About Mrs. Mascara

Please forgive me for all the DIY posts lately. Honestly it’s all I’ve been doing the past few weeks! Here’s a project that anyone can do… it’s super simple! So easy in fact, I’m not sure it requires pictures. But I took some for you anyway!

I’m not sure where I first found them, but for a long time now I’ve wanted to use canvas bags to fill with goodies for our out-of-town guests. I always seem to be an OOT guest at weddings, and it is so nice to have some snacks already in the hotel room when you are tired and hungry after a long drive. Our guests will find these cuties filled with treats in their rooms!

And now for the super simple tutorial:

You will need:

  • Tote bags (canvas, paper, most things will work) I ordered our bags from cheaptotes.com
  • Stamp
  • Stamp pad
  • Something to place inside the bag to prevent bleeding to the back (I used a blank stencil but cardboard would work, too!)

Instructions:

1. Lay your bag on a hard, flat surface.

2. Place cardboard or whatever you are using to prevent bleeding inside the bag in the area you want your design.

3. Load stamp with ink.

4. Position stamp where you want your design.

5. Firmly press down to transfer ink.

6. Carefully lift stamp off of bag.

7. Let dry and admire your pretty new tote bag!

This is one of those projects that took almost no thought and only an hour or two to finish! It was so simple, yet so satisfying to check it off the list!

Did you opt to give out OOT bags? Did your guests appreciate them?

I’m actually very excited to make our OOT bags. It’s one of the things that makes me really feel welcome when I go to a wedding, and I always appreciate it. This is a great idea, I’ll definitely have to try it!

Did you use any particular type of stamp pad?

We were going to do OOT bags, but most of the guests who would be coming to Philly unfortunately sent in “no” RSVPs. :-(

@sarahnyc23: I used ColorBox pigment ink pads in Eggplant and Harbor.
@Lo: I didn’t stuff them yet! They are still folded up in my dining room!

@LatteLove: Clarification: we are using the same bags to house our wedding party gifts. About 50 of these will be used as OOT bags. Still a lot, but not as many as are in the photo!

SO cute! this was my original plan for our OOT bags, but the canvas bags i wanted were on backorder so i ended up using the smaller sized reusable bags from whole foods with the tree design on them. They’re not as unique to us, but they still match our overall design and were actually cheaper than the canvas ones i was going to order!

These are so cute! I am a huge fan of OOT bags… I dedicate a weekly feature to welcome tote ideas on my blog! So far, we’ve shared ideas to welcome guests to: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Virginia, Ohio, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

If you’d like your state to be featured, let me know! One Weddingbee already suggested Tennessee, so that’s coming up in a couple of weeks!

Those are cute!! Fortunately for me where I work we have the cute white paper bags with stiff handles so I plan on just taking a bunch of those … my bosses love me so much! haha

This is such a great idea. I have been toying with the idea myself and have found some cute ideas on etsy.com but this is a way more affordable option. Keep us posted on what you end up putting in them. I hope to find a tote that fit a beach towel and some snacks andd water.
