Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Flowers for My Girls

August 14th, 2009 @ 8:22 am by Mrs. Poodle

There’s an awesome PRO blogger in the hive - Llubav Choy Duerr. I just loveee her work! So, weeks ago, I saw her flower ring pillow, and I thought this could be an awesome way to add more color to my BMs’ gifts! I’ll share the actual gifts later.

So I used her projects as my inspiration to make purple sunflower pins for my girls! But instead of sewing the flowers, I went for the easy hot glue gun option smile031.

It took me a half hour to make these 4 flowers for my girls smile031. Do you want to make your own? This is how I did it…

Materials you’ll need:

  • Brown fabric
  • Brown beads
  • Brown thread
  • Purple felt
  • Fake green leaf
  • Hot glue gun
  • Safety pins

For one flower you will need 30 petals and 2 felt strips. You have to make small cuts on one (bottom) and cut a zig-zag shape on the other one (top), just like I’ve demonstrated in the drawing below. I wanted the petals to be more “pointy” shaped - but you can make them as round as you want!

To make the center of the flower, you first need to cut a round piece of brown fabric, then sew around it like in the diagram below:

After that, I hot glued the 5″ piece of felt around the center of the flower, and then after that I hot glued all the petals, trying to space them equally around.

Then I took a safety pin, placed it in the middle, and secured it with two small hot glue drops.

I made a circle with the wire of the fake fabric leaf and hot glued that on. too.

As a final step, and just so the back of your flower doesn’t look so messy, cut a round piece of felt and glue it to the back with the pin open smile031.

TA DA! You’ve got your felt flower pin!

{ I really hope my girls like their flowers, or else Curly is going to steal them and use them.
Look at him! }
