Honeymooning in Egypt

Honeymooning in Egypt : wedding honeymoon Egypt

Source

So, it’s decided. Mr Lightning and I have settled on Egypt for our honeymoon. We tossed around the idea of a budget holiday in Paris and Rome, but in all honesty, we’d be eating 2-minute noodles from our suitcases if we went with this option.

Egypt had been the original plan, but just as it was with everything else, it was hard to make a decision.

We’ve been keeping an eye on the travel specials and already, quite a few good deals have come our way. We’re mainly looking to visit Cairo for a day or two, and then traveling on a Nile cruise for three nights to Luxor. There are also some packages that include a few nights at the Red Sea, but we won’t have much time to play with as I’ve already requested leave for the wedding.

Egypt flights and packages are very reasonable, and the Nile cruise is on a full board basis, making this an ideal option for us because we’re on a budget. We’ve even found a package that includes a hot air balloon ride over Luxor, home to the Valley of the Kings.

I’ve been asked why we haven’t considered island getaways, the traditional choice for honeymooners. For us, it comes down to the fact that we live in a beautiful city known for its beaches, and I’ve already traveled to some of the world’s most beautiful island destinations. I’m quite honestly not a beach person, and I have my fair skin to keep in mind (coming home the colour of a tomato does not strike me as a relaxing holiday).

We seek adventure and intrigue for our honeymoon. You can only visit so many of the Earth’s beautiful places in a lifetime, so we’re going to make every trip count. I’m sure we’ll find what we’re looking for in the sights, culture, and history of Egypt.

Are you going on a more adventurous honeymoon? Where are you traveling to and how did you decide on that particular locale?

Well, we are thinking of heading to South Africa, actually! So that is sort of exotic for us. I might hit you up with questions at some point! :)

OH that sounds amazing! We haven’t decided yet but are definitely not beach people either so I understand your thinking; however, I have literally be nowhere so for me our honeymoon will be very important choice. I’m curious to see what the others gals have to say for their choices. Maybe some of them will give me ideas.

Oh honey! I am jealous. Although you realize that you are going to come home the color of tomato soup anyway…just with more interesting vacation stories.

OH, how fun! We’re touring the Redwoods in Norther California. This was based on our budget and I am so excited we get to start our honeymoon after a 2 hour drive!
I like your attitude on making all your trips count, someday we’ll get to Egypt!
Thanks for sharing!

We’re not doing an island getaway honeymoon — we’ll be visiting Rome, Tuscany and a few other (surprise for the hive!) spots…and I can’t wait!

You are going to have a BLAST!! How exciting! I live in Dallas, Texas, USA and we had a King Tut exhibit come to town, supposedly it will never leave Egypt again so it was a big deal. It was so much fun, and the intricacies of all the carvings were spectacular! You see a gold piece and you thing it is only that but if you get up super close you see these crazy tiny networks of hieroglyphics! It is INSANE! What history!

I definitely know how you feel with people wondering why you’re not choosing a more traditional beachy getaway, because my FI and I are going to Tokyo for our honeymoon. Instead of people saying how cool it would be or being excited for us, they respond with a puzzled look, “Why?” It’s frustrating. Nevertheless, I am excited for you!

I’m an egypt culture nut- can’t get enough of it! I’ve been to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and I love it, and I’ve spent hours upon hours in the Egyptian artifacts section of the Louvre in Paris. I used to be obsessed with the stories about pyramids and the egyptian gods and goddesses as a child, so I’m very excited for you! I think it is so wonderful that you’re honeymooning here!

We visited several islands in Greece for our honeymoon and had the most wonderful time. It was a dream come true!

Egypt is one of the places I’d love to visit, next to an African Safari trip.

i’ve traveled to egypt before. i booked with a very reasonably priced local agent, amani [contour100ATgmailDOTcom] who came highly recommended on tripadvisor her company took care of us really well. we were in cairo, did the nile cruise from luxor, and also spent a night in the white desert. you can tell her that sarah and stephen from the 9/08 trip referred you.

Egypt is our top choice too! That is our “if we don’t go over our wedding budget” destination… with the cheaper alternative being British Columbia. I’m excited to hear all about your planning and get some good ideas! :)

As Florida natives, we get to see the beach year round. Instead, we’re opting for the World Cup in South Africa! We are both huge sports fans and we actually had our WC tickets before we were engaged. We saw it as the perfect excuse for a “honeymoon” after we were engaged. When you have the beach at your fingertips, its a little fun to see something you don’t get to see everyday. And we’re always up for a good adventure.
