Mrs. Peep Toe's Picture
Mrs. Peep Toe, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, Policy Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Olive Oil Production Manager Engagement Date: December 16, 2007 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: November 26, 2008 Venue: Hotel Vitale About Me: I am a west coast lady who loves the San Francisco Bay Area. I love living with Mr. Peep and our animals: Huck the Dog and Ferris the Cat. I work to save the environment in San Francisco, while Mr. Peep makes ridiculously delicious Olive Oil. On any day you can find me reading the latest book I have gotten my hands on, eating Swedish Fish, and perusing wedding blogs! We are both champagne drinking foodies on a Bud Light budget. We are planning an eco-chic, intimate, and interfaith San Francisco City wedding.
About Mrs. Peep Toe

Before I dive into the rehearsal, I have one suggestion for you up-and-coming brides: The day before the wedding, do at least one selfish thing! Get a mani/pedi, a massage, go work out, eat french fries, etc. Just do one thing just for yourself. Or maybe follow in my footsteps and do the whole list. Put yourself first—for at least 20 minutes. Personally, it’s what got me through the weekend.

Okay, now that that is out of the way, back to the rehearsal.

Most brides are lucky and they have someone to help guide them through the rehearsal, be it a wedding coordinator or DOC, someone from the Church or Synagogue, a Pastor, Rabbi, or family friend. But some brides—in other words, this one—are left to run their own rehearsal.

I’ve only run one in my life, but here’s Mrs. Peep’s guide to running a rehearsal.

Pre-rehearsal:

1. Email all the folks that need to be at the rehearsal one week in advance with the date and time (If you are getting married outside, set the time exactly 24 hours before you get married, that way people will have a feel for the light and the weather).

2. Decide the order of folks walking in, and who will walk in with whom. This takes more forethought than you can imagine. For instance, if Brother Peep is in the wedding then will his wife, who is not in the wedding, walk down the aisle? For us, it was even more complicated because we had such a narrow aisle and we couldn’t send down sets of three.

In the end, our order was: the Rabbi and Chuppah holders, groomsmen/women, groom’s parents and groom, Mama Peep with BIL Peep, bridesmaid/MOH, flower girls and ring bearer, and Papa Peep and I.

Me with a proud Papa Peep.

3. Delegate one person on each side of the aisle to know the MASTER setup plan (the map of who is standing where) so they can answer questions on each side, if need be.

Karem202

A horrible picture of me, but you get the point.

During the rehearsal:

1. As the bride, start the rehearsal off by ’nicely’ asking for everyone’s cooperation and to listen for just a few brief moments. Hopefully, you can use the “I’m the Bride, listen to me card” if need be.

Karem203

The flower girls listening attentively

2. Set everyone up where they will be standing and/or sitting during the ceremony.

Karem204

3. Have everyone process.

Karem205

(Bridesmaid J and SIL/groomswoman M laughing that they have to process together)

4. Have everyone walk back to their spots to make sure they know what they are doing.

Karem206

Hmm, Did I ever tell you about the lace Chuppah I made? Maybe next time.

5. Congratulate everyone on a VERY successful rehearsal and break open the champagne.

K26J208

In the end, running our own rehearsal was fairly painless, but I will say that it did detract from me enjoying the moment (as I forgot to grab my shower bouquet), but since it only took 20 minutes, it did not detract from the day or the reason. So, if you have to run your own rehearsal, fear not. Just be organized, short, sweet, and stay on task.

Do you have your own rehearsal tip? I’d love to hear it.

Up next, cheers to the wedding party!

Soooo organized, Peep! I feel my attention-to-detail-ness slowly fading as the wedding approaches. :-(

And, um, your flower girls are adorable — and it’s a great picture of them!

Yes, my attention to detail is fading, as well, Bru. I remember thinking how incredibly organized I would be after having two years to plan, but eh…lol

Boo-I forgot my rehearsal bouquet too. I love (what I can see of) your dress & groomswoman M’s as well! I ran my own rehearsal, but of course the priest was there. It was the site of my one (and only) stressed-out bridezilla-y meltdown. I wish I wasn’t in such a foul mood–I couldn’t focus at all on the rehearsal, & it took too long. Plus I was late getting my mani (which got ruined-go figure) & pedi. Why can’t they do them at the same time?!

I just have to say - your smile is so bright in all your photos that it makes me more excited for my own day. I hope I smile half that bright :)

i planned on running it myself and was completely unprepared and frazzled. In the end the pastor took over, and while everything didn’t go just exactly how I had planned it out in my head tentatively, it was worth it to not worrry about the organization!

My pastor was very take-charge, and just let me butt in if I needed to change something.

You look so in control Peep! and you and Papa Peep are too cute!

Good tips. The only other tip I have is do a rehearsal whether you think you need one or not. We (my SIL/brother) didn’t do one at the location of the actually ceremony and the spacing was all messed up, the front row of guests couldn’t see around the bridal party.

Thank you for the advice. The family friend who is marrying us is a Judge, but typically only does the in-court ceremonies, so he’s fairly clueless about ours. Which either means I’ll be super organized and it will go as planned (haha) or I’ll just wing it.

Mr. CB is very adamant about us not having a rehearsal. He thinks it just stresses out the bride and is a waste of time for everyone else. I don’t agree with him wholeheartedly but I’m going to oblige. Lucky for me, my aunt made a good point about our ceremony just seeming much more real and raw, since we’ll never have done it before. And if someone messes up (after I give them detailed instructions at some point), oh well.

Thank you so much for the tips. We will be doing more of a rehearsal meeting (venue is too far to drive to mid-week for everyone). I suspect my diagram will look something like a football playbook when I’m done, but it definitely helps to be able to command the attention of everyone.
