Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

A while ago I posted all the different origami flowers I was working on for the wedding (here and here), and I had great feedback for all of them except one. Remember the cherry blossoms from this post?

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle :  wedding diy flowers Floresc  { Image source and tutorial 1.0 (Link) }

Well, I had a hard time trying to figure out how to finish these flowers. So after I finally did, I had to teach everyone in person so they could help me (MOH, Sister, Mamá Poodle and more), because they could not finish the last steps of this tutorial. I thought it would be really helpful if I could add more pictures to the 1.0 version of the blossom tutorial, and I came out with this next version (it’s basically the same, but I added some more pictures and details).

So, to make things easier I drew a star, a heart, and two lines on each corner, all of them in different colors, so that way if you draw and replace the colors I used (purple, green, pink and blue), you can follow these instructions a bit easier.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 1 2 1. Start with a square of paper and fold it in half from corner to corner.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 2 2 2. The, fold it again from corner to corner making a small triangle.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 4 1 3. Partially unfold from one corner. Take the point from the far side of the triangle and fold it downwards to the top point, like in the picture where the “purple” goes to the “pink”.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 3 1 4. Flatten down into a square like this, then flip over and repeat on other side.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 5 1 5. This is what you end up with; on the left you see it unfolded, and folded on the right.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 6 1 6. Now, take the tip of the square (the heart and star) and lift it away from the base, like in the right picture.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 7 1 7. Now you need to fold the “heart” to the center line, and repeat the same with the “star”, like in the pictures above.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 8 1 8. Flatten it down like in the above picture.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 9 1 9. Now, you can lift back that side and “hide” the star and heart.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 10 1 10. Now you need to turn it over to the other side and do step 7 all over again.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 11 1 11. Here you can see me doing number 7 again

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 1201 12. And now repeat number 9. Both sides will look the same.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 1301 13. Now you need to take the tip with the star and heart and fold it back to leave a mark.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 14 14. Now using that mark, you need to unfold the petal and turn the star and heart “inside”, like in the picture.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 1501 15. Here you can see me unfolding and folding the petal “inside”.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 16 16. This is how it should look at the end. Only 3 more to go!

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 17 17. Now repeat the process with the other 3 points (the ones that have hearts and stars).

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 19 18. Again after making the folding line, unfold the petal and turn “inside” the heart and star.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 18 19. This is how it looks with 2 of them done. Let’s go for the 3rd one!

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 20 1 20. The 3rd one is ready.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 21 1 21. Finally, the last one.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 22 1 22. This is the end result after doing 4 of them.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 23 1 23. Take one of the outer corners and fold it towards the center line. Remember that this is the bottom center of our flower (all the ones we folded are on the opposite sides).

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 24 1 24. It should look like this. Repeat on this half of this petal, then repeat both folds on the backside.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 2501 25. Hold the flower and gently separate the petals in an outward direction.

Blossom Paper Tutorial 2.0 a la Poodle : wedding diy flowers 26 26. It should look like this with all 4 petals completed.

Remember:

To create the center of your flower you need to cut a small piece of crepe paper twice as long as you want the center to be, gently twist a couple of times in the center, fold crepe paper in half and gently insert into the center of the flower. I use a bit of glue on the folded point to secure in the flower and a small nail or wire to ease the crepe paper lower into the base.

From The Flirty Bride

I’m really happy about the feedback I got from my previous post, and knowing that so many brides are thinking about this option for their centerpieces.

Happy folding!

Oh my gosh! What a labor intensive post… and very thoughtful to color and shape code everything.

You really are a DIY genius, and had nicely manicured nails to boot!

Sigh… I can only aspire!

I really only have the patience to make cranes. I’m sure they’ll make an appearance at my wedding.

Fantastic photo tutorial!!! I checked out yours and the original tutorial and your “ending” instructions are much easier to follow. Nicely done…

Funny enough, I too am going origami crazy for my centerpieces. Even before we had a venue or a date (we have both now, thank goodness!), I knew the centerpieces would be 100% DIY incorporating books and origami flowers. I chose these flowers - http://foldingtrees.com/2008/11/kusudama-tutorial-part-1/ - and am hoping to take the plunge & try my first kusudama this weekend!

I figure with 1+ years between now and the wedding, I should have enough time to stock pile all the flower we’ll need… Fingers crossed that your tutorial helps your flowers blossom to life!
