About Mrs. Dew Drop

Double the Outfit Trouble

August 19th, 2009 @ 6:33 pm by Mrs. Dew Drop

Have I mentioned yet that I’m an auntie now? If I haven’t, it must be because I’m too busy shouting it out the windows and blabbing it to casual passers-by. I’m so, so excited!

My sister’s twins, a girl A and a boy K, will be just about seven months old when I get married.

I’m sure it’s not hard to guess my first thought on this: Clearly they need matching outfits.

Problem #1: It is impossible to find dressy clothes for baby boys.

Why is this? Do clothing manufacturers really think parents take their baby girls to fancy events but leave their boys behind???

Okay, okay, so it was easy to find white christening outfits and velvet wintertime dressy outfits. But how was that going to help me for a September wedding?

But eventually I came up with a few options that I thought might work:

Cute (and it can be monogrammed!), but I wasn’t sure where to find a matching green gingham dress for A.

But at $78 for that boy’s shortall, this was starting to seem a bit pricey.

But of course, these were similarly expensive. And perhaps too sailboat-y?

Problem #2: My sister and my mom hated the idea of matching outfits. They promptly outvoted me.

Okay, so no matching outfits. No problem. The good thing about babies is that they look cute in whatever they wear.

My mom went on a shopping trip and came home with these two things for K:

But we still needed to find some pants. (Trust me, K is much happier when fully dressed.)

And she brought home this dress for A:

But when we started to finalize what everyone else was going to wear, we realized we had another problem.

Problem #3: Somehow the wedding became more formal than we were originally contemplating. I’m still not sure how this happened! But if everyone else was going to dress up, clearly my favorite twins should have fancy outfits too. Right?

So I looked a little harder and came up with the following:

Um, with the amount of thought put into this, can you already tell we’re going to spoil those twins??

I can’t wait to see them all dressed up!

Who are you excited to see dressed up at your wedding?

Try buying Indian clothes for them! I’m sure they’ll be a lot cheaper than the ones you’re currently looking at, plus the selection is fabulous. :)

@D.Marie: Thanks! :)

@NS: Unfortunately, they’re too small for that! The smallest size we’ve been able to find locally is 12 months or so. But if you have a source for something smaller, please share!

I have a twin sister and we were always dressed alike. So annoying! lol.
I am looking forward to my little brother (He’ll be 3 when we get married) and my FI’s Niece (Just shy of 3 when we get married). They are going to be our ring bearer and flower girl. I’m so excited!
Super cute outfits you had picked, though!

The first thing I bought wedding related was the dress I found for my Niece…. 1 month before she was born. She was SOOOOOO cute in it though. I’m glad I’m not the only obsessive Aunt!

All very cute, but I’ve personally always been partial to little boys in shorts with a jacket and long socks. How about knickers? I have boy/girl twins and any time I had to dress them up when they were infants, I put my son in knickers or shorts. We had one set of matching outfits for Easter one year that was a linen type blend-hers with the large “sailor” coller in off white and the dress was a khaki and off white check, his was khaki knickers with a white shirt underneath with sort of a page boy coller. Very cute!

I love baby boys in dressy outfits! The only ones I’ve been able to find though are tuxes and then a button up shirt and slacks. People really need to start widening the selection for us!

The pricing on kids clothing is ridiculous, especially considering it won’t take long for them to spit up on it. ; ) Good luck!

Try this site. They have an adorable baby tux.

Please remember that while so of these outfits are really cute, they might not be the most comfortable things for little ones. An uncomfortable baby equals a crying baby, which is something I’m sure you don’t want both for their sakes and yours.

I just recently noticed the same thing: baby boy clothes are not nearly as dressy as all the girls stuff. Strange. I love the sailboat outfits, but I agree, they are a bit too nautical for the wedding. :)

Those are soo adorable! My favs are the outfits your mom came back with!
I’m super psyched to see our 3 nieces & 2 nephews all dressed up as FGs and RBs! =)
I’m thinking Crewcuts [Jcrew for kids!] on sale, their stuff are soo cute but definitely rewear worthy for everyday!

Look at that little vest and bowtie! That is so adorable! And the pink dress is just beautiful and perfect for a wedding. Your niece and nephew are going to be little dolls! And they’ll cherish the photos of them at their aunt’s wedding one day :)

So cute! I’m excited to look for outfits for my 8 year old niece & my 4 year old nephew. I’m worried to start too early though, because I’m not sure how big they’ll be by the time the wedding rolls around in 10 months.

Oh my gosh that little tux is just the cutest thing ever! What lucky kids to have an aunt that is putting so much thought into their outfits!!! :)

Personally, I am just about ready to burst with excitement at picking out a flower girl dress…my fg is going to be 3 1/2 years old at the time of the wedding, and I am having so much fun contemplating what she is going to wear…I’m slightly ashamed that I think I am more excited about her dress than picking out the bridesmaids’ dresses! Eeek.
