Invites for the Big RD

August 11th, 2009 @ 5:12 pm by Mrs. Stiletto

Have you created your “Mad Men” avatar yet? When Mr. S suggested that we create avatars and use them on the rehearsal dinner, I thought he had lost it… just a bit. But once I placed that cartoon martini in my hand, I was sold!

Once we had digitized ourselves, Mr. S laid out a postcard with the little rehearsal dinner poem that I’ve seen everywhere on the ‘net. It might be a wee bit cheesy, but I didn’t have the patience to try and be clever on my own.

We ordered our postcards from Zazzle because they let you order any quantity you want (we only needed 15), and they came last week - I was so excited to get these out the door!

Unfortunately, the back was laid out all wonky and could not be sent as they were. Sadness! So it was DIY to the rescue. I laid out a little message and printed it out on white cardstock that was a bit smaller than the postcards. I then cut out green cardstock and glued one on top of the other (I needed the green to keep the origina wording on the card from showing through… and it adds a nice little pop!). Instead of sending these as postcards, we’ll just drop them into white envelopes and be done with it.

I know we didn’t truly need to create rehearsal dinner invites - our dinner will be small and our friends and family would have had no problem with a simple email. But I felt the need to add just one more project onto the pile, and these were (relatively) simple and fun!

How are you spreading the word about your rehearsal dinner?

I love my Mad Men avatar! I had to make two: one for day, and one for evening. The fashions were just too fabulous to do one! ;) I love that you used it for the RD invites.

I JUST sent ours out yesterday. I used http://www.mypunchbowl.com to make them - it’s like evite - and I loved it! It’s all free and ended up looking pretty cool. I’ve asked a few guests and they said it was easy so I’d definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to use email. A huge perk is that since it’s so easy to RSVP most people did it on the spot. It’s been out less than 24 hours and I already have probably half of the responses back!

@MsPeanutButter: it’s a new-ish AMC tv show set in the 60’s in the advertising district of new york. The 3rd season starts next week!

Hadn’t seen the poem either, you’re allowed some cuteness at wedding times. Nicely done.

Oh, I like that! I printed vintage Greetings from Kentucky postcards and just wrote a personal invitation. Kind of almost-neat.
