Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Button That Up!

August 13th, 2009 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Poodle

Ever since I was a little girl I have been in love with buttons. I don’t know what it is about them that makes me want them, especially if they are cute little pins.

I saw the wedding as the perfect excuse to start a “buttons project”. Here are the images that make me want to make tons of them.

Button That Up! :  wedding diy green wedding projects Inspira  { Image Sources Right (Link) - Left (Link) }

I loved all of those ideas! And then I ran into these other wedding pictures that blew my mind.

How cute is the “Better Together” idea!! I love it. Maybe we could have our own combination and tie our cake topper idea into the buttons idea and do a “better together” sport theme, with different sports for our tables… kind of like this:

Button That Up! :  wedding diy green wedding projects Table Y  { Image Source (Link) }

I even found a great Etsy seller that offers custom buttons, so I could just send her the image and have the pins on Mr. Poodle’s doorstep a week later smile032.

All of this looks like a cool plan in my mind, but I end up in a controversial situation. I am trying to plan our wedding using as many recycled materials as possible, to make it as eco-friendly as possible, and I feel that these buttons are going to end up in the trash. Maybe it’s just one of those “not necessary items” in our wedding.

Mr. Poodle is very supportive, and if I like an idea, he does not question whether it’s “green enough” or not. He loves the effort I’m putting in to finding new options to go green, but he said that if I’m happy with something, that I should just go for it.

So, what do you think? Should I go for this project because I love buttons, or should I forget about it because it’s not “eco-friendly” enough?

I think it depends on what’s ON the buttons — if it’s something super specific, like monogram and date, guests likely wouldn’t keep it. But I love the first pictures and grey buttons, and would totally hang on to them!

I gotta say I LOVE this idea - so much that I quickly played out how I could incorporate cute buttons. But then I thought - lots of time, money, and work for a little pin most people won’t hold on to. If it’s important to you, go for it! Just don’t take it personal if not everyone takesthem home or apprecaites them.
It may not be the greenest - to throw them out - but what about donating the extra buttons to a school or something - if it’s appropriate? just an idea.

Those buttons are too cute! I think you should have the buttons if that’s what you truly want. If everything else is eco-friendly than I don’t think the buttons will hurt. I vote buttons! The I <3 Cheese & Tofu ones crack me up.

I agree with Bruschetta said. I think if you make some creative buttons and not just a monogram/date button guests will be more likely to want to sport them after your day. I know I would. :)

ummmm. It took me a minute to figure out what the first thing was. I can picture my mom “is that some sort of new $ex thing kids are using?”
I love the Idea! What about a left and right mitten?
or cookies and milk?

I love buttons but I’m partial. I’ve had buttons ever since my NKOTB set. :) Maybe you can incorporate buttons in a different way, so that you are using fewer.

I love buttons too! But I agree that some people might not love them as much and I think might be a waste if they are personalized too much (dates, monograms, etc). I like your idea though, and I think guests will be more likely hold on to them.

I am in the same exact situation! I actually have a button maker (to make the cute little 1″ buttons!!) but I am really trying to decide if I should go for it or not. I know a lot of our guests wouldn’t use buttons.. but I still love them. Since I am making them myself I could at least use recycled paper.. but still, a lot of them might end up int eh trash. I am interested in hearing what you ultimately decide to do!

I also love buttons, and would totally save some that had a friends wedding date or a cute icon on it. It’s not the greenest thing, but I think it is something enough people will hold on to…

These are amazingly, adorably cute buttons. So you know that it pains me to say that I think these will be a near-total waste. No one who isn’t our generation or younger is going to want to sport or keep a cutesy little button, no matter what it says on it. I think you should get a few buttons made for your own personal use, but not use them as any kind of favor. Sorry to say it, but that’s what I think. They are adorable though….sigh. :)

I like your better together idea with the sports equipment. I know the buttons are cute — especially the first set, the I Love Tofu! — but would you consider just printing the design on round stickers so that you’re not creating potential metal waste?

i love buttons!! i think if you reallllllllllllly like them, then go for it. i love the pic above with the pink escort cards and black buttons with each guests’ names. i think people are more likely to take them if they have something cute on them or if they have their name on them. who doesn’t like having a personalized something…………….especially if it’s a cute little button?

i think your idea for the buttons so adorable. I would definitely keep it!
What I wouldn’t keep is something like wedding bells with Bride and Groom, date or initials or something.
The better together theme is versatile!

Definitely do it!

Like the others said before, just make the buttons less ‘wedding’ and more cute. Love the nerdy husband/crafty wife combo.

My fiance and I are going to do buttons as favors at our wedding. Check out this site we are thinking of using it for ours. Good luck!

i would go ahead with this. maybe you can request using recycled paper? and if you make them with a cute, non-wedding specific picture people would keep them. but i think people would keep them regardless.

and i totally bought that nerdy husband/crafty wife combo after getting the approval from the bf. hehe. i love them!

@chrissy: Too funny - I thought the same thing! :)

Miss Poodle, if you really love this idea, I think you should go for it! The mini buttons are so cute!

Too cute, go with what your little heart desires. I like them on the escort cards.

I keep wanting to use these in some fashion, but it doesn’t quite make sense for our wedding: http://makemmingle.com/
