Down the Aisle

August 19th, 2009 @ 11:04 am by Mrs. Beagle

Soon after I got engaged, I knew I wanted to incorporate this song into our processional:

I love Amelie—it’s such a beautiful movie with beautiful music and if you haven’t seen it yet, you need to watch it. Right now. This song gives me chills every time I listen to it. Even though our aisle is relatively short, I’m not sure I can get 5 bridesmaids and myself down the aisle in under 3 minutes.

To solve this, I’m thinking about using this for my walk down the aisle…

maybe starting at around the 1:10 mark (so that we aren’t left waiting for the song to finish when we reach the end of the aisle), or shortening the song.

Since we are using a pianist, I am trying to find the actual scores to both pieces so that she can play them. :) Thus far, these are the only two ceremony songs I’ve tackled. (Although we will be playing Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, one of Momma Beagle’s favorite songs, perhaps for our grandparents & for FILs’ walk down the aisle).

Any suggestions for other songs we should incorporate? Is it weird that I’m incorporating two songs back to back from the same soundtrack?

I used to work with someone who loved to listen to the Amelie soundtrack as she walked to work every morning… commuting from Queens to Manhattan. She said it was like her commute had its own upbeat and magical score!

What wonderful choices, Beagle! During my search for a cake stand, I stumbled upon http://www.clarafrench.com. I’d often leave her page open in my browser just to listen to the Amelie soundtrack. :o)

Both of our processional songs came from soundtracks, too!

I think these compliment each other well so you can totally use them back to back!

Is it weird? Certainly not. I have and love that soundtrack as well and musically speaking the majority of it is one long variation on a theme. Don’t worry, they’ll mix beautifully!!!

Miss Beagle, you may have found it, but search for Yann Tiersen, Six Pieces Pour Piano, Vol. 2, which includes Comptine d’un autre ete: l’apres midi, Le moulin, la dispute, sur le fil, la valse d’amelie, and Comptine d’ete n 2. Those are all pieces from the soundtrack for piano. I have the book sitting in front of me and love it (in case you wanted to include more of his music into the ceremony).

I think it’s fine to use two songs from the same soundtrack/by the same person. =) Especially for the processional, because then it really flows.

love Amelie as well, and I think these pieces would work beautifully together! the only song I’ve thought of is the bride’s processional, which will be Fur Elise — Elise is my first name and in German it means “beautiful Elise”. thought it was fitting for me to walk down the aisle to, no? is there any song out there that has your first name, Miss Beagle? maybe you could incorporate that if it works!

I love Amelie as well. We’re including one song in our pre-ceremony playlist.

I love Amelie, good choice. Haven’t come up with ours, it’s the groom’s job. His best friend has a masters in music composition and is very accomplished at classical guitar, so it will be him playing, I just don’t know what.

What great musical choices! These are some of my FH’s favorite pieces to play on piano.

As for the sheet music, FH found illegal transcriptions of the pieces online several years ago. I have tried several times (even writing the record company in France) to procure legal copies of the sheet music, as a gift for him, but with no luck. You might see if your local music store can order them. I went that route and at first, they said they could order it, but then they ended up canceling the order because they could not get the music in.

Yay for Amelie! I walked down the ailse to Comptine D’ un Autre Ete. My brother and his friend figured out how to play it on their guitars. It was fantastic!

Those songs are beautiful! And it’s not weird that they are back to back.
