My dress, if you’ll recall, came with a black ribbon sash. After receiving it, I did state that I wanted to get a green one. And then I stuck the dress in my closet and did nothing with it for most of the summer.
Finally, a few weeks back, I bought some “spinach” colored taffeta. And finally, two nights ago, I sewed me a sash.
Here’s my dress looking all naked without its sash.

I bought two yards of the fabric because I didn’t want to have to join together two pieces of fabric to make the sash. As a result, I knew I was going to have green taffeta coming out the wazoo for years to come, but what’s a girl to do? I measured and cut off a strip about 5″ wide.
Then I folded the strip in half and sewed it up…

And turned my newly formed “tube” inside out to hide the seam.
It looked kind of like a snake, so I ironed it flat:
Then, I sewed up the ends, and Voila! One green sash.

I think it looks pretty good. It isn’t perfect. To be honest, this project took me about 45 minutes and by the time I was half-way through, I was pretty convinced that I’d be trying to find another alternative to this somewhat-lumpy homemade wonder. In a pinch, this’ll work though!
Whether the sash works out for me or not, I did manage to make a couple of very functional wall-matching pillowcases to adorn some pillows in our three-season room!
