We both come from a small town in PA but are growing to love the California lifestyle. He loves wine and I love cheese... the perfect combination! When I'm not drooling over wedding blogs, I'm attending grad school, out being a foodie, or attempting to "walk" our cat at the park. Two things guaranteed to excite me are wedding cakes and breaking out my suitcase to travel. Mr. Sunbeam and I are personalizing our hometown wedding to celebrate our high school sweetheart status and PA roots with a few CA touches. After ten years of dating we couldn't be more excited to call each other husband and wife!
About Mrs. Sunbeam

A Best Man with Serious Talent

August 19th, 2009 @ 11:55 am by Mrs. Sunbeam

When I introduced you to our photographer, I told you we had decided against going the friendor route because of the huge responsibility that comes with the job. When it came to videography we had a more relaxed take, which meant a Friendor was a contender. We do want a nice video, but did we need a cinematic wonder? Maybe, maybe not. If you ask our budget, it will say “no”. Lucky for us, our friends know how to wield a camera. One of our best men, James of JP Studios, has been making awesome videos for as long as I have known him. Yes, there are two best men. That is another story. Check out his latest work!

Hyun Yim + Chi Ho Park *Teaser* from JPstudios on Vimeo.

The first video featured here is another favorite of mine! You can tell he has a passion for videography. With work like that, we would LOVE to have James shoot our wedding, and he has offered, but he’s a best man!! I know he’s going to bring his equipment to the wedding, but his role as best man is going to come first.

It looks like we are going to miss out on a great Friendor (mostly for the sake of my sanity).

No worries though, we are not short of friends who know their way around a camera, thanks to Mr. Sunbeam’s career. We put feelers out to see if anyone was up for the task and were able to work out a deal with a friend/coworker. He’s not a wedding videographer, but he is a Director of Photography, and he’ll be our official videographer! Like I said, we don’t have any specific expectations for our wedding video. I’m not even sure if Mr. Sunbeam, James, or the Friendor will actually end up editing the video, but the important thing is that our moments will get captured either way! It helps to have friends like these.

Are you hiring a videographer for your big day? Or are you at least asking dad to shoot some key moments?

Yup, we’re hiring a videographer. I don’t want to miss some moments — our vows, first dance, toasts and parent dances in particular — being on film!

Lucky you to have such talented friends!!! We’d love to have a video… not in the budget though… I’m envious of all the cinematic triumphs I’ve seen though…

Wow, I just looked at the first featured video that you said is one of your faves…the only word I can think of to describe that wedding is dreamy!! That video is amazing, and your friend has serious talent.

Aww.. the video your friend shot is really cute! :) Love the style.

We are having a videographer at our wedding- had to manipulate our budget for it… but I’m confident that it’s an investment we aren’t going to regret. :D

We’re not hiring a videographer - it’s not in the budget and it would make me feel awkward to boot. But as it turns out, a good friend of my family’s makes it his hobby to take his video camera to every wedding he attends, then give the bride and groom a copy of the video. It’s by no means “videography,” but I guess there’ll be some sort of videographic record!

My best friend, on the other hand, is very lucky. Her matron of honor’s husband is a documentary filmmaker. :)

You have an amazingly talented friend! (and kinda freaky, but I actually recognize the girl in the video! eeks. small world.)

We wanted to ask a friend to capture some footage at our wedding. I mentioned it to a couple of the bridesmaids who said their husbands/dates would be more than happy to help. But as the wedding drew near, I felt bad. They insisted they wanted to help, but I didn’t want them to feel obligated to capture all the moments we wanted. Call me crazy, but we booked a videographer a couple days before the wedding and signed the contract the day-of. :D

I’m glad you girls liked his work! I know he’ll be interested to see any feedback that pops up here. BTW if you are interested to know James lives outside of Baltimore, MD.

Videography can be expensive, but you know I *cherish* the videos my mom has from her childhood and what not (we just had them converted to dvds), and am so sad there aren’t any of my father, or my parents together until the kids came around. So if we didn’t have such talented friends to call on, I’m know we would have done all we could to find some money to hire a pro. It’s memories of the mannerisms and the movements that you can’t capture in photography that I love so much!

We decided (with a lot of influence from our budget) not to hire a videographer. But I feel sure someone will have a video camera. Don’t you just love friends! I’m still amazed at how many people have offered to do so much for my wedding! I am truly thankful!

Oooookay. Jealous doesn’t even BEGIN to describe how I feel right now! You know he’s still going to capture things for you despite being the best man. In fact, being a best man means he’ll do it for you no matter what you tell him!

Wow, what an awesome video. I can’t wait to see yours! We didn’t have a videographer (didn’t have it in the budget), but I can see how they really add to the experience.
