by the GREAT STATE of TEXAS, I am delighted to pronounce you Husband and Wife! Mr. L, you may now kiss your bride.”
And kiss me he did!!
As Sweets and Josh played Penny Lane we retreated back down the grassy aisle under a shower of ivory petals and were completely overjoyed, oblivious to the world around us.
