About Mrs. Labrador

Putting the Juniors to Work

August 15th, 2009 @ 2:05 pm by Mrs. Labrador

I have a pretty large bridal party: 5 bridesmaids (it used to be 6, but one moved to Ohio and had to relinquish her duties), 3 flower girls (1 is more of an “honorary” FG because of her age), and 2 junior bridesmaids.

I chose to have so many flower girls and junior bridesmaids because they are all my nieces. I just felt like it wouldn’t be right to choose one or two over the rest, ya know?

At least with lots of cute kids running around, I’ll have adorable photos like this one:

Source

Before I get to my dilemma, allow me to introduce my two junior bridesmaids!

Jr. Lab Abbi is my little “Gap Kids” turned rocker niece. She isn’t the typical little girl-I mean, she likes skateboards! She has so much spunk and will definitely grow up into an strong, independent woman. I love how she’s always playing little jokes on people. Like she’ll say “Guess what?” and when you answer with “What?”, she’ll say “Chicken Butt!” She is my second oldest brother’s only child.

Jr. Lab Autumn is definitely the type of niece who starts to become a close friend as she gets older. We’re only ten years apart in age, but she is already wise beyond her years. She has a very protective, almost “motherly”, quality about her and genuinely cares about everyone in her life. She is the oldest of older sister’s three girls.

Gotta love when the old brace-face photos come out to play!

So… the dilemma. Lately, I’ve been thinking about what my junior bridesmaids will carry down the aisle. I think they’re too old for the pomanders, yet too young to have the same type of bouquets as the bridesmaids. That’s when I got the idea for them to carry something unique: my love letter box and our love letters!

We needed a way to get the box and letters to the altar anyways, so I thought having our juniors bring them was a good way to go (and they won’t be forgotten if they’re assigned to someone). So, one of our juniors will carry the box with the wine bottle in it and the other junior will carry our letters. After walking down the aisle, they’ll sit in the front row with the flower girls during the ceremony, and then bring the box and letters up to us when it’s time.

The problem is, I don’t have any ideas for a cute way of carrying the letters. I like that the box has a little handle, so it’s perfect for carrying, but what about something for the letters? Suggestions?

Maybe tie them up with a pretty ribbon, like a book strap? Or have them in a basket?

I would tie them up like a package with a thick pretty ribbon in a bow - the ribbon can match your colors and if you have just some extra buds left over from making your bridesmaids’ bouquets I would tuck a few sprigs or blooms around the ribbon , that way it ties in with your bouquets… the way I’m picturing it looks very pretty

I agree with the hunterstorme, a thick ribbon to wrap it like a package or gift would be great!

Yeah, I was going to say ribbon, too. Maybe two ribbons–one going across the letters and one going up and down?

The ribbon idea is very cute but I was also thinking maybe putting them in a box that looks like the wine box so the girls can match! Loved chatting with you on Beetv…your dogs are so cute! You’re so beautiful Miss Lab! :)

I have 10 girls on my side as well! (6 bridesmaids, 2 juniors, and 2 flower girls). I get funny looks from people sometimes that I am having so many, but I don’t have the heart to exclude any of them! I want them all there. :)

I would even roll the letters like a scroll and tie them with ribbon. I like that you’re including these girls!

I think that this is a thoughtful idea… but I also wonder if the girls will feel like they are missing out on a bouquet! After all the flowers are a gift to the girl who carries them. (They won’t get to keep your box.) But you could have them carry the box down the aisle before the processional… like the candle lighters begin, before the service! My guess is that your florist will be able to make a smaller bouquet that is perfect for these precious young ladies! You might even choose to have a silk arrangement made for the box since that is going to be a permanent keepsake of your day!

I think your ideas about the wine and love letters are great and agree with the rest of the hive about packaging letters with ribbon like a bookstrap if you go with that idea. If you think the girls would feel left out without followers I would suggest a tussy mussy. Don’t worry I had NO idea what these were either until my florist described them to me. They are like a large corsaige with a handle. She suggested them for the mothers because the pinned corsaiges will get crushed with all the hugging and the wrist corsaiges can look a little promish but I think they could look adorable for Jr. bridesmaids.

@Miss_Riley: I meant to say flowers not followers. :)

I love the ribbon idea. If the stack is too small for the ribbon however, I would suggest scrolling them like @mary-alice-me: said. Or putting them in the additional box… I don’t know- I like all of the ideas!

you could always tie them together with ribbon like has been suggested and then place them on a medium sized silver or antique glass tray

That’s such a cute way to get them down the aisle! I agree with all above, I think you should tie them up in a pretty ribbon and have her carry them.

How about a cute little drawstring bag? You could DIY it AND use it after the wedding!
