Aside from just getting my makeup figured out for the wedding, I was especially excited for the trial because my makeup artist is my very good friend Janelle, who is an artist and regional manager for Laura Mercier. She’s done lots of weddings and knows what does and doesn’t work. I’ve known Janelle since I was in high school, and her husband, David is the officiant for our wedding. Isn’t that fun?
I’ve had some interesting experiences in the past with makeup artists. They’ve done my makeup so heavy and dark that I look like a different person, or people don’t know quite what to do with my 1/2 Chinese eyes. They are Asian shaped but not… yeah, I know it’s confusing. Mr. D still talks about a sorority formal in college where the makeup artist had my eyeliner out to my ears.
On a daily basis I wear a little bit of Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, some eye shadow, blush and mascara. For lips, I generally wear Chapstick or a neutral gloss. When I go out, everything is just a bit darker and I wear concealer and translucent powder. It’s simple, quick and natural. However, for my wedding, I want to look like myself but don’t want to look like I have no makeup on at all. Sometimes even when I have my makeup done for going out, in pictures I look like I have nothing on.
Going to meet with Janelle I just felt comfortable and excited.
She knows me well and knows what I look like on a day to day basis. Plus, it was a good chance to catch up on life. She does an amazing job at makeup so I could relax and feel at ease.
For my makeup, we decided to go with more of a classic bridal look. Janelle wanted to emphasize my lips and cheeks. I was really happy with how it turned out. I felt like a beautified version of myself. The makeup felt light but covered, and lasted a really long time.
Here are some pictures that we took after the trial. This is a little nerve wracking, posting a close-up of my face on the internet, but I promised I’d document the process for you. Excuse the lighting of the indoor pictures; Nordstrom does not have good or flattering lighting. And of course, you will have to use your imagination since my hair is not done (I don’t think I even styled or blow-dried it that day).
What do you think? Any suggestions? What kind of look are you going for on your wedding day?

It’s pretty! Very natural, yet bridal and fresh! Funny how all the makeup artists get trained in asian eyes and caucasian eyes and all these other shaped eyes and yet manage to have no knowledge about mixed shaped eyes, lol. I only say this b/c i’m 1/4 korean and used to struggle with eye makeup all the time.
I really like the berry color on your lips. A little darker, maybe (hard to tell in pics), but it’s a lovely shade on you!
I saw the picture of the trial and said “ooooh.” So pretty. I love that lip color on you.

Yes, if it look half decent - as yours definitely does - in a photo or under a flash, then you can assume it’s even more beautiful and sparkling in person. Great job!
The eyes are great, nicely done. I had my makeup done at a Laura Mercier counter once, I really liked the results.
I love the natural look! She did a great job not going overboard with shadow too. You will look stunning on your wedding day!
looks great, very natural. and love the lip color too. it’s so cool that you’ve known your makeup artist for so long, and that she knows you/your style.
love the eyeshadow for you, have you thought about falst eyelashes, even just individual ones being added in for some voulme and “sexiness”? also with your eyes i think the dark eyeliner on your tear duct line is too harsh for you, and it causes to much shadowing and makes your eyes look quiet small. when really if you took that away you appear to have quiet stunning large eyes.
definately agree that a touch more blush would be wonderful, and have that lip gloss handy becasue it is fabulousfor you!

I think it looks awesome! And your right, nordstrom has the WORST lighting.. no good for pictures at all.

I love the lip color, I would say a little more blush and some false eye lashes would be great. Another person said the under eyeliner looks slightly too dark on the bottom.
Looks so natural and pretty, plus it doesn’t hurt that you’re stunning!
Eyeliner out to your eyes?! LOL. You look so pretty! The makeup is feminine and soft…a perfect “bridal” look!

Aww thanks everyone. I agree a little more blush. It looked like I had plenty at the time, but then like I said the photographs look like nothing after the fact.

I was going to suggest lashes, but it seems you just added that to your comments. I really like the look on you. It’s all coming together just beautifully, Miss Duckling.
LOVE the make-up! (and LOVE Laura Mercier-whenever I got a dept. store trial, they would always run & grab LM products!) And I 2nd the more blush! You will love the false eyelashes–I used LM corner lashes, which are floating around my house somewhere like gross little spiders! Btw, I did 6 makeup trials before I found my girl, who was AWESOME. Chi bees, hit me up for her info or a link to my makeup-I got SO many compliments on it!
Must be rough, having gorgeous hair like that-it takes me an hour to straighten my hair or it looks like squirrel innards. We’ll have to see your hair trial next!

I love your makeup. It looks great! Btw, what shade/product do you have on your lips? I love it and just read that pinky lips are “in” for fall!
@eileen marie: lol you are funny. My hair is straight which can be nice but when I want it to have wave or curl it basically feels like plastic after the amount of hairspray I use. But not to worry my hair trial is next week. Post coming soon.

I really like it! and funny what you said above about your straight hair after curling. Same problem for me too! To even hold the curl you have to spray, then curl, then spray again!
I think a little blush but other than that, girlfriend Duckling, you are tres cute and gorgeous!!!!!!!!
