Mrs. Martini's Picture
Mrs. Martini, New Jersey Age and Occupation: 30, Telecom by day, Superhero by night Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Investments & Finance by day, Hip hop dancer by night Engagement Date: May 24, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 18, 2008 Venue: The Venetian About Me: Things that make me happy: Haribo Happy Cola gummies, TV shows on DVD, buying books although I never read them, 80’s rock ballads, ramen, and of course Mr. Martini! He is the calm, logical and number crunching finance guy. I can’t even multiply double digit numbers in my head and I am so indecisive that trying to choose between light green or slightly lighter green paper stresses me out (Wedding planning is going to be soooo much fun). We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!
About Mrs. Martini

Some of you may have read Mrs. Bee’s post about the craziest vendor response ever. It was totally nuts indeed, but my post isn’t to talk about crazy customer service emails. I thought it would be fun to explain why we needed the punch in the first place.

My friend C needed help with making her escort cards. She had a great idea but she needed a few hands to pull it off. About four of us agreed to help out on a specific day. When weeks passed and the stamp was nowhere in site, C panicked at the thought that she was going to have four helpers at her apartment with nothing much to help with. The stamp was a huge part of the escort cards and with the wedding date so close, it would have been difficult to reschedule another meet up.

In the end everything worked out great, even though it wasn’t exactly what we were looking to achieve.

The original stamp C had ordered was this one:

The reason she chose a tree punch is because it is similar to the tree that was letterpressed on her wedding invitations.

Because the stamp didn’t exactly work out with the crazy vendor, C ended up ordering the stamp from another website, but unfortunately we didn’t get it in time. We sent her fiance J out to Michaels to see if he could find a replacement stamp, and he came back with a couple of leaf stamps from Martha Stewart (Go J!).

C’s idea was to use rocks (purchased beforehand) as escort cards. We wrote out a name and table number using gold markers onto one side of the rock.

(I apologize for the blurry picture!)

Then we punched out leaves using the leaf punch and 8×11 double sided adhesive sheets.

On the back of the escort rocks, we placed the leaves on the rocks in various numbers and positions using one side of the adhesive. This was a smaller rock, so we only used two leaves.

We then peeled off the other side of the adhesive, exposing the sticky side.

Immediately, we placed a sheet of gold leaf on the adhesive.

Using a paint brush, we carefully brushed away the excess gold, exposing just the leaf stamp. Here’s a tip - try not to do this right next to an air conditioner. Gold leaf is very light and tends to blow around easily. You will probably wake up the next morning with gold between your teeth and in your nostrils, like we did (kidding!).

It’s very hard to see in the horrible pictures I took, but the gold leaves came out awesome and added a really nice touch to the escort rocks. It would have been nice to have been able to have used the tree, but in the end it was pretty difficult to punch out something so elaborate onto the thick adhesive paper anyway, so the leaves ended up being a perfect replacement. Since her wedding is now less than a week away, I’m looking forward to seeing her escort rocks in action!

Did something during your wedding planning go terribly wrong, but then worked out even better in the end?

Those are so pretty! I wish we had thought about using gold leaf as accents for our stuff. Not sure what we would have used it for exactly but its so shiny and pretty that I mean it needs to be used on something–I still have 3 months I could add it somewhere!

I think those came out nice. She wanted the tree, but that might have been too big for the small rocks. Good job!
