About Mrs. Shortcake

I Do, Re-Do, Re-New

August 12th, 2009 @ 5:29 pm by Mrs. Shortcake

I’m seriously contemplating the idea of renewing our vows for some upcoming anniversary - five years maybe? I’d love to do it over, without the same stress, without all of the fanfare, just with us and a spectacular photographer.

We won’t be redoing our wedding photos this summer after all, because, well, I no longer fit into my wedding dress! :) If you remember, I lost a lot of weight the summer before our wedding because of stress and a very tight budget, and dropped down to a very unhealthy size for my height. After suffering two miscarriages this year, I’ve been doing my best to gain back the twenty+ pounds and settling into a healthier, more fertile BMI. But, as a result of those efforts, my wedding dress no longer zips up past my now-ample bosoms. Whoops. :)

Surprisingly, I’m not so terribly sad, despite my disappointment over our wedding photos.

I have been able to post-process many of them into something reasonable, and that is more than some other brides in similar situations are able to do. I am grateful for that ability - and the thought of renewing our vows definitely puts a sparkle back in my eye, so to speak!

Is anyone else planning to renew their vows at a later date?

I’m so sorry about the miscarriages, but I am so happy for you that you’re being pro-active about it and getting healthier! I loved your wedding plans and was so sad to hear about the photo disappointment, but I’m glad you now have some perspective about it all. I think renewing your vows later on (or just doing some kind of anniversary photo shoot) sounds great!

I’m sorry to hear about the miscarriages. Glad to hear that you are able to save your photos. You still remain optimistic! Yeah, I second you on the renew of vows……I love the idea!

I am so very deeply sorry for your miscarriages. I also want to renew my vows, but not for a while (I JUST got married). I can see why you would want to do it sooner than later. Perhaps after baby comes along, you can shed a few pounds, & they can let the dress out? Or maybe you can get a fab new one! (I’m sorry about your photos as well. I’m not 100% happy with mine, but my situation is not the same.)

My parents renewed there vows at 15 years and 25 years. I think it’s beautiful. If you decide to do it soon, don’t worry about your dress. It gives you an excuse to buy a new one.

There were so many things I want to change (one being the photographer) that maybe for one of our upcoming anniversaries we will do a vow renewal.

Yes! I totally want to! Maybe at 5 years. I’d love to do the intimate beach ceremony we couldn’t bring ourselves to do without family and friends this time. I’d be really eager to hear your plans if it becomes reality. :)

I’m so sorry abou the miscarriages, but you sound like you are on a good track back to health. Best of luck to you!

I’m sorry, too. I know that must be very painful.
I have told your photographer story to people…in that weird way that you do (or, I do) when you don’t feel like explaining that it’s someone you “know” from the internet. I’m just like, “This girl I know.”

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages.

Do take care, and I think you’re doing the right thing getting back into a healthier state. *big hugs*

You’ve inspired me to think about vow renewals every year. Probably nothing fancy, but to say our vows again, wear pretty clothes, and have photos to document it :)

So very sorry about the miscarriages! As far as a vow renewal, I would love to do it, but the hubby has absolutely no interest in it.

You don’t have to give up on the dress! Just have the tailor move the hook and eye down and create a V back for the bust! :) You can do it all!

I’m so sorry to hear about the miscarriages.

I’d love to do a vow renewal at some point, but I’m not so sure The Hubs is into it. I went to an amazing one last year for my friend’s parents, renewing on their 40th anniversary.

Hopefully the healthy weight will stop the miscarriages, we’re all hoping for you!! I was planning on doing a vow renewal for my parents 30th anniversary this year, but since we have to pay for our wedding it won’t be happening. Maybe we can do a joint one on our 5th and their 35th…

When I was a kid, all of my parents’ friends did vow renewals on the anniversary with the same number as the date of their wedding. They got married December 10, so they did a vow renewal for their tenth anniversary. We’ll have to wait until our 23rd!

I planned to do a vow renewal the while time I was planning my wedding. Honestly, there are so many options that if I didn’t keep reminding myself that I could do a more casual affair as a renewal in a few years…I may never have finished planning our first wedding :)

I haven’t visited Weddingbee in a long time since my wedding but I often think of you and look forward to your posts. Sorry if I am seeing this one late but I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. My sister-in-law is a tiny lady like you and was severely under her BMI and was told to gain weight immediately, especially if she wanted to have babies! She did so and conceived the weekend of our wedding. She is due December 1st. I’m so glad you are healthy and lucky enough to be a talented photographer to fix your wedding pics. The vow renewals down the road are the way to go!
