My Wedding Day Headpiece

I found this metal headband at at a store called Hip Hop here in Cape Town. I’m still thinking about using the flowers and feathers I bought to make my own fascinator, but if it doesn’t work out, this will be lovely all by itself. I’m not sure whether I’ll wear a veil yet, but if I do, I think this will work well with that too.

I had my first of two hair appointments this weekend to start lightening my hair for the wedding. I went white blond a few years ago and really liked the way it looked with my fair skin. My hair won’t handle a second go at full bleaching, so I’m doing lots of highlights in ash blond instead. I went to Pink 23 on Roeland Street after hearing some great things about the salon. I have to say, I was VERY happy with the results, so I have high hopes for how things will look by September. I also painted my nails red today in order to start thinking about what color I’ll do on the day (it’s one of my favorites when it comes to nail varnish). Ultimately it’s a toss up between red, rouge noir (almost black), and pale cream/pink.

What color do you plan on painting your nails for the wedding? Are you considering something different than the typical bridal light pink or French manicure?

I love the red, and your hairpiece is beautiful! I am going with a coral color on my fingers & toes - I want a little pop of color!

I think I will definitely do Red. I tried a couple of pale shades and can’t find one that match my skin. They are either too white-ish for me, or too dark, just can’t find a perfect nude color.

Haha, nope! I’m actually just debating those two traditional nail options right now.

My toes, though, will be a fun pop of color — either something orange-y or purple-y.

I loved the “rouge noir” accents in your inspiration photos a few posts back - I think it adds an interesting dimension to the mostly-cream color scheme.

Love your headband and the nail color, though I have no clue what mine will be. Probably a not-so-pale pink if my skin stays as brown as it currently is, not the french manicure though. Just not me.

I think I am going to do my nails a pinky opal color. I was going to do french but I never wear acrylics so I think it would be weird to have claws when I’m used to my short little artist nails. Any longer and I’ll get paint or charcoal under them!

Love that headpiece!! I definitelywant bold nails for my wedding day. Probably hot, bright pink! I am so terrible at doing my own nails so they’re always bare. I figure I might as well go all out for W-Day

The headband is great, but maybe you should add your flowers & feathers(?) -It looks a tad X-masy. I love your red nails! Red is my favorite, but I always ended up chipping it right away. They say to paint your nails nude/light so it doesn’t detract from your bouquet/dress, etc. I went with OPI bubblebath for my fingers & my favorite OPI on my toes: “but I’m not really a waitress” (which I WAS when I started using it. I think it’s a nod to the waitress/actress thing.) I managed to mess up my manicure the day before the wedding (the SAME day I got it) so my niece & BFF (also my BMs) repainted my nails after the ceremony. Wonder if anyone will notice my nails are naked in some pics? You shouldn’t worry about convention though, do what you like-it’s your day.

Nope, I’m doing the typical light bridal pink. I’ve been test running the right shade to match my pink in the wedding, but haven’t quit found it yet. Your nails look great though!

i had deep red toenails (St Petersburgundy, OPI)! went fabulously with my black shoes

i went nude on my finger nails, had them shaped and then buffed them to an awesome shine though!

Love the headband!

I’m really glad I found your blog. I’m planning my Cape Town wedding from China, and aside from a 3-week visit last month (dress fitting, meeting with vendors), I’ve been doing the whole thing online. Even though I lived in CT for 2+ years prior to coming to China, I don’t know the city like a local. Hopefully I’ll pick up some tips on your blog!
