We're young, driven and madly in love. Together we're pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. About Mrs. Lightning

DIY Countdown: Hangers and Just Married Banner : wedding decor diy Img 178 As the final countdown begins I’ve been finishing up some of our final DIY projects. Most recently, I completed personalized hangers for each of my bridesmaids and a “just married” banner for our Mini Cooper (aka, the getaway car).

I purchased the hangers on sale (yay) for R29 a pair ($3.50). They’re a dark gray velvet and softly padded. I made small tags for each bridesmaid and tied them to the hangers with silver ribbon. Each tag was striped like our invites and carried the same crest from our invitations (the crest is a free vector, and I highly recommend sourcing and collecting these as you come across them - I used Adobe Illustrator when working with vectors). I also used the same fonts from the main suite (Rosewood is the carnival font, and Eccentric is the art deco font). I plan to hang all the girls’ dresses up before they arrive on the day to get ready, and I think this will be a sweet little surprise - every girl needs a luxury hanger, right?

DIY Countdown: Hangers and Just Married Banner : wedding decor diy Img 17801 Moving on to the banner. I printed flags with different patterns and letters on A4 sheets. I cut everything with the guillotine and punched holes on each corner to feed the silver ribbon through.

DIY Countdown: Hangers and Just Married Banner : wedding decor diy Img 17601 And just like that, it’s done! (Mr Lightning kindly modeled the banner for me.)

DIY Countdown: Hangers and Just Married Banner : wedding decor diy Img 177 However, if you’d like to forgo the full DIY, I’d recommend one Martha Stewart’s simple and lovely templates, which you can get here.

Are you surprising your bridesmaids with any little luxurious perks? What are they?

both pieces look gorgeous!

I have a stupid question that I hope you can answer: how do you print on the smaller tags?

Also, where do you find great backgrounds? I know there are free vectors and for a dollar on Istock …but the backgrounds? any suggestions?

@pinwheelspoprocks: The smaller tags were all printed onto an A4 sheet and cut out individually. I used a whole punch and a corner rounder to finish up the top part of the tag. I print everything A4 to guarantee the printer feeds correctly and use a guillotine form there.

With regard to backgrounds I made the stripes in illustrator. However you are correct there are many great vectors out there that can be used for backgrounds (some vectors actually come in the form of repeated patterns etc). I have yet to actually purchase one (I collect free vectors in my spare time at work for future projects) so if you search for fee vectors you will be likely to find some. Also when searching for vectors, you will find a few sites like http://www.vecteezy.com which have archives of cool free vectors if you have the patience to sift through them (you’ll even find things in archives that don’t just show up in search results.

However you definitely can purchase great vectors for next to nothing so definitely check out Istock and fotolia.

My fiance and I both drive MINI Coopers! We’re going to use one of ours as our getaway car. We’re having a hard time deciding which because his is blue (something blue!!) and mine is cream (very bridal!) Aren’t they the best cars? Can’t wait to see your pictures with the banner you made!
