We're young, driven and madly in love. Together we're pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. I have an unnatural attraction to cake, a passion for blogging and a love of good design. Queen for a Day: My Bridal Shower

August 18th, 2009 @ 5:30 pm by Mrs. Lightning

With Edith Piaf serenading in the background my lovely ladies recently gathered to “help me pass the time and shorten the wait” complete with oh-so-lovely macarons, chocolate cake, and of course, a never ending supply of pink bubbly.

Ahem, I took the two missing raspberry macaroons… I couldn’t resist. Mr Lightning’s youngest sister made the cupcakes in the background.

While much of the stuff you see in the pictures actually belongs to me, as I’m a collector of cake tiers and other tea goodies, Mama Lightning and her close friend (host of the French soiree) did a spectacular job in making my theme come to life. And yes, the birdcages held their place in the spotlight, too!!

Opening presents… this gift came with a beautiful card from Mama Lightning. If it wasn’t for Edith, I swear you’d hear crickets in the background while I opened each one. I’m pretty sure I was quite the blushing bride at this stage.

And it is no wonder!! Look at some of the lovely gifts my ladies spoiled me with… including 4 pairs of slippers, a garter, wedding day perfume from my wonderful mother, and something for the honeymoon, too!!

What was your favorite gift you received at your shower?

Those are some different shower gifts! I got mostly kitchen and home stuff. My favorite was my cinnamon gloss kitchenaid mixer!

@MexicanGirl: I love Lolita Lempicka too! We don’t get it here very often but my mom managed to find a limited edition box set that came with that necklace I’m wearing in the first picture (it’s a little birdcage… and if you look closely at the cake you will see another bidcage… this actually held another limited edition mini Lolita bottle and I’ve kept it for many years… turned out to be a lovely cake topper). My wedding day perfume is a toss up between that and Miss Dior Chérie which is also pictured above.

@Andie: Yes different gifts indeed. I have been living alone for quite sometime so already had enough homeware items to fill my little apartment so the event was treated as more of a “pamper party”. But I must admit our wedding registry does have a few baking tools too!

@Miss Lightning: yeah, Lolita Lempicka it’s not so popular here too (at least were i live) so actually i had to travel once to Belize just to get it! and that necklace it’s fabulous! now i want that special edition ;)
