Dress Success?

August 18th, 2009 @ 4:15 pm by Mrs. Dew Drop

Remember part 1 of my wedding dress search?

So, yes, my sister went into labor five weeks early. Three days after my birthday, in fact.

The good news was that my sister and her twins were all fine. And, yes, a new niece and nephew is really the best birthday present ever. My sister is going to have an awfully hard time shopping for me next year…

The bad news was that my mom left immediately for Connecticut and planned to be there for six weeks or so. But since I had already stalled for as long as possible, I couldn’t really wait another six weeks to order my dress.

So I did what any good attorney would do. I immediately hit the books. And by books, I mean the internet. I couldn’t help it. My name is Miss Dew Drop, and I am a research-aholic.

Keeping my favorite dress, the Blue by Enzoani Brighton, in mind, I started searching for pictures of similar dresses online. The more I looked, the more I realized I was looking for something exactly like it. Something with a mermaid silhouette, lace, a little bit of sparkle, and straps. Something a little out of the ordinary.

For reference, here’s the dress again on (a makeup-less) me:

Since online research wasn’t helping me find a different dress, I moved on to in-person research. Bridesmaid R came with me to the bridal salon where I had tried on the Brighton, and we got the consultant to pull every dress they had that was remotely similar. After trying them all on, I realized that nothing else quite measured up.

Maybe the Brighton was right all along?

So I did it. I went ahead and bought it.

It may not have been my mom’s favorite wedding-related decision, but at the time it’s what I wanted.

Did anyone else end up buying the first dress they tried on?

It’s beautiful! My dress was ONE of the first — but not THE first — I tried on my first day looking!

I ALMOST bought the first dress, but wound up with something very similiar. That dress looks absolutely stunning on you. I hope your mom doesn’t mind!

I didn’t end up buying the first dress, but I DID buy a dress my mother wasn’t 100% on board with.

I didn’t try on the first dress I tried on, but I did choose a dress that wasn’t my mom’s top choice (at first). She was in love with this lacy one that really wasn’t my style and when I showed her the dress I decided on (had found it with my MOH), she responded, “Oh that’s nice.” Great - she hated it! But in the end, she loved it, and knew it was more me, and we were both really happy I went with the dress I did. But man was I devastated at first! Your dress looks perfect on you, btw :)

great choice, dewr! I originally picked the dress my mom wasn’t thrilled with, and changed my mind to the one she loved halfway through the process!

I did the same thing! I went dress shopping on a whim, and love the first dress I tried on. But, you can’t buy the first dress, right?? So I procceeded to go dress shopping two more times, with that same dress always in the back of my mind. So, I bought it! :)

The way you write this, I suspect you ended up with a different dress. But the smile on your face in this picture makes me think THIS is the right dress! So you’d better be blinding us with your pearly whites in the next picture if you changed it! ;)
